Tavlin's musical journey began in his mother's kitchen. From banging pots and pans to playing the tabla like a ninja, his musical career has crossed many cultures.
Talvin Singh OBE was born in London in the early 1970s. His upbringing in a vibrant and multicultural city and the sacred heritage of Indian classical and folk music have continued to inform his award-winning music.

Just got back from a Talvin Singh gig, with tabla and a reverb consisting of a speaker and microphone in an airfield hangar a couple of hundred metres away. I cam home feeling refreshed by the pure sound of the tabla and the simplicity of an acoustic performance with the particular reverb system, I feel inspired to make sounds without too much sophistication but exquisite sounds.

Just mesmerising! I discovered Talvin Singh's music when I was 14 and got my hands on a student tabla set. Here I am at the age of 27 and I've been playing ever since, everyday for at least 4 hours. I play fusion tabla mashed up with western vibes but someday soon I'll produce my own beats.

If you have not listened to the album, 'OK', by Talvin Singh before, you are doing yourself an incredible disservice, this album was not only recorded all over the world in multiple studios and on remote locations, it also won the Mercury music award, I was in high school when it was released and I waited outside of a Blockbuster Music to get a copy of it the day it was released, one of the most creative and imaginative albums ever to come out of the 1990's in electronic music, if you haven't heard it before, please check it out, the entire album in its entirety is also available to be streamed for free here on KZbin.

thats a western innovation of the Sitar and to be honest the Guitar is not even in the same league as the Sitar. Nor the Piano in the same league as the Harmonium, neither is the violin in the same league as the Sarangi.
