Back in 2018 I went shopping for a Martin. Found a J-15 that I really liked. Went home to research Gibson and convinced myself I should want a J-45. Went back and tried a couple of 45s and a J-35. Still preferred the J-15 over everything. Bought it and haven't had a single moment of regret. J-15s are amazing guitars. Someday I dream of adding a hummingbird or SJ200 to the collection, but I'm happy as a lark with my J-15. Nothing sounds quite like it, imo.

The J-15 walnut was very bright, I love the dark warmth of a J-45 mahogany. The Hummingbird and J-200 sound most balanced and great for strumming

First Gibson I bought was the J45. Traded it back in. Didnt like neck. I've got the mystic rosewood J200. Hummingbird, only 50 issued run. Thought I'd never get another Gibson (had 8) but then I tried the J15, always liked walnut. Best neck I've had on a Gibson. It's all in the neck for me, but I'm old.

I have a Gibson Gospel I inherited from my father in law. I just love it. Gibson guitars are almost the middle ground between the blue grass/country feel of a martin and the bright James Taylor singer song writer sound of a Taylor. Mine was made in the early 70s during the Jesus Movement which inspired the modern Gospel music we hear on radio stations today. The Gibson Gospel is cheaper than a Humming Bird or a J45 and less decorative but the sound is great as you sing along.

J15 is definitely not just a J45 jr, that’s for sure. The natural finish one has a beautiful natural maple neck with walnut back and sides. Very beautiful guitar, not a compromise budget model by any means.
@jonnydevore30893 жыл бұрын
Agreed! I have a 2001 j45 and a 2017 j15 and I have to say they both have different characteristics. That said, the j15 is beat to my ear by a mile. After 3 years of play now the natural top has yellowed, mellowed and opened up. The j45 and j15 have IDENTICAL dimensions, bracing etc, essentially the same guitar with different back, side and neck wood and the j15 has the vintage bridge. If you put retro strings in the j15 it’ll make it more clear and louder, very loud. With just some simple phosphor bronze, after a week, the woody and warm sound is incredibly vintage and beautiful sounding. I advise for anyone looking to pull the trigger on a j15!

Even though the j15 is essentially a j45 but with upgrades? The maple neck with walnut stringer, beautiful walnut tone woods? A Taylor costs about $800-$1000 more to have walnut haha I own both, j45 and j15 and the 15 is astonishing. Especially back when they were $1500, what a steal! Gibson has caught on that the j15 is an upgrade combo in every other manufacturer line. But I will agree that sometimes, that sweet mahogany tone of the 45 is a mood.
