I have a 2001 J45. It was my main gig guitar for years. I love that thing, still my favorite acoustic guitar. I agree with you, it is about as close to perfection as you can get.

I have a beautiful Taylor built to order for the 2012 Taylor Road show that I bought in 2014. At the time it was a toss up between a J45 that I couldn't put down because it just felt right but it had a certain ring to it that I thought might annoy me in the long run so I bought the Taylor. Now I'm ready to buy a new guitar and I've been trying J45s a Martin D18, D28 and I will try a D35 but I'm thinking I will be coming home with a J45! Thanks for posting.

It looks like the J-45 no longer has the big thick "crystal" pickguard. That is a good thing. My 2016 J-45 had the thick one until I peeled it off earlier this week. The thick pickguard is actually made from two fairly soft plastic pieces that are bonded together; a clear piece on top bonded to a tortoise looking piece. Mine had curled at the corners and the plastic pieces were de-laminating. There is some trivia for you. Great guitar picking in the video by the way.

Yesterday I played a J-45 for the first time ever. Quite possibly the best acoustic I've ever played... & I've played many. Right now my #1 is a Taylor 816ce. I can't stop thinking about the sound and feel of the J-45 though!! Any suggestions on the best pickup system for this beauty? 😎🎸👍

Hey Guys been a while just not enough time sometimes.! I truly will come out of the woodwork for the GUITAR J-45!! U said the specks, but I Grew up with my father having a J-45, as a young man it's a handful but as I grew so did I to the J-45 ONLY 70's sold it was old my sister still has her but I still dream of having my own 45 some day but at 56 Those days are slower to come, but I play my Ovation Glenn Camble Sig 66 bound Gold Grover's Custom Hardshell Case and Beautiful Neck 🙏 Greatfull to have her but if you have the money & don't want to be a Martin Player & looking 4 something More then U should give J-45 a chance if I had the $ much preferred J-45 over D-28 Just me, I like Martin my Dad had had a bunch & they R Fine Guitars but A J-45! I chose Martin D28 over the J45 after comparing. I sure wouldn’t mind getting a J45 to add to my collection. A great guitar. Was also considering a D18.
@theraise524311 ай бұрын
Not for melody playing. The d28 is designed for rythm and does it well, however if picking for melody, is blends too much compared to the j45 that does melody well. J45 def doesn’t rythm as well as the Martin but if you want a guitar to do both. Get the j45
@swampscott267010 ай бұрын
All three of those are classics and standards for a reason.
@jacobfranzgrote8 ай бұрын
@@theraise5243Literally why I always struggle between getting a J-45 vs a D28. The D28 definitely has a much clearer and better defined low end and balance for rhythm work, you say the J-45 is better for both, but I'd say the D28 definitely has a clear distinction for its low end properties that are applied to a solo act setting. That being said the playability of the J-45 was leaps above any other acoustic (D28 included) and I'm not huge on the ebony fretboard honestly either. If it's accompanying other instruments, I'd say J-45 every time. The D18 to me was a great guitar as well, but anything I wanted it to do I feel either the D28 or J-45 does better. If you're going for a very certain tone, I'm sure it's ideal, but to me it didn't have the weight that the D28 carries with its fullness, and almost everything else the J-45 at least edged it out.

I bought a new 2020 j-45. A wonderful guitar. Gibson could have put a better pickup in it. The lr baggs vtc piezo pickup is clackey sounding. If you like clack this is for you. Acoustically it's great. I just don't like paying a premium price to get clack.

Tried the Epiphone and the Gibson side by side in a store a couple of times and I'm afraid from a tonal standpoint the Epiphone just didn't measure up to the Gibson at all. It didn't sound bad, just not nearly as rich and full. To put it succinctly, the Epiphone didn't fool me into believing it was a Gibson. From a build quality standpoint, the Epiphone seemed fine and played nice. I'm saving my dollars for the Gibson.

@@maraviyoso8473 of course it is hard to describe sound with words. I do the best I can. I would say the epiphone wasn’t quite as loud, didn’t have quite the sustain and didn’t have quite as much clarity in the high and low ends. Nothing I say will obviously be as good as trying for yourself.

I’ve had my J45 for a little over two years. Gotta say, it sounded amazing when I bought it new, but the sound has only improved since then, it just blooms. That being said they put a bone saddle on mine for some reason which is supposed to be on their ‘50s original model, perhaps a mismatch or that was what they had to work with at the time? So I swapped it for the TUSQ saddle like it’s supposed to have, and it added another 20% to the sound at least!

I've always love Gibson acoustic guitars. I own a 1959 J-200 in fact. However these J-45s are too pricy, especially when you consider there are better acoustic guitars on the market for much less money. I realize the J-45 is a classic and it deserves its place in the pantheon of classic acoustic guitars. By comparison one can acquire a Zager Zad-900 sunburst, similar to the new J-45s, for about $1,200.00 less. Despite some of the claims that Zager guitars are made in some third world country (a myth) they are quality guitars and absolutely gorgeous. The Gibson company has overpriced many of their quality guitars and consequently players are seeking quality elesewhere for less money.

goplad1- where is the Zager Zad-900 made? Also, what are some other brands & models that you think are better than the J-45 for much less money?
@goplad110 ай бұрын
@@LoneTinajaZager guitars are made in Nebraska U.S.A. There are many quality acoustic guitars available for under a thousand dollars. Even Martin and Taylor offer models in this price range. Like I said I like the Gibson J-45 but it's overpriced. Of course one can always find a secondhand J-45 for a bit less money.

@@eramars5699 Not really. A brand new Martin D-18 direct is $2,799 for gloss ($2,399 for satin) and a Gibson Standard J-45 is $3,149. You’re paying extra for ‘Gibson’ sound, if that’s you want though (I do)!
