This was a 3hr LIVE digital concert for his fans during lockdown ✨🤍✨ 🆘 The song itself is from Starmania a Canadian-French cyberpunk rock opera written in 1976. 👼🏻 Gregory Lemarchal was a young French singer who was the inspiration for DIMASH to sing 🆘 “SOS d'un terrien en detresse" Diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at a young age, Gregory defined all odds and won the fourth series of the singing contest Star Academy. He became an overnight sensation in France and went on to have a successful career. He was known for "La voix d'un ange"- the voice of an angel. Gregory succumbed to his illness at the age of “23💔” This video is a tribute to his memory. 🥺😢😭💔❤️‍🩹❤️ So that there in no confusion as too “WHY DIMASH” sings this song. It is in the “Tribute to Gregory” and his message. The meaning of the lyrics in Gregory’s life are what holds Dimash’s heart✨🤍✨ THE STORY BEHIND 🆘 👼🏻”Angel Gregory" & Dimash SOS d'un terrien en detresse 🇫🇷 French with subtitles kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqHOg5l_hc56iJY IT’S WHERE DIMASH GETS HIS ✨“ANGEL WINGS”✨ The most impressive part is his ✨ “Honor & Spirit” ✨ ❤️2U&ALLU❤️🦌🦌💫🌎🕊️🇺🇸

Thank you so much for posting this link and info about Gregory. I had not heard this before. In the mid-1970’s I was a respiratory technician student. One of my first patients was a seventeen year old young man with cystic fibrosis. He asked me,this totally “green” naive girl,if he was going to die. This disease is horrible and treatment back then was vigorous physical therapy as well as frequent breathing treatments. Watching Gregory sing so beautifully knowing how damaged his lungs must have been at this point, just reduced me to tears. I’m still crying. What an amazing young man he was! And talk about irony…I was never blessed with the children I had hoped for. But about 10 years ago a DNA test I did(kind of for fun) revealed that I carry the gene for C.F.. So thank you mmartin1030 for introducing me to this awe inspiring young man. R.I.P. Gregory.💔

@@Ctkare4k9 Gregory had to sing, act and dance in order to win the second season of France's "Star Academy." He did it with just 25 percent of his lung capacity. I watched each episode as he bravely struggled--and successfully--to get through each of the tasks he was required to perform. I think every fan of Dimash should go to youtube and watch Gregory sing, "SOS", if nothing else. No wonder someone with Dimash's sensitivity was inspired to take on this song and sing it so passionately.

Yes. Your interpretation is spot on. The song is from a "lost soul". A feeling of hopelessness. Very deep and sad lyrics. With even deeper existential questions. Even though "If I never" is the DEARS theme song I think this song will be an iconic "DIMASH" cover.

Be sure to see mmartin's comment below which accurately communicates young singer and cystic fibrosis sufferer Gregory Lemarchal's brave journey as Dimash's original and primary inspiration for singing "SOS." Dimash became aware of Gregory's emotional performances of this song prior to Gregory's early death at age 23 while in the hospital awaiting a lung transplant and it left a deep impression. To compound that tragedy for Dimash was that his best friend, champion Olympic figure skater, Denis Ten, was murdered at the age of 25 by hoodlums stealing items off of his car. And then, during the pandemic, Dimash's cherished vocal coach died of Covid---and more recently the beloved grandfather who helped raise him died as well. All of which is a lot for someone still in his twenties to have endured. To top it all off, Daniel Belavoine, the singer who popularized the song in a French-Canadian rock opera in the 1970's (and was the inspiration for Gregory to perform it) died in a helicopter accident when he was still in his mid 30s. So much tragedy around a single song, and why Dimash sings it so passionately every single time.

I don't know if anyone told you why Dimash started singing this song. It was in memory of his friend, Denis Ten. He was an Olympic Ice skater that was stabbed to death when he surprised 2 car thieves. Denis and Dimash were close friends and if you see enough of Dimash's versions of this song, there are times he tears up while singing.

This song is from a French rock opera that Dimash started singing as a demo song back in his teens. He learnt to take singing visibly to heart from his idol, Lara Fabian and so if you want to experience some personal shock, you should listen her sing all her songs too. Both of these singers have progressed voluntarily into heart and soul responses, and have taken the value of music and singing into a totally new level for those of us who have been fortunate enough to find them.

