It’s stunning that even though they asked a yes/no question, the music stimulated him as so much to continue to communicate at length more than he normally does. That was the point of this exercise. …A yes/no question then acts as a place to start. The music he loved stimulated him to go past what his norm was.

Before my grandfather died in 2020, he began to suffer from dementia. Funny enough I have the same interest in music he did at my age. I soon learned playing music from the 60’s really changed his demeanor. I would play Joe Cocker, The Doors, and Jimi Hendrix. After a few times of playing this music for him, he began to remember things from the 60’s. He told me he had seen Jimi Hendrix in concert, and remembered not having any money to buy a ticket for The Doors, so he figured out a way behind the stage and smoked pot with some roadies back stage listening to Jim Morrison that way. And, telling me the story of him missing his ride to get to Woodstock. He had been able to remember so many things from decades before, but forget what he ate for breakfast. I plan to write a book for my grandfather. I’ve gathered enough of his life stories to fill a book. After his passing, I inherited his entire record collection. Almost every single one of those vinyls are originals from the year of release. It’s bitter sweet losing my grandfather. I miss him so much, but will cherish these records until the day I die. Music is incredibly important. It’s such a beautiful thing humans share together.

It has been known for DECADES that dementia patients react very well to their own music being played for them. It improves their brain function and it even slows the progress of the disease. Why isn't this used in every nursing home in the country?
@CrownedOne9193 жыл бұрын
Because they don't want people viable, they want people to be dependent on the medical system. The ones who actually care wish there was something they themselves could do to bring that vibrance back, but the industry as a whole wants "patients" and not " productives". God bless those people in this video who made that man's day. Dare I say with my heart and soul I thank God He had mercy and took my parents Home to Him so they would not have to suffer thru this pandemic, but mostly before their dementia each got worse. My sis and I wouldn't have been able to deal with seeing them in that way during all this, esp. in my hometown NYC

And you're absolutely right about the powers that be wanting us to be patients. There's no money in healthy people. Medical doctors aren't even trained in nutrition in med school--hence, the horrible advice they give on what to eat, how to lose weight, etc. They want you to be ill, to buy their drugs and to end up in a nursing home.

I almost fainted 😂 After that, I continued to talk to the patient and sometimes sing as I cared for her. One day I was singing and I saw tears in her eyes. @faithm92843 жыл бұрын
Just because he called her a hat, doesn't mean he didn't recognize her as his wife. Sometimes the mouth releases different words, replaces what the true item, or person is but they are recognized as the correct person. It takes a bit to thumb through the mental files. Those with Brain injuries and stroke go through the same thing. If you drop a computer out a window it will have some issues. Some are fixable, maybe all with the correct 'technician' (if from a accident). If it's from diet, (dementia, Alzheimers) the efforts have to be extreme, and the food in a rehabilitation center and N.H. will have you or a loved one decline with continuing body, brain inflammation.

It doesn't have to be, my grandmother (95 in 2 weeks) lives alone, still drives, is active in her yard (gardening and such), walks and moves around without any assistance. All the credit is due to her change in diet she became extremely aware and wanted to learn about food and it's effects on the body after she beat breast cancer. Ever since then she's been doing everything in her power to live a good quality of life. Now of course she won't escape death, but the goal is to not go out in pain and agony( cancers, diseases, illneses). And to one day just drift off in her sleep of old age. Most of these diseases that we are faced with when we get old are the cause of not so good diets and what we put in our body. If you can change that you have a very high chance of not having to deal with these illnesses.

I can’t prepare you for it… its an honor to be allowed to be present at their end of life. Whatever the beginning and middle was like. The end is painful and joyous, simultaneously. For me anyway. Its hard when someone dies and you are left with questions unanswered, hurt gone unsoothed.. etc. ….. what’s done, is done…..

Interviewer: “What does music do to you?” Henry: “It gives me the feeling of love! Romance. I figure right now the world needs to come into music. Singing. You’ve got beautiful music here! Beautiful! Oh, lovely! I feel the band of love… of dreams! “The Lord came to me and made me holy, I’m a holy man. So he gave me these sounds!” The fact that this man was basically nonverbal when left to his own devices and minimally responsive to questions before the music.and that the above is his actual words after just a song or two being listened to absolutely blows me away.

He is clearly mentally strong. At the start he looked like husk. A shadow of himself. After listening to music from back in the day and speaking to the interviewer I saw remnants of the young man he used to be. Something tells me that when we first saw him he looked defeated. I think the music remind him of the beauty in this world and gave him extra strength to keep on chugging along. He shed 20 years instantly the second those headphones went on. Music is love. Music is life. Music is everything.

Congratulations! You will be making a real difference in many people’s quality of life. When my grandmother was in assisted-living and had come to the point where she could no longer speak, she would still sing the soprano part of the songs we sang for her. And when she was no longer responsive (At the age of 97) she would move her toes in time to whatever we were singing to her. You will help people re-engage with life. You will help young children to connect, with life and with others. What a contribution you will be making! I don’t know you, but I am proud of you.

Not necessarily - my wife's grandmother is 84ish, lives independently, is full of vigor, has no problem making the 20 minute (my time) walk to her daughter, cooks for herself (and us - delicious!) and despite the recent loss of her husband is full of positivity. My mother is 94, also lives independently, can still drive, has all her mental faculties. We chat about anything and everything, current affairs, past memories, you name it. Her mobility is not what it was but she's 100% there mentally. And hasn't the originator of Gaia theory just reached 104? He's still pretty solid.
