The Barcelona album is one of Freddie's greatest achievements. There's not a bad track on the entire record. If you look at interviews with either Freddie or Montserrat, they held each other in the highest regard. Montserrat had only beautiful memories and stories of Freddie until her death. A real powerhouse duo... I wish they had been able to record a second album together.

So glad they got to sing together, what a magical performance! Who would have thought it - an opera star and a rock singer making music together. All the songs they did together on the Barcelona album are just sublime and the love and respect they had for one another is just beautiful to see. And thank you for your reaction, I can tell you were blown away by this amazing duo. Love the way you can pick out sounds and special vocals I would probably miss except for the "jack it backs"!

And some people like to argue when Queen fans say Freddie Mercury is the greatest rock vocalist of all time. We aren't just saying it bc were Queen fans. He really was bc he could literally sing anything. I wonder what Freddie and Aretha would have come up with.

Just wanted to say how much I love your reviews, mate. As a diehard Queen fan I have heard and watched it all and now find enjoyment watching others react to the band. I watch most of the Queen reaction videos on here and I have to say I find yours to be my favourite because I think you are genuine and honest and wear your heart on your sleeve (some reviewers just go through the motions and don't really feel the music, but you get right into it). As a lifelong Queen fan, it warms my heart to see someone like yourself show such respect and love towards the band and especially towards dear Freddie (one of the most beautiful and original souls to ever grace this planet) - I think he would adore your enthusiasm and your genuine emotions to his (and Queen's) music. Take care and all the best to you.

When someone asked Montserrat what she experienced singing with Freddie, she said "freedom". Traditional opera has such constraints which she was used to. Peter Straker, Freddie's friend, was one of the backup singers and John Deacon played in the orchestra.

What a wonderful reaction👏Your enthusiasm is palpable!! If you'd like to hear Montse in her own element, I *HIGHLY* recommend her singing Casta Diva at Orange in 1974, from the opera Norma. It was an open air production, that took place during a windstorm, and rather than hinder, it adds this other worldly effect. And Montserrat's voice... you will melt🥴👌

Yay!! So glad you did it! I was one of the many people asking for The Golden Boy. Musical perfection and yes a musical overdose. Freddie said when he first heard Montserrat he had just heard the best voice in the world. He wrote Barcelona and she asked him to do more, saying how many songs does a rock n roll album have. He said about 10 and her reply was we'll do 10 then! They thought the world of each other and it shows. Will try to find out who those backing singers were for you. Freddies natural baritone voice is amazing. What a range. What a man. What a reaction! Mwah! Edit: Madeline Bell - backing vocals. Debbie Bishop - backing vocals. Lance Ellington - backing vocals. Miriam Stockley - backing vocals. Also Peter Straker his long time friend. Madeline Bell one time singer with Blue Mink.

I'm Going Slightly Mad is a Queen song/MV... It's one of my FAVS, for Freddie's baritone/the style of the whole song.... You and I have the same taste, so I KNOW you will LOVE it... A 26 min reaction??? wasn't thrilled seeing that. Then there we were -- me wrapped up in that fabulous production with your commentary and here I remain....going thru it AGAIN; loving your appreciation, Montserrat and Freddie, the music - totally mesmerising! Of course it's not at all new to me...in fact, the Barcelona album, for a long time, a stone cold favourite of mine, now more so. Thanks, Thanks, Thanks. Freddie (Mike Moran too)may have picked the folks to giving us those spectacular back-up voices. Freddie has Queen's bass player, John Deacon playing Bass on "How Can I Go On" also Roger Taylor's son, Rufus on drums...not on this tho....Backing vocals on this are Madeline Bell, Debbie Bishop, Lance Ellington, Mariam Stockley, Peter Straker, Mark Williamson, and Carol Woods...(from their names off the CD insert.).

The Golden Boy is my favorite song off the Barcelona album!! Freddie & Montsy were great musical friends. They adored each other! Fun fact: Montsy loaned Freddie her gown & tiara from the Phantom Of The Opera so he could display it in Garden Lodge (glass case). Later, Montsy needed to use her gown & tiara for a show so Freddie made her promise to return them. Sadly, she never had the chance to do so! 🥺

@Debra Moore, the gown and tiara were from Lucrezia Borgia - the opera that turned her into the definition of an overnight sensation across the (operatic) world. Hence the poignancy of Freddie wanting them. 🙂

I don't know the soloists from the backing chorus, sorry. Also, I think it's worth pointing out the incredible difficulty of doing the sort of "recitative" that Freddie did at the beginning and end - the control needed is crazy.

Don’t apologize for stopping and pausing. I love you pointing out all the little vocal and instrumental nuances that you hear. Your reaction to this was superb, the more excited you got the more I enjoyed Freddie and Montserrat’s performance. Awesome reaction! It you want to see Freddie do a more operatic style check out Ensueno - Freddie & Montserrat. Freddie is not a baritone, all new male opera singers usually start at baritone because it is in the middle range. Freddie could sing a few low notes, but he very rarely sang low notes, and he mostly sang in full chest voice. He could sing a few low notes well, because he was a heavy voiced tenor, a Spinto tenor. Spinto tenors and heavy voiced tenors can sing a few low notes well, because they have a lot of lower frequencies in their voices, they are often mistaken for baritones, it even often happens in opera. When you sing with an opera style your voice sounds much darker, even the lightest tenors in opera sounds far darker then contemporary singers, Freddie was going for a more operatic sound at the start, he is not singing that low only around Bb2. Heldentenors can be expected to sing as low as A2. Montserrat was known for pianissimo, she had a great skill to sing high notes with incredible softness, I suggest you check out O Mio Babbino Caro. Listen to an opera Spinto tenor, and hear how dark and heavy their voices sound, E Lucevan Le Stelle - Franco Corelli. A lot of people see opera as boring and soulless or over dramatic, but good opera singers sound amazing and they do sing with a lot of emotion as well, they have to, it is one of the most important aspects of a great opera performance. Opera singers that are not that great might appear somewhat boring, but even the not so great opera singers are still usually good singers because they have to be.

