Eileen Derbyshire is under appreciated as an actress - and a lovely looking woman too! Miss her from the street.

She used to be in radio dramas a lot in the 70s and 80s. I never once recognised her voice, very talented voice actress.

I always thought it was sad that Linda had such a bitter view of her mother and her life, perhaps because it blends with how unhappy the actress was with Corrie by the time she left for good in 1984 (not counting this appearance). I'm glad that this special highlighted Elsie's humor. That's something you don't see in soap heroines now. It's misery and shouting all the time.

This wasn't part of the series .. this was released as a separate video to commemorate Elsie

How sad that actress Pat Phoenix had died the year before this was made, in 1986 aged just 63. Gone far too soon - and much missed!

3:20 they talk about Elsie's death but Dennis claimed reasently she didn't die until 2004.

They really need to re-employ an archivist on this show.

@@Lucy0809 Because what Linda says about Elsie here was totally different to what Dennis said about Elsie when he returned a few years later!

The thing that puzzles me is when Linda returned to the street in 1987 she more or less told Emily Bishop that since leaving the street Elsie had died. Coronation Street producers clearly forgot this as when Dennis Tanner returned in 2010 he told Rita Sullivan that Elsie had died along with Bill Gregory in a car crash
@glamdolly307 жыл бұрын
Yes - a plot/continuity balls-up. I prefer the later version, that Elsie died a glamorous death in a car crash while living the high life in Portugal with her lover Bill Gregory.
@omegatango7 жыл бұрын
The only way this could be still part of continuity would be Elsie's not died but on her deathbed, and they actually mean she's practically dead. She somehow has a miraculous recovery and with the new lease on life gets back in contact with Bill Gregory not long after, say 1988 or 1989 and they live happily until the accident in 2004.

glamdolly20 Won't be long before they bring Elsie back from the dead ( like Kathy Beale and Den Watts in EastEnders). After all, both 'deaths' were unseen, weren't they? And Kathy's supposed death was a car crash...

I like that version - however a lot of the writers/ script editors aren't experts on the series continuity. Even Daran Little gets it wrong sometimes!
@kevinlongman0075 жыл бұрын
@@francofan100 They no longer have an archivist on the show which is why these kind of cock ups now occur.

@matthewperry1982 I'm looking forward to it, although the description of him (enemies with Ken - he really wasn't...up to no good - he really wasn't, most of the time), don't fill me with hope. Then again little with Corrie does these days.

How odd. No screaming or shouting _ she was an awful character and Elsie was completely overated!
