I already commented but I actually have another one. Be More Chill. Now hear me out, I hated it as much as the next guy, but I local theatre in my area (with a great reputation) was doing it and I decided to go see it. I loved it. I think it is meant to be performed in a rinky dink type space and not be taken seriously. As soon as it moved to Broadway and became high tech and professional it ruined it. The point of it is it’s not meant to be great but it’s meant to be fun and funny and relatable and it does a great job at that. Walking out of the theatre I was smiling and that’s one of the best things a show can do. That being said I still don’t like the OBC recording but I do enjoy the original cast recording. I think it’s fun and quirky and more people should give it a chance. I am glad, however, that the Broadway show closed.
@fairlywildchild14554 жыл бұрын
Totally agree! I never really understood the hate it got. The music and plot may be a little kitschy, but from my perspective it has a lot of the components I really enjoy in a musical. However, I wasn't even aware the Broadway version existed, so maybe if that was my first introduction to the musical I might not have liked it as much as I did.

I like mean girls, but I honestly didn't like the bootleg that much. Idk, the movie showed a lot of emotion and actual meanness and guilt, but the musical was just funny. Mean Girls is a comedy, but it also needs some emotion shared, not just funny funny, because the story is about a girl becoming mean, and actually mean, not funny, over exxagerated mean. I know its not the movie, but it was a little dissappointing. I love Regina's songs, but she's exxagerated too much as well, making me not feel for Cady. I still love the show, but I was definitely disappointed.

Did you hear about the Frozen Broadway shutdown???!???!???!??!???!? I heard about it and started BALLING. I ran downstairs to my little sister and she thought I was insane. I feel so bad for all of the stars in the show especially Mckenzie Kurtz who was making her Broadway debut. It was my favorite musical I saw on Broadway and the first show I stage doored at. I actually got to meet Patti Murin which I thought was BEYOND cool. I also played Anna in a local production of Frozen Jr. and as you may or may not agree with, doing a show gets you very attached to any and everything involving that show. It's like a part of me. I really didn't like Legally blonde because of everything I had heard from the over the top pink decor and glitter and the hated opening number of OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD and the way my whole high school drama department including the drama teacher didn't like it ,made me hesitant to watch it. However, when I finally watched it, it was beautiful. I could go and rant in the comments but just know that it's a genuine show
@Neemeeify4 жыл бұрын
Same, I thought it was totally overrated until I watched the whole thing through (I actually think being a little older by the time I did this kind of helped) and was completely hooked by the end. It's now in my top 3 favourite musicals.

that makes total sense, the album of into the woods is ok not showstopping or anything but the music doesn't get the dry wit of the actual show after seeing the original cast recording it's one of my favorites!

Back in 2018, my dad told me about the first show we would see in our new state. It was Little Shop of Horrors. I had never heard of it, so my dad showed me some songs. I HATED it and dread the entire drive there. When the show started, I was already not into it. At the end, I was in tears from joy, confusion, and sadness. Now, it’s one of my top 10 favorites! I try to see every community production of it near me now!

Didn't hate it, but I wasn't at all interested is Mean Girls the musical until I heard Someone gets hurt reprise and Renee Rapp singing world burn. To this day I haven't watched the original movie l, so I wasn't driven by nostalgia at all. My birthday is January 1st, so I went to see it before Broadway closed, and I loved it.

Hamilton. I didn’t hate it when I listened to it, but I just didn’t understand it. I’m a visual person so the album was a lot for me to try to understand. Then I saw it in Chicago and was hooked. The visuals of this show make this show. The ensemble is incredible and really are the people who made me appreciate the show so much more.

Okay, so there’s this musical called ‘The Secret Garden’ based off the novel of the same name. Now I read the novel and in all honesty, I didn’t like it a whole lot. So when my mom got us tickets, I wasn’t as excited to go as normal. But than I saw it, and my god it was amazing. The score is haunting yet beautiful and heart wrenching and you can just feel the pain that Archibald and Mary go through, and after the musical, I just remember bawling my eyes out in the car with my mom on our way to Wendy’s. All in all, it’s definitely a must watch. Personally, if possible, it’s best experienced live, as just listening to the soundtrack won’t make you feel as much as seeing it live, but that’s a given with any musical really.

I fully admit Hamilton. I am not a rap fan and there was maybe at the time 4 songs I enjoyed listening to but I couldn't explore past them. Then, as a birthday present for my cousin, I took her to go see the tour and I got hooked. I was extremely impressed with the choreography. It worked amazing and the songs were good. Now, I am listening to more and more of the songs and enjoying it. My cousin loves to joke saying, "I knew you would come around." Is it my favorite? No.... Is it really good? Yes! It was better then I thought it would be.

I really thought I was gonna hate Legally Blonde! I judged it sooooo hard when it came out like “Ew Broadway THIS is what we’re doing now?” But it is undeniably solid and the pacing is incredible. The pacing is the best part of Legally Blonde And then also Wicked. The Defying Gravity ads don’t sell the element that the show is funny consistently. I’ve laughed more watching Wicked than specifically comedic musicals

For me it was Beetlejuice, POTO (Phantom of the Opera) and Something Rotten. For Beetlejuice I didn’t understand the hype. Then for POTO I kept thinking it was over-hyped. And Something Rotten I thought it was badly written then I saw it-

Dear Evan Hansen. I read the book before either seeing or listening to it and was low key shocked at how terrible Evan came across. On paper he’s much more manipulative and frustratingly indirect. Seeing it really made me appreciate the actors who bring him to life with more compassion and don’t try to excuse his mistakes but play him as a more complex and sympathetic character. Plus the soundtrack SLAPS so that helped. I still think Evan gets off a little too easy at the end tho.

as someone who LOVES the musical, i’m so grateful you gave the stage version a chance after reading the terrible adaptation!!!! seriously, i couldn’t finish the novel. the tone was so against everything i came away from the show with, and it just upset me thinking about people like you who would pick up the book first and write it off as bad. D: if anyone else came away from the novel disliking it/the characters, i implore you to check out the musical anyway, for the characterization and performances are much more nuanced and compelling!

As a British person, I really wanted to love the Full Monty, but when I found out that they changed the location of the film (Sheffield UK) to the USA for the musical, a little part of me died. I don’t know if it’s because it feels like this happens all too often, or because the film to me is so well loved and so very British but because of the Americanisation of the story I just couldn’t get into it. Glad you enjoyed it though! ❤️
