I have loved 'This is what you are' since the day I first heard it around 2019. I remember blasting it at the gym on repeat. At the time, my dad was very sick, and somehow it was this cathartic experience that allowed me to release the sadness I felt back into the world. In a way, I woke up. In a way, this is what you are, helped me to start the grieving process. The song being one of the most human songs I have ever heard in my decade long career studying music. So, to finally experience it, as it was intended, in game, was such an exciting experience - often times moments like these are sort of lost through time, "oh it changes everything etc" people say these things but rarely do they truly mean something to the person experiencing it for themselves - sometimes comments like that even ruin the experiences, so I was definitely a bit nervous going into this stream. Well, holy shit. Needless to say.

@@Capitan_Captain I'd look at the story as something divided into acts rather than "the tutorial ends when you unlock all the features", otherwise we'd have to push when it happens after every gameplay update. The Railjack? Yeah, you gotta have that before you end the tutorial. The Necramech? Yeah, that too. The Drifter and Tennokai? You know it. How many weeks of farming would the "end of the tutorial" take?

I absolutely love how protective of this plot point veteran players are to new players. I played Warframe off and on from 2014 to now, only last year did I experience this, what i now consider to be the greatest narrative moment in all my years of gaming. This elevated Warframe from a simple looter shooter with moblie gaming design to something truly special My friends have all experienced this and more but never once did they spoil this for me, always saying "you just gotta play more" or "yeah, but there's more" but they never said WHAT. And now I'm so thankful for that. i need to get back into Warframe to experience War Within, but I've been distracted. I think it's time to stop being distracted...

this was my comment. played this for years then this dropped. was absolutely unbelievable. it is one thing if you come into the game now lucky enought o have literally zero spoilers but having building for years up in ur mind ur basically just a space ninja robot to have this deep of shit dropped on u. it would be like the starwars universe started as 5 seasons of luke on the farm and bartering with jawa's and then only after you have invested years into this character as a poor farm boy on some desert planet then comes all the jedi shit after that. sure star wars is great but imagine if you already had that built up before hand. its really hard to describe the feeling this had on me. its not just great story telling it is something different when you had this background in the game long before the story ever existed.

Marco's reaction at 06:30 is what keeps veterans of this game bringing new players in. I've told three of my closest friends "Just play through until Second Dream--if it doesn't get you by then, you are free to uninstall." I watched my best friend of nearly 15 years melt in his chair on camera at 3:00AM, when we reached this point. When he recovered, I simply said "Thank you" and disconnected from the Discord call. This story has so many moments, many which are especially meaningful to myself and my best friend--we both studied East Asian Culture at university--the Tenno ways are a parallel to Wu Xing, as I'm sure many others have already said, but Second Dream is only the first step on the greater journey on offer here. Thank you for sharing your story. Welcome to the rest of Warframe, Marco. See you on the battlefield, Tenno.

As a new player myself, I got to Saturn and did only a few of the early quests on my playstation account, found it difficult solo and only came back when fortuna was released (which I found out only recently should've been played much later) Then started on my pc account back in 2020 and got to saturn again, and couldn't get into it. Many times did a veteran of the game tell me time and time again to atleast get to Uranus because that's where the quests start getting really good, I was getting burnt out and had to leave it there. I came back after getting heavily burnt out of another game and decided to pick up where I left off, found some new veterans of the game to help me with builds and such, and then I also collapsed after playing this mission, war within aswell. I stopped the grind at the worst time twice and couldn't believe it.

"Dream not of what you are, but of what you want to be" - without exaggeration, i'm crying every time i'm experiencing The Second Dream through the lens of someone else's first playthrough. It's so powerful, it hits like a truck and then proceeds to carry you through the highway of time. And the story just keeps giving after that, it doesn't stop. I wish someone did a life-action, or at least an animated short out of the stories from this game. It wouldn't hit nearly as hard as after playing the game yourself, of course, but it would still be glorious.

Lotus flowers, from something ugly comes something new and beautiful. A metaphor to truly embrace the warframe story from the early and rough start of this game a decade ago to it blooming today and being a brilliantly profound, exceptionally emotional. This song is SO fucking important to me, and the fact that that instrumental plays EVERY TIME you go back there always feels special. There's always some purpose to it even when you're just going in to look at the room, I would sometimes go in there just to hear he song and it would just envelop me entirely. It's such a special song. As for the song itself, in the vocal version I always like to note the lone woman's voice echoed in this call-and-response by a chorus of children. They never sing at the same time as her, they're separated from her but they hear her. It's like you said, the Tenno, sequestered in these pods, all alone but connected. She calls out to them at the start of the game when she wakes you from your slumber, and then when this quest happens, the Tenno can finally call back. It's so special.

When Marco started playing Warframe, I hoped that he would stay with it to play the quests. Digital Extremes made something truly special. I'm beyond delighted to see another Tenno take that emotional journey that so many of us already have. For a free-to-play looter shooter, The Second Dream took Warframe to a height that few others have been able to barely touch. Does hearing the "This is what you are" motif make me tear up? It's been so long since I seen this moment. This was such a massive deal in 2015 that it still hits me hard in the feels when I see it. I started Warframe back in 2013 just after the card mod system was implanted and quickly played 100 hours and bought into the game with a founders pack. Warframe back then was pretty straight forward with so much mystery in the setting, we always wanted to know more, speculated about what the warframes were, what the tenno are, who the lotus is, and then after two years... This... this incredible story mission dropped. It really cemented that warframe wasn't just your average live service grind-a-thon, it had a heart, and it wanted to show it to you. Even with all the faults the game has, there is these incredible moments burred deep within it, underneath all the game systems and side modes. Even though I don't to play it much anymore, the experiences i had with it was well worth the $150 I paid to it back in 2013, happy in knowing I helped DE keep the lights on so they can give us these fantastic moments.

