I went to a Snoop show and he showed up like 4 hours late and handed out a “collection plate” for weed in the crowd. Then he smoked all the weed; did some weird dancing, occasionally said some lyrics, mostly let the crowd sing his songs, then left. I felt ripped off and satisfied at the same time.

Always disliked Blink 182 since they got on the radar. BUT Travis is a such a solid drummer and became quite influential. I like to watch his stuff on drum channels, but blink I just can't. The pop punk vocal style is what pushes me away from this kind of music. I've given it a try so many times over the decades, and as much as I can appreciate good lyrics and good playing, can't do more than a couple of songs every now and then.

What’s baffling is that it hasn’t always been this bad. I’ve seen Drake three times (please don’t judge) and he’s gotten progressively worse each time. Not planning on seeing him again, but there used to actually be reason to go to his shows. 2014 was a joint tour with Lil Wayne, he actually did rap/perform most of the songs and put on an overall great show. It also helped that this when his discography was at its best and the songs performed were almost all from Take Care or Nothing Was the Same. 2016 joint tour with Future, same deal with maybe a little more reliance on the crowd. 2019 with Migos was the last straw, it’s the style you see today; jarring to watch and just flat out bad. Not to mention Migos were bad as well but his performances took a massive nosedive around 2017-2019 and it’s gotten even worse since to the point where he now just doesn’t perform at all and just jumps around/lets the crowd sing everything.

My wife really wanted to see Weezer live 3 years ago, and since (my fave band ever) Pixies opened, I was good with it. Hands down, the Pixies set was the worst example of stage presence I’ve ever seen. Black Francis was bored the whole time, and we all sat down half way through the show as the boredom spread to us. PS. Weezer blew me away. Definitely better in concert than recorded.

Frank Black and The Catholics in the 1990s was the best concert I've ever seen, out of 100s of shows. I saw them 3 times. Frank did the Bowery Ballroom in Brooklyn and the stage presence was unbelievable. He used timing to create suspense. He doesn't dance, and he speaks sparingly, but he and the band rocked the house like no other. He gave each song his all, sweating profusely while belting out banger after banger.

Quite ironically, “Weird Al” Yankovic (a PARODY artist) puts on awesome concerts and has a stage presence that rivals that of anyone else. Al’s vocals are always right on point, and his backing band (which has been together for 40+ years, with the exception of his keyboardist Ruben, the “new guy” who joined in the early 90’s) can master any genre from Gangsta Rap to Polka. Al is currently on tour with a scaled-back version of his show for his hardcore fans, but normally his concerts are big multimedia experiences, with at least a dozen costume changes, special effects, and big screens on the stage. So next time Weird Al is in your area, do yourself a favor and see him!

I always figure that rap concerts are usually going to be worse live. There just isn’t anyway they will be able to replicate their music in a live setting as well as the studio. Rapping is also lyrically “heavy”, so it is probably just difficult. Instrumentalists, on the other hand, have the advantage of being able to improvise and make their live music even better than the album.

Have to agree with the 30STM placement here. I seen them live last year and while Jared is a fantastic singer, he kept breaking up the songs to speak to the crowd and make them do stupid stuff. Callum Donovan he’s actually been doing that bit for over a decade. They mostly played the new album, and almost every song they sang was a sing-a-long and the performance was filled with crowd pandering. I enjoyed the vocals on some of their This is War material, but that small pleasure wasn't a thing live because Jared basically refused to hit those notes and found excuses to do other things instead. In fact, I don't believe they played a lot of material from their previous albums.

The best live band was the legendary Canadian Band Rush. I have seen every legendary classic rock groups in concert, but no one ever put on a better show and sounded the most like their studio recording than Rush. I saw them 32 times and would still never miss a tour if they hadn’t retired and Neil Peart, the best rock drummer of all time, die (RIP). The fact that their music was far more ambitious to play than the average group, each musician playing multiple instruments at the same time, makes them that much better and more amazing to watch. Often called the world’s smallest orchestra since it was only three guys who sound fuller than most six piece bands. Unfortunately, any young fans, just discovering Rush on KZbin, will never get the awesome experience of seeing those guys live. Even many other talented musicians from famous bands are fans of Rush and all of them say they were the hardest working band in the world. Love them or hate them, no other band cared more for their fans and worked harder to put on the best shows possible.

