.....and above all else: Humble. A most redeeming quality which so many feign or ignore entirely. Born to play. Born to teach. Govan is a model of dedication to the art, the skill, and the passion necessary to truly earn the title of virtuoso.

Jack Skull do you know that Guthrie is actually an arab? He was born in Teheran as Gufri Gaffar. Go look at his Wikipedia page. Those facial hairs may have covered it, but if you look closely, Guthrie's facial features are very arabian.

He talks about the unemotional feel of shredding right before he ignotes his fretboard on fire with the friction of his fingers shredding. He can play/do anything. He once beat Forrest Gump at ping pong using nothing but a 1mm pick.

Thank goodness for Guthrie's clarity of thought. Communication is an art I do not often associate with top class players. I could listen to Guthrie's clear explanations all day. And it's refreshing to hear him say when he's not sure about something rather than pretend otherwise. It was a joy to see him perform with Mr. Wilson on the Raven tour and I am very much looking forward to watching and hearing him play again in a month or so on Wilson's H.C.E. tour. If you haven't listened to his gorgeous emotive playing on Drive Home then do check it out.

His terminology is so amazing haha. Guthrie is the type of guitar virtuoso that will shame you in a musical shred off then spend the next 2 hours explaining to you why it was necessary to put you in your place and how he was able to summon such techniques and genius. In Eb minor 7 add 11.

I've been playing for 40 yrs and I've came across countless teachers to some degree or another, and I've never actually "heard" what any one of them was trying to convey to me, until now! Guthrie Govan you have explained in such a way that I "get it" 100%, and that to me is nothing less than amazing! You, my friend, are God's gift to players everywhere! You have re-excited me to a degree I haven't been in quite a while! A sincere thank you seems to pale in comparison to the true extent of my true gratitude.

Relates to the (all too familiar) questions, following with, "What you may be doing wrong". He then leads into ground up solutions broken down into concepts based on levels of proficiency, and finally punctuates the lesson with elegant summations. Not sure what more anyone could want. There is a heap of sage advice here. Thank you very much for all of this. My personal favorite was, " It's where you put the notes, not where the notes are."

Guthrie maybe the fastest shredder who knows all the chords and modes. But he definitely is the greatest rhythmic player. His groupings Subdivisions Rests His percussion And everything rythmic is absolutely perfect. Guthrie is the greatest rhythmic player in the world. And that makes him the greatest player in the world.

I'm aware of a whole bunch of em... and yeah, I'm also aware that there's a whole bunch out there I know nothing about at all. But for me... Guthrie Govan is one player that's really captured my attention... he just seems to have it 'all together'. He has an endless array of tones... feels... chops... and ties it all together in a very musical way. He's a very human type player... very organic in his approach if you know what I mean?

Hey Guthrie! You have inspired my son and I to raise our own bars to higher expectations within ourselves to the next level. Thanks a million times over. Only once in life time comes along a virtuoso such as yourself, that really understands his own limits and strives to exceed them in every performance. Our hats are off to you my friend. Take a bow, you are due that many times over. Keep on doing your own thing and staying true to your own ideas, and we await you next great moment! Thanks again Dana E.

I love how Guthrie Govan plays a lot of different styles, technical stuff, and improvises on a level far higher than many shredders are capable. Yet, BLUES guitar is what he loves and considers himself as first. Unlike most modern technical guitar players these days who often underestimate blues guitar for being "technically simple", Govan would rave about BB King, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, SRV, Allan Holdsworth, Frank Gambale and Yngwie Malmsteen equally. That's one of the main differences between guys like Govan/Hutchings and other modern shred players nowadays.

I mean this in the nicest way, but where does this sort of extra-ordinary talent, musical knowledge, eloquence come from. Is it from the planet earth (and to repeat I do mean that nicely !)?. I have just about enough musical knowledge to follow what he is explaining and he does have the ability to break down, explain and simplify some difficult concepts, but that said, will I never be able to execute them at any sort of proficiency ?, I doubt very much !. I had the good fortune to watch him at Music Live around 2009 and he signed a copy of Erotic Cakes for me. Came across as a really humble, nice and patient guy, as he does in many of these type of videos.

I love how he always looks like he is about to break out into a huge grin when discussing technique. Hilarious and amazing. Great teacher! Thanks, Guthrie - you've gained a fan!

Guthrie is so amazing! By far the best fusion progressive player out there right now. His understanding of the theory of music is awesome. One thing that I teach is knowing the fret board. know every note on it. It helps with the shaping of runs.