12:20 It's amazing to hear you commentate on the music I've loved for years. I was there when the Second Dream quest first released, sitting in voice chat playing through that pivotal moment with friends, being amazed at how incredible Warframe's first "cinematic quest" was, and laughing at all the bugs Warframe has right after a new update. I imagined that the music in the transference room was special because of the memories and how amazing that quest was back in 2015. It was such a huge turning point for Warframe, all wrapped up in an important time period in my life. But this song is special for more than just my own experience. It's amazing hearing you explain how meaningful the song was to you, in a completely different time and place in your life. It makes me feel like there's real value in the entertainment we enjoy the most. I find so many people who dismiss the meaning and power of video games, or even of art in general. I've been struggling with disappointment and a feeling of isolation because I've had a hard time finding people, especially men, who can express themselves and enjoy the finer points of incredible art. So many people either don't care or refuse to accept how profound and meaningful entertainment can be. It's refreshing and profound to hear someone else who understands and appreciates the meaning and power behind art. It feels calming to know someone else sees and appreciates the same things I do. I love your reaction at 6:25, when you finally realize what the game just did. I've helped dozens of people get past the early game of Warframe, and experience that same moment of realization. Paraphrasing the words of SkillUp, It's an incredible masterstroke scored with one of the most powerful pieces of video game music ever. One of the best questing experience ever. Here's an amazing bug, that was still in the game the last time I played: Go into the transference room and let the music start. Then open up the menu and select arsenal or navigation. The music will play in your entire ship until you select a mission or walk back through the music trigger in the transference room door. If I'm tweaking my loadout, I'll use that "bug" to enjoy this music when I'm messing around in the orbiter.

Players like me were casually farming missions for actual literal YEARS without a care in the world, with all the previous lore acting more as set dressing than a cohesive story. With The Second Dream, DE literally changed the game. From this moment forward, people expected more out of Warframe, with answers to questions we didn't even know we had bubbling up from deep below the game we all assumed was so simplistic. This is the moment that turned Warframe from a fun space shooter to something worth taking seriously as a piece of dramatic storytelling, as well as the first step to creating one of the most interesting combat systems games have to offer.

What other game can just hit you with a character creation screen dozens or even hundreds hours in, right? I remember just playing this game for the grind and art style and then BOOM suddenly there is a story. Playing through these quests as they came out was such an experience. I mean, it still is, but nowadays i expect my mind to be blown away.

So glad you had a great experience with this, and didn't really get spoiled, and made it far enough into the game, since it can definitly be rough around the edges at times. I was also happy to see such a nice cut version of the VOD, so I didn't have to find the most impactful moments myself, as I only rarely watch full streams.

Making the connection of the life breathing notes in the song to taking pain away and your words about your father, is such a profoundly aware link to the plot of The Sacrifice and what the Tenno do for the Warframe's tortured mind. You've completed TS by the time I made this comment so you also know its plot but that was surprising to hear from someone; to make such a connection before seeing the story.

This was the moment that turned Warframe from a fun game into one of my top 5 favorite games - single handedly. When that character creation screen popped in with the music after all that prior buildup, there's no going back from that moment. I think we all Tenno pretty much had the same experience you had. It'll forever be my favorite moment in gaming.

I played The Second Dream when it was first released. The great thing about it there were no teasers or leaks of what the contents of the second dream were. Before the second dream, the game was no more interesting than a few Left 4 Dead missions. So when this character creation screen came and this amazing piece by Keith Power, it was truly mindblowing. Dialogue choices, character creation, and your RPG tree felt like a whole new dimension added to the game. I'm glad to say the game will have more of these epic moments, though the second dream is hard to beat. I think the music really sells the moment, not sure if Warframe would be as great without Keith Power, as Star Citizen is without Pedro Camacho.

Thank you Marco for playing Warframe. I'm a long time fan of the game, I've been playing since even before the second dream update. I was around 15 years old when the Tenno reveal happened. Just like you, I get very emotional whenever I listen to this theme. Thank you for giving me a second chance to relive the experience through your eyes, it's like sharing something you care about with a friend who's actually on your same wavelength 💜

I've always felt that the song shows the taps into the spiritual but also kind of collapses it. To me, it says that I don't really need to worry about all that--I am this; whatever masks I may wear, I am some definite entity and the song recognizes that without demanding that I learn to drop the mask. It is an unconditional affirmation of identity. When I hear it, I feel similarly inspired. Same goes for the "Dream" line from the first cutscene. Thinking about them helps me to focus on what I'm doing rather than worrying about what people are thinking of me. I know who I am; I know who I want to be.

The story of this game hits so hard for those who played this game over the years. This is not only about the character inside of the game but also about the player. You are tenno, you wield the power of warframe just like the operator. The game itself is your second dream.
