As far as i can tell it's actually 5/4. Listen to the high hat pattern. Its a 4/4 high hat pattern that resolves every 2 bars. Atleast as far as i can tell. I don't watch a lot of music videos, so while the complexity and sound of the songs are important, I'm often more focused on the lyrics. If you read the official lyrics from the album, there is an alternate lyric posted when he's talking about how the new guy doesn't scare him. "The mighty flee (flea?)" Knowing this helps tie the next few lines in and connect them to his previous lines, pointing out that he's more frightened than he implied, and with good reason. 😂

About what you said on Sting's use of space in his songs. Sting recounted that he went to see Chick Corea's acoustic band and that bass player John Pattitucci was playing these lightning fast runs on his fiddle bass and afterwards walked up to Sting. And said "You've been such a big influence on me with all the spaces you leave" at which Sting said that he truly couldn't tell. I guess the best example of Sting leaving space in his music is The Police' "the bed's too big without you" which if you come around to reacting to that one, I'd urge you to seek out the live version.

The sound feels simple but the music is so complex. The musicians Sting uses are so talented and he surrounds himself with so many incredible people who help bring to life these sounds Sting loves to play around with. Sting released an album prior to this called the SOUL CAGES, which was a concept album that was a lot moodier and depressed that dealt with the loss of both of his parents in the late 80's. Sting had writer's block for a few years but found a way to channel his emotions in that album as a means of dealing with the loss. In 1993 he released TEN SUMMONER'S TALES (Sting's real name is Gordon Sumner) and this album was much more uplifting. It dealt with love & morality and he found light out of the darkness of his previous album. You can hear it in this song and many others on this album. "If I ever lose my faith in you" was the biggest hit from the album but solid songs like, "Shape of My Heart", "She's Too Good For me" and "Fields of Gold" are excellent.