For something different I suggest the Khazakh folk song Samaltau(Tokyo Jazz Festival 2020 or Digital Show 2021 version) , his vocalise(no lyrics) version of "Know" from Kiev(Arnau Tour 2020), Omir(MV, song written and composed by him), or his semi-recent performance of 'I'll Die for the Wind of the Mountains'(Armenian folk song) that he did during his concert in Yerevan earlier this year(there's a great fancam of it you'll find easily).

This was a brilliant reaction. His almost operatic singing voice and the notes he can reach are amazing, as is his breath control of the interchange into the higher octaves. I agree with you McFly. the way he wants to see the whole world from the big picture perspective to know what life is in its entirety and not from his limited view on the ground. He wants to be free of the earthly struggles and instead explore the metaphysical nature of the universe. To have metamorphosis, into angelic form where he will have protective wings around him. Freeing him from loss and damage.

This song is from a Rock Opera from the 70's, called Starmania, it is the lead character's low point in the show. Dimash has took this song and definitely breathed new life into it. This is one of the top 5 hardest French songs to sing. And his name is said Dee-mosh (like a mosh pit, not mashed potatoes). Obviously the song is about struggling with life, but I don't think it's about ending your life either. But songs are interpreted by the listener so I'm not going to say you are wrong.

This song is a pearl of the French songbook: It is a French-Canadian cyberpunk-rock opera called “Starmania”, written in 1976 by Michel Berger (France) and with lyrics by Luc Plamondon (Canada) and immortalized in the voices of Daniel Balavoine, Diane Dufresne and Gregory Lemarchal. The theme of the song is depression: In the 2021 version, Dimash faithfully and brilliantly presents a sentimental and melancholy interpretation! As the singing decisions follow the original structure of the song, which serves to show the psychological instability of the afflicted character: From the chest voice to the head voice and then to falsetto, the author sought to show a broad need to overcome a moment of despair and the pretense of accepting to reach a higher perspective! Dimash, currently at his concerts, dedicates this song to his friends and acquaintances who have departed this world! Original version - Daniel Belavoine - kzbin.info/www/bejne/b5y9pneeqrmerqc

For such a young man his ability to do this is just phenomenal. He always gives his all to his songs. McFly...the emotions that this song evokes in you are just as relevant and personal as anyone else's. The nature of true art is such that it brings out different feelings in different people and even different emotions at different times in the same person...based on each person's life experiences. The general mood of the song is specific. The backstory is definitely very important to understand it better. The inspiration of and interpretation by the artist is their's... But a true and great artist like Dimash and his performance would bring out your own feelings. It should open up the listener's heart to feel what they feel. Dimash does that superbly...he invests so much of himself in his songs through his voice and emotions. And that in turn is what makes his listeners and fans connect to their own feelings, emotions, memories, life experiences and such... I love Dimash and his art 😍🥰💕

🎼👍The lyrics are open to a very wide range of interpretations, as is what Johnny (the character who sings the song) does afterwards; that aspect is left completely open by the framing and conclusions of the opera's story arcs. That said, if you watch the punk/rock feel opera this song comes from, and the moment the song is sung, the lyrics will make complete sense. The one thing that isn't ambiguous is that Johnny really (well, fictionally of course!) is at the bleakest moment a human could possibly encounter. Iirc there are over 70s songs in the opera, and they're all great, though SOS is one of the standouts. The story line is extraordinarily prescient, perfectly distilling the times we seemed to be heading towards today. There's a full video of a production of it from the 1980s I think, with the Johnny Rockfort character who sings a bunch of songs including SOS played by a really great singer, though I forget his name (Norm, or something like that?), and there's been various productions of it since, including a brand new major one that began touring in the last year. (That said, I don't know if the latter is still happening, or how widely it's being performed, or how much justice it does to the original.) Peace and love from the UK. 💖

Great art, in my opinion, leave some interpretation up to the consumer. And I think this piece does a good job of that.

