Hey Jack, I live in a completely different part of the world (Wisconsin, USA) but I'm also a music video director, and it was really refreshing hearing you talk about the craft. The part about properly absorbing the song and finding how to complement it with what you want to bring as a director, is something I fully subscribe to. It truly is one of the most "collaborating" forms that filmmaking can take. Also referencing movies and doing "other-wordly" stuff is easier or more embraced in the music video medium, there's a lot to play with as a director. Really happy to see you exercising more directors' muscles. Shows that you're truly in tune with all aspects of filmmaking. Cheers, man. x

Loved this video! I initially listened to Leadley's song then watched the video but heard the song for the first time when watching the Glass Caves' video and it did change the meaning for me. With Love Me Like that, just on one listen it was really easy to not hear the slight bitter sweet style of the song and it really clicked when I saw the video. With Who are you, I feel now listening back I really feel that sense of turmoil - the scene where he stares into the mirror particularly sticks out (also the crack from the edge of each mirror running down his face really added to that). Just thought it was really cool how a visual to accompany a song can enhance the message of the song and have a lasting effect on a piece of music even when just having the audio.

I’m gonna have to make a music video for college at some point this year (covid-permitting) so this video is super helpful! The main issue I feel like I’m gonna have is the fact that I’m so bad at picking up on the meanings and subtleties of songs in comparisons to films. Like I’ll happily analyse every single frame of The Shining but when it comes to music, my train of thought is just ‘that sounds good. lemme listen to it on repeat for a month.’ Hopefully it’ll all work out! I’m sure I’ll be coming back to this video a lot! Congrats on all the recent projects man.
@JackHoward4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Callum. My advice (even tho you haven’t asked for it) is to focus on the emotion. What’s the music making you feel? What’s it reminding you of? Who Are You reminded me of times when I’ve been so low but been able to pick myself back up with the help of good friends. I told that story but made it about a boxer and a trainer.
@callumread59734 жыл бұрын
JackHoward Oh the advice is most definitely welcome man, thanks! And yeah I’m sure if I pick a song I really love it’ll all fall into place. I may end up working with a local band that I’m friends with (Cage Park if you wanna check them out on streaming) so in that case they’ll be able to give me insight on what the song means and then hopefully I can translate that into my own interpretation.

I love seeing the psychology seeping through each of the stories you're telling, and as a psychology student, I couldn't help myself and I had to overanalyze certain aspects of the music video (for example, the friends in the Ledley video, could they be a representation of the ego/ID/superego? or am I reading too much into this?) Anyways, I love the stuff that you're doing and I hope to see more projects from you in the future.

@LuchM4 жыл бұрын
@@JackHoward Fair enough. Obviously there is still plenty to take away from your video. Primarily, having the music lead the visuals, whether it is the explicit glitch cutting in 'Love me like that', or the implicit use of a "manly" wrestling ring for "unmanly" dancing in 'Who are you?' (creating a juxtaposition which, imo, represents the final acceptance of oneself past one's own insecurities of not being "man enough", tying into the moral concept of the song)... I'm starting to see why you said that this might seem self indulgent, lol By the way, it's lovely thinking about how you were up past 4am talking to me 😊
