I remember taking an elevator there in Atlanta where tourists had to pay to use it. It went to the top of a building to an observation deck. You could see Stone Mountain from up there.

That sound might have been a an MG set (Motor Generator) in the machine room. Which changes AC to DC to power the hoist motor, and controller.

i went to a hotel like that when i was 10 and i forgot the floor number and for some reason i thought it was on the highest level. so i got up there and couldnt breath it was so high up. so i went to the desk and asked if they could call my parents so they called them and said "we have ur child at the main desk can u plz come get her." and when my parents got there they started yelling at me cuz they thought i was in trouble :(

Was in the same one at DragonCon. Apparently one of them caught fire & stopped, trapping a few people inside. Well, thats what I was told by one of the Convention security.Guess Too many fat geeks in one Elevator.
