Never thought a saw could bring a tear to my eye... outside of a torture chamber, that is.

The Saw might be my new favourite musical instrument. Has a very clear and crisp sound, similar to vocals of an opera singer.

You are right - it really sounds like a woman singing. When I play in the subway, many people who hear my sound before seeing me, come looking for a singer :)

hearing your music and seeing you smile just had me burst into tears (and I'm a 32 years old russian who bathes in snow during winter, no joke), I can rarely sit through a video without swapping to other tabs, but I just got mesmerized by your music, by your smile, by the emotion, the energy, the absolute peak of some kind of spiritual happiness; it feels like I reached some point where joy and sadness just cease to exist and something entirely different manifests. This is pure magic - the physics, the art, the craftsmanship, the human emotion all come together in such harmony to form something - for me - entirely new. I hope I get to see you live at least once!!
@SawLady Жыл бұрын
I am so moved by your words that I read them twice. I am touched that you see and understand! You describe what I feel better than I could with words. I like how you said " point where joy and sadness just cease to exist" - I thought of it as a mix of joy & sadness to the point similar to how all the colors of the rainbow are seen as white when it is totally mixed, but I like your way of putting it, too! Thank you so much for your beautiful words!

You have such good eyes and ears! Many years ago I met thereminist Clara Rockmore (amazing musician and Leon Theremin's protégé). She told me that I remind her of herself when she was young and that the technique I developed with the saw is similar to the technique she developed with the theremin. I am impressed that you zoomed in on it! Most people only notice the similarity of the sound but not the movements.

In rock, listen to its use in the They Might Be Giant’s “James K Polk”. Incredible use, goes with the music and its subject’s times regarding the subject. In any event, a great instrument when used at the right time and the right place. Same for any instrument, but especially for one rarely used and especially when both lauded and not expected in its use.
