"He earned his love through discipline, a thundering velvet hand; his gentle means of sculpting souls took me years to understand." One of the greatest lyrics of all time imho. I still get chills when I hear this song, and it reminds me of my own late father, may he also RIP. Dan, you are missed...you were truly one of the all-time greats. I hope you are still singing your beautiful songs in heaven with that one-of-a-kind voice, created and touched by God Himself.

Dan Fogelberg opened for my very first concert in ‘73. He was unknown the entire show until he played “Part of the plan” which was on most local station’s rotation. Fifty years later, I still retire to my basement studio and listen to his albums. His entire catalog is a must listen. Such insightful lyrics and wonderful melodies, highlighted by his mastery of guitar, piano and several other instruments. His expertise also comes through in the production quality. This was not unique to the times, but it is evident that it stands the test of time.

Aside from Dan's talented singing and songwriting gifts he knew his time was near. He and his wife put out a public announcement released after he died about the importance of being screened for Prostate Cancer. In it he said that he would still be alive had he started getting checked at age 50. He was blunt about the "dreaded digital exam" but said it was nothing compared to what he had gone through with the cancer. He's the reason I began getting checked yearly after I turned 50. Who knows how many lives he may have saved. Thank you for the music Dan. We miss you.

A wonderful reaction, young man. 🙂 Dan is an incredible singer, songwriter and performer. So take a deep dive. You won't be disappointed. He tragically died far too young of prostate cancer -- something he acknowledged at the end he could have easily avoided had he not been so squeamish about digital-rectal exams. He wanted others to know how deeply he regretted his mistake.

Fogelberg was brilliant. A multi-instrumentalist... and his voice - especially in his younger days when I saw him live - was a marvel. For another emotional masterpiece song, check out Souvenirs... and also his initial hit (he had about 20 top of the charts tunes) the faster-paces Part of the Plan. He died over a decade ago @ 56 from cancer.

Wow, Mason I don't watch many reaction videos but I Truly enjoyed seeing your reaction to this video, because it seems it struck you emotionally the way it did & still does myself and, it seems, many others judging by the comments here. The lyrics, the emotion Dan put into this song just makes my heart swell; I both relate to it and appreciate it deeply, having had a very musical father myself and growing up with musical brothers as well. And, although I struggle a bit with it as it is a challenging one, I also (attempt to) play it myself. So I just want to tell you how much I enjoyed seeing your sincere, gut reaction to this moving live performance I'd never before seen. Thank you for sharing this moment with us, centered around a well-deserved song that grabs your heart. (A similarly moving song that might merit your consideration to watch & react to is Don McLean's "Vincent", about the painter Vincent Van Gogh. I heartily recommend it.)

I heard somewhere online that if Dan Fogelberg could have only written one song, this would have been the one. He said it himself. I remember decades ago, I would buy one of his CDs at a time and be so anxious to listen to it. I was so impressed at how someone could have so many good songs. I wondered how it was possible. A great singer / songwriter. Listen to the studio version of this song. It is near perfection. He even pronounces the "T"s in words like fate, and wait. A rare combination of talent (songwriting, playing, singing, and storytelling). A great guy. Just F.Y.I., in his song "Along the Road", I think he play every instrument and sings (and even harmonizes himself I think). Wow. This is one of my favourite artists ever. Since you’ve never heard of him. I recommend a related artist Don McLean and his songs Auld Lang Syne and Vincent. You might also enjoy the song American Pie - which is about the “day the music died” when the Big Bopper, Buddy Holly and Jim Croce all died. As for me, I cannot listen to this song - ever - without cutting all of the onions. My band director in school was such an important person in my life, that every time I hear this, I think of him. Your reaction was lovely to see. I hope perhaps you’ll look at his other music as well. Lastly, I’ll recommend the song Longer by Dan here. As you’ll see, he’s not only a talented musician, but a gifted lyricist as well. Be well.

Dan Fogelberg is just incredible. And now I need to watch your American Pie react! I literally watched your reaction four times yesterday because I could just see on your face how the song affected you and it was amazing. It’s so cool to see younger artists expose themselves to the music I was exposed to as a small child. Between 1960-1980 the music just - exploded. And I had hippies for parents so I grew up with Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell, Crosby, Stills and Nash and of course, the lovely Mr Fogelberg here. This was the first video I watched of yours - and it got me to subscribe. So I won’t miss your future ones. Edit: I misunderstood - your reaction was to Vincent. I’m enjoying your channel.

First, Mason, are you a Scot? On to the music... Dan Fogelberg was a very basic, yet accomplished musician. Acoustic guitar, and that Voice... I term it rustic Inna good way as in straight from his Heart. Sorta like Robbie Burns put to tune. Unfortunately, he too died early as Mr Burns did. Your speaking obviously from your heart is appreciated by this old Geezer in USA. BLESS YOU.
