Brilliant lesson Chris Thanks. After 50 years of straight fiddle playing you've made the penny drop for me 🎻🎶🎻🎶🎻🎶🎻

I have your book and these videos are a great addition. Though I've played for decades, I'm just getting immersed in jazz techniques. Love it!

I LOVE swing fiddle. And while your video gives beginners a good start there is so much more that could be said of this unique style. Here are some thoughts I might mention: > Obviously swung 8ths (in a 2-1 ratio), as you mention (you could think of it as a 'skipping' rhythm). > Lots of chromaticism. In approach and passing notes, for example. > Lots of syncopation. > Beyond 'ghost notes', deliberatly skipping some notes, to let the music breathe. > Liberal use of short slides and shifts (a 'shift' is kind of like a sudden slide). > Use of off beat accents, where you really dig with the bow to get that 'crunchy' sound. Yes, the sound classical violinists work so hard to avoid - LOL.

@@MusicGurus thank you very much, its new for me to play the violin. i play guitar fo the last 30 years, i know all the scales and modes,On the violin, the fact that i was used to play with freted instrument did not help at first. i need to adjust the fine tuning of my fingers with my ears now, i try to get the bow hand thing naturaly by play with it all the times but i realy want and need to get some exercise to save time. thank you very much. what a fabulous instrument.
