This video is incredibly genius. Not only is he incredibly funny, but at the same time he's breaking down something that is daunting for anyone to learn in a very simple way. This is basically a tl;dr of music theory that anyone can digest and figure out. Bravo Chris.

I saw this for the first time about 3 years ago maybe even more. I didn’t understand any music theory, rewatching it now and understanding everything and more is really motivating. This really helped me go from vocalists (been at it about all my life but did it from ear) to a songwriter who writes with understanding . Oney is awesome I love this man

Something that should be cleared up is that at 8:57, he's actually demonstrating the harmonic minor scale, not the natural minor scale you may be more familiar with
@lwhittenIII Жыл бұрын
I know I'm late but hear me out for any future musicians, nelson is right but to be more specific, in Oneys demonstration of a C minor scale he should've played at Bb rather than B, B making it the harmonic minor scale😅
@lazyskull79495 жыл бұрын
Scale patterns goes as follows. This is for every key, no matter if black/white. but first two terms you need to know. whole-tone (W): up 2 semitones. semi-tone (S): up 1 semitone. Major Scale: WWSWWWS Minor Scale: WSWWSWW this is the easiest way to find scales.

I mean a better explanation would be that since we decide on a 12 equally tuned note system and we used a-g for some reason to represent most of those notes instead of like a-l or even a-f it leaves weird spaces in the name for literally no reason and it’s way too late to fix it now

Yo that was a C harmonic minor, and it was too edgy when it was created, so they made the melodic minor which goes up with a major 6th and 7th and goes down with a minor 6th and 7th. It means that, after the 3rd note, it looks exactly like the major scale and when it goes down, it looks exactly like the minor scale. THE MORE YOU KNOW

Did he do the c minor scale wrong?
@shaperr61127 жыл бұрын
Well...not exactly. That was still a C Minor scale, but what he played was a "C harmonic minor" scale. In the context of what he was explaining, he should have probably played a C minor melodic scale, or a C natural minor scale, but either way, it was still technically right.
@Froboy11006 жыл бұрын
Actually the correct cminor scale, is without the flat 7. You'll learn that in order to keep the progression of the harmonics you must raise the 7th. Otherwise you'll get dominants with flat 3rds and dominants are supposed to be major.
