Generally, it's an internal dialogue where main Pablo locks himself in because of anxiety and experiences that made him fear opening up, and rapper Pablo narrating to the things leading up to unlocking himself. Pablo stated this in Rappler (media): He said that the release of “La Luna” is his way of confronting his personal battles. “Its focus is mostly about myself, my feelings, my beliefs, how I view the world and how it affects me,” he said. On the song’s message of self-love, Pablo said: “We all have flaws and we need to accept those imperfections because those are what make us who we are.” “To be mentally healthy, we need to come to terms with ourselves, that what we feel is valid. We shouldn’t suppress it just so we can please everyone and avoid confrontation. There will always be black in white and white in black. We should maintain balance within us. That’s how we remain sane and alive,” he added.

Hi Jacob! Thanks for reacting to this one! I was really waiting for your reaction. Yes it has NF and Eminem vibes (he's a big fan of both as well as of a lot of well-respected Filipino rappers as well). As for the message, simply put it's about an inner turmoil within himself. One side being his usual timid self who gets along with people (and the one that often gets hurt with criticisms), and the other one that he tries to hide because he think the world doesn't really accept this part of him--and both of them ARE him, it's just there are sides that he shows to the public and sides that he hides. The MV has ENGLISH CAPTIONS so you can watch it again and make your own interpretation. It's very interesting because the message of this song and the music video EXACTLY REFLECTS HOW THIS SONG IS RELEASED IN THE FIRST PLACE. You don't really get to see THIS side of Pablo in his work with SB19 as SB19 Pablo. This reflects THE PABLO that is himself. Although Pablo enjoys a wide range of genres, this is the type of music he vibes and identifies a lot with. And he thinks/knows that NOT a lot of people really enjoy this side of him because it's not the Pablo they see on SB19--it's not SEJUN (his former stage name). We think this one has been prepared for so long. He initially debuted as "Sejun" but he asked to change that when the year 2020 started, officially changing it to "PABLO" during their "Ikalawang Yugto" renaissance (it's in the video for Ikalawang Yugto). That was also the time when SB19's approach was revamped, officially making their stance known along with the release of "WHAT".

Thanks for the RV Jacob. I know you mostly discussed about the musicality and technical parts of the song which i appreciate. But to be honest, it would have been much better if the message of the song was also analyzed (since lyrics were provided already anyway). The lyricism goes hand in hand with the music and the visuals. A dissected reaction (tech RV only) veers away from having the full experience. A big chunk of the charm and mystery of the song got lost somehow. I hope a more comprehensive RV will be uploaded too. Cheers, man. 😎

I agree that it feels like a movie. It's all about the man's internal struggle. Man in Shackles vs Man of the Moon (lol I dunno I just call him that). Man in shackles doesn't want to leave his comfort zone. He is afraid of taking a risk and afraid what others might say. Thus, he couldn't reach his full potential. Man of the Moon is that part of the person, the beast that wants to be unleashed. He's braver and more aggressive. He wants to be himself and show the world what he's capable of regardless of other people's expectations. In the end, the man in chains holds the keys. Only he can release himself from his shackles.

He imprisoned himself (his talent) because he don't want to be vulnerable with the world's unfairness, cruelty, and judgements and that leads him to have conflict with the other side of him (inner self) ...the one who's convincing him to get out of that shackle and be strong to face changes and see what he can really do. To reach his full potentials even though there are doubters.....but the imprisoned him don't want trouble..just want to be alone and somehow stay in his comfort zone. Finally he gave in and said ok "let's start the show" (nagbukas ng pulang kurtina) Meaning he's now willing to face the world and share his talent. He'll gonna keep on grinding (head down and work hard)and update his timeline. That beat drop "binigay ang susi sa kanya" he's referring to himself... he's holding his own key 🗝️ and once he discovered his true self and his true sound/music... he'll come out of his shell and he'll use that key to free himself just like the last scene on the video he unlock the shackle himself. I love how you capture NF vibes and the cinematic/movie feels, Pablo said he has those elements in mind when he created this. He's a huge fan of NF. The song was about that person's (in shackles) dilemma of wanting to "play safe" stay in the comfort zone bec he doesn't wanna disrupt what was norm, he's afraid knowing the world out there isn't good and that he is not good enough. It's like he's having an internal monologue with the other side of him (one wearing black) who is convincing him to just fuck off, don't over think just go out there, explore, and show what "they"got. By the end of the mv, the black-robe guy gave the key to the man in shackles and we can see that he unlocked it.