Montserrat had (she was, she still is and she will always be The Goddes among the opera singers) a most beautiful soprano in my opinion, and the gospel part is so amazing, the goosebumps, you're right. And "How can I Go On" is another masterpiece, please, be so kind and make a reaction to it? Also, there's record of Montserrat singing "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again", it's a part of A.L. Webber musical "The Phantom Of The Opera", Freddie loved it, so Montserrat recorded this piece for him. I always believe the lyrics are Freddie..he is The Golden Boy. Yes, they had a deep respect for each other that's true. 💯... you should perhaps listen to Le Japonaise.. a lot sung in Japanese. Their whole collaboration was just beautiful. The guy with the 3 guys, the backing singers, standing to the right, is Freddie's long time friend Peter Straker, another great singer. Freddie helped produce an album for Peter, Freddie was also in awe of Peter's singing. Also, John Deacon did the bass to this song!!... In an interview with Freddie he said he loved music and (Montserrat) "she is the music". He couldn't believe she wanted to work with him. Also, Montserrat spoke highly and lovingly of Freddie, she said that one day she went to pick up a glass of champagne and he quickly stopped her because it was his, and she went to kiss him like they had always done, but that time Freddie said No, no more, and she said asked him had she upset him? Then she said he told her he couldn't anymore and why. Due to his recently found out diagnosis of HIV. She was also at the unveiling of his statue in Montreux. Unfortunately Montserrat has gone to now..hopefully they are singing together again wherever they are!. I truly believe had Freddie still been here, he would have done work for Productions and films. As well as his own and with Queen.

Listen to Exercises in Free Love. It’s Freddie singing a soprano part which he sent to Montsy. The song ended up being Ensueño. It’s outstanding. Listen to both please.

The skill of both is amazing. The opening solo part by Freddie could be very difficult for less skilled singers, so many changes in tones. She is renowned for her special skill of gently putting out those high notes so they gently float in the air; I understand it is much more difficult to do than just belting them out. Note her smiling frequently - she is having great fun with this song and loving working with Freddie (as is he with her)!!!

The great lyricist Sir Tim Rice wrote this song, this is somewhat biographical about Freddie and Mary Austin. If you read the lyrics (and I have) it very much depicts Freddie and Mary's relationship. Freddie is The Golden boy.

It does and doesn't. Mary and Freddie loved each other and you could say he loved the calmness and lotalty she btoughtto his life and she loved his passion for life. But the story of the song is that she was using him but ended up loving him had started hard hearted but ended up hurt. He loved her but changed

Great reaction. I like that you pause & listen again, that's what I used to do whenever I'd buy a new record - trying to get the whole feeling. Then I'd play it through afterwards. Anyway, your channel is to react & you do it well! Keep it up.

- by the way - - Freddie wrote the songs on the album - Mike Moran the orchestration on Barcelona - you can see him conducting. I didn't see any conductor here - but I guess that he has done it here as well.

Freddie composed this with mike He struggled with his solo album I think he needed someone that was on the same page as him to bounce ideas off and get feedback from I think he was too alone with the solo also helps to keep you motivated and on track It was difficult to work with montsarat.she barely had time and just wanted to turn up and re ord. This was the first opera cross over so they had to learn as they went along. As Freddie saud they were out of lyrics! He had the idea and theme but it wasn't working so asked Tim Rice to help and he wrote this Probably tweaked again afterwards Freddie loved gospel so yes probably his idea. She was a top soprano but the way they worked was rigid she said Freddie taught her how to enjoy it and said she sang in a way she never had before So so glad they had this chance So sad this song doesn't have more attention Only Freddie could get everyone to sing slowly like a steam train at full pelt! Im not religious and dont beleive there can be a heaven but the idea brings comfort But..Ive decided there has to be one! I have to beleive Freddie is there conducting everyone from every genre into yet another masterpiece! They had to send demos to her wait for feedback record if she was happy with it then record her sections over it when she had time

I don't think its fair to say that *Montserrat 'just wanted to turn up and record'. People forget that at the time, Montserrat Caballe was as big a superstar/icon in the opera world, as Freddie was in contemporary. Except in her field, they book up YEARS in advance. So all of these recordings were carried out in her 'spare' time, which would literally be a day or two every few months. In fact she was so invested in this album, according to her biography, she cancelled a concert here and there (that were booked years in advance)to accommodate Freddie's time(much to his horror!). Plus, listening to the 'Practice Sessions' between these two is not only a joy, but a great insight into how they bounced off of one another.

@@TheSeeker246 Yes partly to her schedule but that is how they work. Freddie said she said she could book in a couple of days to record all her vocals and said I dont work like that. I said in another comment she said how they work is very disciplined and rigid. But Freddie taught her how to have fun and enjoy it and she sang in a way she hadn't before. I said here they didnt just say right this is what your doing She gave feedback.... Freddie loved opera but didn't know anything about composing or writing for an opera singer. Mike said it was difficult and they learnt as they went along
