Thank goodness for Guthrie's clarity of thought. Communication is an art I do not often associate with top class players. I could listen to Guthrie's clear explanations all day. And it's refreshing to hear him say when he's not sure about something rather than pretend otherwise. It was a joy to see him perform with Mr. Wilson on the Raven tour and I am very much looking forward to watching and hearing him play again in a month or so on Wilson's H.C.E. tour. If you haven't listened to his gorgeous emotive playing on Drive Home then do check it out.

Relates to the (all too familiar) questions, following with, "What you may be doing wrong". He then leads into ground up solutions broken down into concepts based on levels of proficiency, and finally punctuates the lesson with elegant summations. Not sure what more anyone could want. There is a heap of sage advice here. Thank you very much for all of this. My personal favorite was, " It's where you put the notes, not where the notes are."

I love how Guthrie Govan plays a lot of different styles, technical stuff, and improvises on a level far higher than many shredders are capable. Yet, BLUES guitar is what he loves and considers himself as first. Unlike most modern technical guitar players these days who often underestimate blues guitar for being "technically simple", Govan would rave about BB King, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, SRV, Allan Holdsworth, Frank Gambale and Yngwie Malmsteen equally. That's one of the main differences between guys like Govan/Hutchings and other modern shred players nowadays.

I mean this in the nicest way, but where does this sort of extra-ordinary talent, musical knowledge, eloquence come from. Is it from the planet earth (and to repeat I do mean that nicely !)?. I have just about enough musical knowledge to follow what he is explaining and he does have the ability to break down, explain and simplify some difficult concepts, but that said, will I never be able to execute them at any sort of proficiency ?, I doubt very much !. I had the good fortune to watch him at Music Live around 2009 and he signed a copy of Erotic Cakes for me. Came across as a really humble, nice and patient guy, as he does in many of these type of videos.
