Taylor Swift and Bob Dylan are among the stars featured in recent sales of back catalogues, and the rise of streaming services has some analysts predicting a doubling of revenue from music assets by 2030. But risks abound, from overpaying, to the threat of rising interest rates, not to mention if a songwriter doesn’t gel with their private equity overlords.

fun fact: it takes 250,000 streams for a song to make $1,000. depending on the deal, the artist has to break off more than half of that for management, publishing, the label, recoupables, and any other misc. expense... leaving them with __?__ (not much).

The uk has been bullied by the american music scene for decades, i say the uk boycotts it and makes it own big labels, 90 percent of music on british radio is american crap.

Excellent video and good overview of the topic. It would be interesting to make a follow up exploring the moral / ethical side of the topic and look at how this affects the artists and others working in making music. Talyor's move was brilliant, I hope her friends stick to her.

Hmmm. Quick question: Out of how many people who aspire to make money creating music, how many are actually successful at it? 0.0001%? Or, is that too generous?
