I've seen Volbeat live multiple times. I know the vibrato in his voice is natural. It may be a little more emphasized digitally, but I know he can naturally produce different octaves on his own.

I don't know enough to know about vocal effects used, though I think Michael could probably pull off most of the sound naturally. I do know this song really took off for me on subsequent listens, and now I can't get enough of those vocal melodies. :D

The scale that’s being used is Phrygian Dominant. It’s a mode of Harmonic minor. Phrygian Dominant is what gives songs an Egyptian sound. If anyone wants to learn about the Phrygian Dominant mode, this song is simple enough to be a good starting point. The riff in the verse has a little chromatic thing in there that’s not actually in Phrygian Dominant so if it’s tripping up anyone trying to learn it by ear, that’s why.