It was obvious how hard those three guys worked once you saw them live. Their music was far more challenging than any other band, yet they always performed it to near perfection. She had absolutely no stage presence whatsoever. At one point she tried to tell a joke and it died on the vine. So her comment to the audience was, "I guess I'll sing another hit song." I would have gotten more enjoyment just staring at one of her album covers while listening to the album. By contrast one of the best concerts I ever saw was The Charlie Daniels Band. I saw Merle Haggard many years ago and he literally sleep walked through the entire show. Phoned the performance in. I took my parents who were fans and felt disappointed they did not see a better show. I thought the Beach Boys of the last 10 or so years were really relying on younger musicians in the band to handle leads. Mike Love still sings and gives it his all but he is near 80 now and delegates numerous leads to his bandmates. I have to say the band Sparks who are in their 70's kick ass and sing incredibly and move around the stage like they are in their 40's. Randy Bachman of BTO sounds great and his vocals sound like he was 30 years old when he is in his mid 70's.

I saw Blink-182 for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I was skeptical leading up to the concert because, yes, the videos I had seen of their live performances were not good, and I had seen a lot. However, I can tell you that actually being there was completely different; they sounded awesome. Maybe I was lucky to be there on a night when Mark didn't phone it in, as he allegedly does some times. But curiously even in the videos I took myself of the performance they don't sound great. I guess you really just have to be there to appreciate it.

The energy of the crowd has always been way more captivating than the talent being showcased on stage at a Blink concert. It's been that way since at least 1996 that I can remember. They have always been the world's favorite bad band yet the crowd is always pumping at their concerts. Maybe it's the pounding drumming that gets the crowd going because Blink has always had great aggressive drumming.

Puddle of Mudd no doubt my worst show... Wes got out of jail hours before the show. Was drunk sitting on a stool, and also went in a rant for minutes about women having s*x with dogs. Flipped him the bird and split. Told myself I'd never support him again, but he appears clean, and their lastest tune is awesome. Fingers crossed for good things to continue

You, my friend, just earned yourself another subscriber! Spot on picks here. Granted, I’m a Gen X’er, so I was never a fan of most of these “artists” in any setting. But this is a huge part of the reason why. The lack of talent is hard to disguise when you’re live. I’m a huge 90’s hip hop fan, but always thought that it wasn’t suited for live performance. It best enjoyed in a club, or ideally, in a vehicle with a high end audio system.

Never had the misfortune of seeing a truly bad act, so instead I’m going to nominate the opposite: Lindsey Buckingham has been rocking on the biggest stages of the world for almost 50 years now. When he was still with Fleetwood Mac, even when they were getting on a bit, he was the only guy who didn’t take a short break and stayed on stage the whole time. He was the heart and sould of that band when it played live, as was evidenced when they toured without him in 2019 and Campbell & Finn couldn’t come close to him.

Bob Dylan is the worst concert I’ve been too, but I guess it’s not really fair to put him on this list because it’s been very long since his prime. But I literally didn’t know what song he was playing the entire time and he has no stage presence. Other disappointing concerts: Lana Del Rey Clairo Logic Post Malone Cardi B Iggy Azalea (A lot of these were at festivals and not individual concerts)

Probably the best band I’ve ever seen live was Low. For a band that takes the term slowcore to a whole other level, they were as dead on as they could have been. It sounded like I was listening to the album. Ten Foot Pole and Less Than Jake always put on a killer show. Especially LTJ, they bring every bit of energy from their albums into their live performances. Teenage Bottlerocket, The Queers, Masked Intruder.... all pretty good shows. Dada were great live, the 4 or 5 times I saw them. Depeche Mode were fantastic, as were the Pet Shop Boys. Most recently I saw Ryan Young from Off With Their Heads play a small acoustic show, and it was amazing. Oh, and I did have the pleasure of seeing Osker back in the day. Fortunately I’ve seen way more shows that were good than that were awful.

When I saw Paramore last year, the first opener was honestly really boring live: Jay Som. Like, no stage presence at all, and you could hardly hear the vocals. Just put the whole crowd to sleep.
