Well...that's not TOO far off the original. David falls in love with Dora Spenlow (who is Lady Not Appearing In This Musical) because she's so much like his mother--pretty, flighty, and extremely childish. Actually, both childISH and childLIKE. After he marries her, although he continues to love her, he realizes she's just not cut out for the realities of marriage or domestic life. She conveniently dies off, leaving him to marry the perfect Victorian angel-in-the-house Agnes.

4:55 I know it's silly to bring up, but the "Tragic Victorian Illness Cough" trope actually does have a pretty good explanation: Tuberculosis. TB symptoms tend to include: coughing (often with blood), fatigue, fever, night sweats, and even wasting of muscles; all common in "mysterious movie cough". It may seem contrived now but for a long time TB was a widespread cause of death, so it's not unusual for it to be included in a lot of stories at the time. Even though now TB is easily treatable and much less common, it was such an integral part of life for a long time that the trope stuck.

@Snowmon894 жыл бұрын
I kind of don't agree about number 3. I mean yeah, it can be interpreted in that way, which is very creepy. However, I think this is the fault of us (or more specifically DISNEY) taking the trope of "damsel in distress" and turning it into "I do this because I wanna marry you". In reality, most fairytale stories don't actually have a "Damsel in distress" trope to begin with (although, yeah often "the hero gets the girl/guy"). But the concept is about being Chivalrous, which is more in line with "I want to be your hero". Which I can see more in line with Tarzan with his mother. Or rather his mother with him. TL;DR Sure, Superman does constantly save Lois Lane, but he's also rescued plenty of other people that he didn't want to "get with" as well. She's just the one that he has the deepest personal relationship with.

My face during the first song...the was I was struggling to see through my tears. The second song didn't pack the same punch, but shows with teen boys often make them go all Oedipus to show how much she shouldn't get with The Bad Man. Sometimes I wonder about how it feels to grow up with so many bad musicals, I would have never learned about these if not for this channel.

I especially can't believe they left out Uriah Heep, who ironically could've worked as a cartoon villain... I get they couldn't have used EVERY character in the book, but still. Though they probably could've used a few more without the bird sidekick, giant vulture, and cheese zombies... Lord knows they should've used one of Davie's other friends besides Mealy. 😐

I’d take a strong female character who helps her people over one that is against people just for being male. And that makes Tawna one of the reasons why the Crash Bandicoot N-Sane Trilogy is one of the greatest Crash Bandicoot games up to the ranks of Crash Team Racing (the original version and remake) and its original version(s), *Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back* and *Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped* although the original version of Crash Bandicoot 1 does come close.

I would like to point out that I'm a big fan of Bleak Expectations, an extremely silly British radio series which spoofed the David Copperfield template. There's a reason why that show discarded the actual "story" pretty quickly to throw stuff like the "Cheese Monster" at us every two minutes...

Fun fact: David is voiced by Julian Lennon, son of John. Needless to say, I think Sean had the better musical outing with A Monster in Paris, which is saying something, considering his main role in that film is singing three songs slightly outside of his vocal range and basically nothing else.

Even with all of the problems this movie presents, the one I find the most annoying is Mirthstone for some ungodly reason wanting to fatten up and eaten his Cheese Monster. Like dude, surely I shouldn't have to explain to you that she's been guarding your entire factory, and from the dialogue, clearly the main thing the children imprisoned fear. Are you SO sure that you're plan is fool proof, whatever the hell your plan is, that you can survive without one of its main components?

Ugh, pop ballads with Victorian visuals again. I'm reminded of the music video of Juliet by the Bee Gees, with the framing device being a writer expressing his love by writing a romantic novel of a swashbuckler saving a damsel in distress. All kinds of cheesy, but at least it was condensed to less than five minutes, not a full movie. Actually, come to think of it, MOST of the songs in this film give me an 80s Bee Gees vibe.
