As much as I love Daryl, having a hidden talent like Jon Oates and him quite willing to hide from the limelight with this amazing voice is quite astounding. Even the dodgy equipment, and normal flaws in performances seem to hold him in the highest regard and come together to produce flawless sounding songs when he sings. His performance of Possession Obsession in the Liberty concert went straight into my top 10 songs ever without any resistance at all. I am no master of their music, but it is remarkable how he has this gift of being capable of stealing the show, whilst remaining reserved. It is the apparent effortlessness that is the puzzling thing.

@lamusiclover22644 жыл бұрын
People are commenting about the high notes. As any singer gets older, their voices deepen and it's hard to reach the high notes that they did when they were younger. Most singers change the key of the songs when they sing them live to accommodate for that or they do a little rearranging of the notes. It's Not unusual at all.

I agree, 'the sound' is there, 'as long as 'the tone' is "there"...
@staceyduncan74903 жыл бұрын
I agree with the sad truth of the deteriorating vocal ability of aged singers. That said, I wish they had adjusted his vocals to his current abilities and folled in the jogh notes with backupvsingers. There is no shame there as most performers adjust to accomidate their voices as they lose abilities. They were most famous when I was a teen and I love them. It saddens me to see him struggling. The induction is well deserved, but this just made me sad.
@garycooper86873 жыл бұрын
They also drop keys to bring songs into their range when they are young. Some of us sound better in certain keys. Transposing in the official term. The song is completely flat anyway. It does not have the high flighting lead riffs and fills.
@chicanobear133 жыл бұрын
I'd rather have him lower key than going with the gadgets to help him.. his voice has a more husky tone.. I dig it.. BTW seen them live alot.. last time '18 and they were stellar

When Daryl Hall and John Oates took to the stage at Sydney’s Entertainment Centre as the iconic bass line of ‘Maneater’ began to play, the fans knew they were in for a treat. This duo may have been opening concerts with that irresistibly smooth number for years, but it never seems to lose its magic, and the crowd - an eclectic mix of teens and baby boomers alike - lapped it up. Daryl Hall and John Oates wisely reunited a few years ago after a string of solo projects, and although Oates no longer sports his signature ‘tache, they put on the kind of show that makes it hard to believe they even considered going their separate ways. Earworms like ‘I Can’t Go For That’, ‘Out Of Touch’ and ‘Kiss On My List’ were surefire reminders that these guys are absolute hit machines, and their catchy synth-soul classics probably deserve to permeate the airwaves as much today as they did decades ago. These Philly crooners still have it in bucket-loads, so this show should have everyone from diehard Daryl Hall and John Oates fans to kids of the 80s groovin’ along in no time.

Daryl is the best technical vocalist in rick / soul music, his morning to a musical family from a mother who was a vocal teacher who recognized his talent and began teaching him at age three, during his life he's had his own bands, attended Temple University as a music Major, he's always been an inspiration to me as a musician and vocalist, I had greater structures but Daryl has always been like the music teacher who became a rockstar, it's obvious in the stringent directing of the bands and his expectations of his band members to be superhuman musicians, he has stated of his band that he could take each member and change them around in two different instruments and his band would sound the same great quality, if you watch some of their performances over the years then you will see some of the band members doing just that, he is a musician musician and cares about musicianship and musicians and respect real musicianship and introduces them by name live during concerts and gives credit where credit is due and believes in having every instrumental and vocal sound and a band represented by a living actual human being, NO ONE respects musicians in that way anymore. He is a giftted talent at any age even after fifty years now of recording and performing and no one is like that anymore, he needs no validation play other musicians of his genre but he has plenty of it, a lesser-known example is Eddie Van Halen inviting him to join his group when he was putting it together as lead vocalist and Daryl turned him down respectfully that's not what he and John were about, but there was continued respect between he and Eddie, Daryl is revered and respected in the world of popular music and "children" these days should learn to RESPECT him and learn from him as well.

80's bands are the best

I consider them just as much 70s as they are 80s. In my opinion their best album was ‘Abandoned Luncheonette” which came out in ‘73. Underrated masterpiece in my opinion it was the album that produced ‘She’s gone’ :)
