+Smity Werben Man Jensen White history month is every other month. The only history of black people that's taught is the slaves, MLK, & Rosa Parks. There's way more than that. And this helps spread the knowledge.
@anonjohn5927

Mir B um no every other month is not white history month that is ridiculous. That is also not the only thing they teach about black people. They teach a lot more than that. The only reason they teach alot more about white people anyways is because we are responsible for a large part of history, good and bad. That dosent make white people any bettter that just means that we were in the position for that to happen.
@brandipityha9457
@brandipityha9457 8 жыл бұрын
+Mir B Thats the only part the black people had to do with most of Americas history. Go to England and see if you see many black people there. Black people were not common in England and for the majority of Americas life span. So it would be kind of hard for people that wernt there to have done anything significant enough to make history books until slavery. Has nothing to do with deleting that parts of history, has to do with them not being there to do anything. Black people were not common people then, so its not possible for them to be in a mjor role of history. It requires them to be there. Once they entered history though, they did do stuff and made it in the history books. Also, black people were not the only slaves during that time so i dont understand why they are the only ones that get to say anything about slavery. My ancestors were brutally murdered, starved, worked till death quite literally and killed anyone that was sick or couldnt move because of the starvation. Ever heard of the Jews and the Nazis? But you dont see me going around expecting a specific month to commemorate that.

Kimberly Adams That's probably because some people don't like the fact that Buzzfeed is dividing people into groups and focussing on race like it's supposed to be important (and that doesn't stop racism, on the contrary, it creates generalizations and more racism).

mouwersor That's very true; I can agree with that.
@TheGroucho66

+Kimberly Adams It's because the message seems counter-intuitive. If the whole purpose of fighting racism is to teach people that humanity is composed of individuals and that the specific tone or colour of your skin is utterly irrelevant to the content of your character, your worth in society, or what you can potentially contribute, etc, then making a video that boasts about what people with black skin have done for music is equivalent to a video boasting about how great white people are at something. It utterly defeats the point. Appreciating the black people of today based on the actions of black people of the past is the same fallacious logic that racists use when they say "I hate black people. When I was young, I got beat up by some black people and so I don't trust any of them".

For those wondering - in America, Black history month is February, Asian history month is May, and Hispanic heritage month is from Sep 15th to Oct 15th (it's different here in England but that's for the US). The reason there is no "white history month" or "European history month" is because we learn about that stuff every day. Excuse the minorities for wanting just a few days of recognition out of 365/6 days, but you get the rest of the year. If you don't like it, don't watch it???
@lolasthlm859
@lolasthlm859 8 жыл бұрын
+ThisIsIona I know, some of the people here are just...yeah. Personally I don't think so much about what skin color an icon had when i read history. But this types of videos maybe makes some, in this case, "black people" feel "secure". I know that specially USA has so many society problems with this. So I think that this is good videos for americans to watch, even tho some of them can't understand.
@suussmiley

Tbh history months for a certain race are kinda weird imo it would be better to include all races in the things you hear about every day instead of one month per year, it's of course important to recognize that not only white people have done something for history but if you only recognize what black people have done for one month & during that month don't talk about what others have done it's just dividing the races, for example white people made classical music and some of the instruments used for that were used by black people so white people did have a little influence (I'm not saying black people didn't come up with these amazing genres of music but that whites had a really really little bit of influence) it's like acting as if people from different races have done everything alone like I'm sure the USA wouldn't we as wealthy as it is now without black people, they also had a big influence but that doesn't exclude white people, I do think it is good that we recognize that ...
@suussmiley
@suussmiley 8 жыл бұрын
... Black people have done a lot and have made changes in our society but I think it would be better just to discuss the influence of different races during the whole year instead of discussing one race each month because that doesn't show that they all had influence, but these videos are important to show black people that they can also change society & I do love that but I wish they would make more inclusive videos like how white people had a good influence & how black people made that good thing into something even better if you get what I mean, I'm not trying to be a crying white girl with all my privilege bc I know I am privileged & I know some people are ignorant af and I know people need to learn that this video is not negative against white people at all but if we talk about how races helped each other (I know they were also negative against each other at some points but discussion the negative things races did and blaming the people who are that race today is not useful) ...

Buzzefeed, missed all the other types of music black people have invented. Musics like: Country, Disco, Reggae, Dancehall, Techno, House, Salsa, Samba, Mambo, Soca, Calypso, Soul, etc. All the music we listen to can trace their roots to one of these genera's. It speaks volume when you can produce beautiful uplifting music in a time where they drained swimming pools after a Black person swam in it. God have mercy!

It's black history month. It's time to acknowledge the things black people have given the world. They overcame slavery and segregation, yet they have so much more to overcome. Despite everything they've been through, they've contributed so much to the world. Let's celebrate that. Let's celebrate their strength. That's what Black History Month is about. Celebrating a group of people who faced so much and then did much more. Stop your complaining and celebrate. We don't need a white history month or a video saying what white people have put forth. We're the ones they talk about most in our history books. We're celebrating the history of people we don't know much about. Deal with it.

Maybe you love Cardi B, ok, but recorded music was also created by "white nerds" Maybe your grandma loves to watch how Trump and Obama roasting each other like high school girls,ok, TV was also created by white man, coloured TV was created by Hovhannes Adamyan Armenian-American inventor and scientist. Airplane was also created by us, printing press and telescope too. So you all better stop acting like fool.

As an ethnomusicologist and dance ethnologist I say thank you for producing this video. I am of Italian descent born here in California. There are a lot of musical genres you guys left out that would never have been possible without the greater African Diaspora. Such as Nigerian and Congolese slaves developing Rumba, Salsa, Son in Cuba. Angolan and other Bantu ethnic groups developing Samba and Capoeira in Brazil. Basically anything that is popular and played in clubs at some point had a strong African influence. But instead of focusing on the differences. It would be nice to see the next video perhaps produced that would encompass all the Americas. Moreover, acknowledging the synchronization among European, African and where applicable, Asian and Native American groups in regards to musical expressions here in the USA and America's.

Why are black people so good at music. I’m Latin American and many of our dances and music have some African roots. Merengue, bachata and salsa. Only if the world could love black people as much as they enjoy their cultural music and dances. Then their be less racism internationally. Latin America’s also has a race problem, one of colorism. It’s something I’m very ashamed as a Latin American.

Once again, the opportunity to recognize and celebrate the too-often neglected contributions and accomplishments of Black Americans in every endeavor throughout our history is what Black History Month is about. White history is a standard. It's embedded, ingrained and imbued into us and our nation's educational curriculum beginning in elementary school. It's a common misconception that the celebration and inclusion of black history is the negation and dismissal of everyone else's.