@@mcflyjp 🕊💖Yes. The same basic dichotomy that arises in SOS is present in another song that I'm hoping you'll consider reacting to if you've never seen performances of it before, or at least the particular performance of it (arguably the greatest performance of any song at any time, according to many), if you haven't seen that particular performance. I link to it below. ---- First, about the song, Hurt. Quoting Wikipedia: > the overall meaning of the song is disputed. Some listeners contend that the song acts as a ... note written by the song's protagonist, as a result of his depression, while others claim that it describes the difficult process of finding a reason to live in spite of depression and pain ---- Second, about the particular performance. Quoting the creator of the song, Trent Reznor of the band Nine Inch Nails, reflecting his profound respect for Johnny Cash's performance of it: > that song isn't mine anymore ---- Finally, quoting the description by NME of the top video in their 2011 list of their pick of the top 100 music videos of all time: > #1 Hurt > Released: 2002 > Director: Mark Romanek > The montage of shots of Cash served a poignant purpose at the time; after Johnny’s death seven months later it became even more powerful. A fitting audiovisual epitaph. > Best bit: Those opening chords and that opening line ”I hurt myself today / to see if I still feel” - near perfection. > kzbin.info/www/bejne/rKWUgaqco81opsU ---- To be clear, this video leads me to ball my heart out every time I've watched it, with or without a reactor (which latter is how I first discovered it). Likewise, most people I know cry rivers. So if you're not ready to open floodgates, perhaps don't watch it. But it is a testament to Reznor's skill in writing lyrics that are wide open to interpretation, and to Cash's skill in interpreting it a way in which it had never before been interpreted -- and will never be again. I say "never again" because even Johnny's interpretation, while clearly wildly different from Trent's own interpretation of his own deliberately open to interpretation song, is itself open to interpretation. And to layer on top of that, there's how listeners interpreted Johnny's interpretation when the video was first uploaded, and then 3 months later when June Cash passed away, and then 4 months later again, when Johnny Cash passed away. If it's the first time you've seen it, then your interpretation of Johnny's interpretation will likely also be colored by your interpretation of what I've just written about it. ---- *Great art taps into the infinite space of possibilities, and opens that space within us. Cry like a baby, and bathe in the innocence and vulnerability of heartfelt experience; it always does us good.* Peace and love from the UK. 🕊💖

This is from a rock opera. I'd like to hear or watch the entire production some day. Then I'd be more sure of the intent. Going only from this one song, I can see it as deep depression and possibly thoughts of suicide. Whether the actor killed himself at the end of the play, I don't know. The "Sleep, child, sleep," could mean he was quietly saying a final good bye to his child or he was talking to himself as a child and encouraging himself to rest and let his negative thoughts go.

This song is from the French Canadian rock opera Starmania done in the 80's or 90's. The main character sings the song as he is going through a bout of depression. So your perception is pretty much on target.

Welcome to Dimash reactions. Such a beautiful world to inhabit. I would suggest that as you interrupt his singing--and we know that doing so is part of the point--roll back the clock five or so seconds each time so you can ramp up again. Rather than constantly breaking in and continuing on OR chopping it up. That would be my suggestion of watching Dimash reactors for a year now. Cheers.

Adagio a Lara Fabian song that Dimash has now made his own it is sensational together with Across Endless Dimensions from a film called Creators The Past that Dimash sang the theme tune to all on his own despite the writers trying several singers and bands that could not do the song justice. You have to hear the ending as it’s amazing

My *actual* favourite version of this song is the first time he did it - as an unknown foreign contestant on a Chinese singing competition where if I understand correctly, foreigners were never invited/never got far. They didn't know him, and the clip of his performance of SOS includes a ton of cuts to the judges' (and audience's) reactions to being faced with Dimash singing SOS, lol. That's a distraction from his singing, in a way, but... it's also amazing to witness so many people sharing a very special collective experience of discovering that Someone Like Dimash Exists on this Planet, lol. And while I think real Dimash fans prefer this one (I just dabble in Dimash; lots of the stuff he sings doesn't really appeal to me except that his voice is SO INCREDIBLE), or the Slavic Bazaar version, because he's developed further as a vocalist... I prefer some of the stylistic choices he made in that first performance. SOS is the Dimash song I will *always* stop to listen to when I see a reactor doing it (any version of it). It's an absolutely magical song in his hands, and there's never been a singer who could sing it like he can (I've seen videos of singers who, before Dimash, were considered to be capable of singing it... they do a damn good job, in a universe before Dimash existed... but now he exists, and this song is *his*). It never fails to bring tears to my eyes and consume me in shivers.

Excellent interpretation!. Seems to me that mostly, most react only to the voice and use the words as reference points. Some talk about the meaning but not to the extent that you did. You gave good commentary without getting bogged down and repetitive. Thank you very much! I'm thinking you might enjoy Olympico. Composition exceptionel by Igor Krutoy specifically for Dimash. If you want to hear a certain type of song just ask the Dears. There's always something to recommend if you ask!
