There's a real emotional reason for the layering. About feeling so many things at once and being pulled in different directions when you are in the depths of grieving. She has a lot of interviews that give insight into the sound. I was divorced around the same time and I can't even comprehend HOW she put my exact feelings into a sound. The layers were really the only way to communicate something so complex. It's cool to hear your take on the instrumental and production side, as I usually focus on the vocals.

Love this song! Some of my other favorites from Chemistry are: Skip This Part, Down To You, Rock Hudson, Magic & Favorite Kind of High ❤ there are some sad songs bc she was obviously in a lot of pain going through a rough divorce, but there are some songs that aren’t sad too.
