This is gorgeous playing and one of the best recordings, if not the best, of this piece. Vibrato is a matter of taste - to me this works brilliantly here. Sparkling and clear - that brings this piece to life more than the 'illegal' vibrato school. There are different styles within impressionism - that is the point. Seurat v. Degas etc... Listen to Galway for a few hundred hours and get used to more vibrato used beautifully - as an option. This flute works brilliantly - metal was the vehicle of the golden age of conservatoire music. It is a beautifully crafted river punt - not a truck. Listen again ten times for the control - then you might withdraw your disgusting expletives. I do not know this player and have no conflict of interest.

@Stephen Martin I can't imagine playing flute without vibrato

Yes, I feel like it would be beneficial to take a few music lessons from a good string (esp. violin) instructor. I understand that string players (well, serious string players) study vibrato to great detail.
@siya4ful6 жыл бұрын
Stephen Martin what do you mean by “illegal vibrato school”?
@60darklord4 жыл бұрын
siya4ful super heavy vibrato like this piece is considered not tasteful and excessive. My college professor taught us to adapt the vibrato to the piece and time period. Like romantic pieces get the super dramatic in your face while classical is less so, but still there and etc.

Everything sounds amazing, until the ending. Its to abrupt. It felt as if you were in a dream during the piece and in the end someone woke you up and surprised you.

Part of a series of compositions for early 20 century flutists attending the Paris Conservatory.

@musicanth I don't think this is written for flute and orchestra. Although, you could arrange the accompaniment for orchestra. The proper interpretation for this genre of music would be somewhat difficult for an orchestra since there are so many liberties taken by the soloist, very typical of French solo music.

OMG this is impossible. I do understand how people can triple tongue.
@laurianeboulezaz7 жыл бұрын
Notya Urbusniess I thought the same when I started flute but now I'm able to doing it because you just have to learn it by heart and then you work very slowly and you go faster and faster and you'll finish to do it ! (Sorry for mistakes ,I'm french)
@OmarMartinez-vj9kf6 жыл бұрын
Notya Urbusniess just takes a lot of practice I can nearly double toung
@andrewg62414 жыл бұрын
Once you can double tongue, you're almost ready to triple tongue! It's just different combinations of Ts and Ks. For double it's TKTK repeating, but in your tonguing practice, you work through KTKT, TKTT, TKKT, KTTK, etc. once you get familiar with all combinations of Ts and Ks, triple tonguing is no problem. Your options are mainly: TKT TKT, or TKT KTK (which is double, but with groupings of 3 instead of 2.)

It says the flutist is Susan Milan and the pianist Ian Brown. The latter I've heard perform -- an excellent British musician who was with the Nash Ensemble for many years. Not being a flutist I don't get all the polemics in peoples' comments about the soloist.
