Written by a lonely, exasperated 15yo Dany near the end of their 6 week stay at Berklee College of Music in Boston. Dany missed her friends from home to point where she was in tears during one of the band's blogs, and she (and her sisters) spent their school days in classrooms isolated from each other and surrounded by English-only speakers. At the time all three girls were fluent in English and could easily recite written or memorized text, but Dany was hesitant and tongue tied when she had to express her own thoughts, as if her brain still hadn't adapted to working in 100% English mode and she struggled to translate her Spanish thoughts into English speech. Despite that, she was able to clearly express her thoughts and feelings into the lyrics of a timeless song that remains one of the band's most requested live performances.

It's THE Dany's Song. She wrote it during their Berklee' summer "camp" in 2015. She was very homesick and she had to write a song as a lesson. she wrote this awsome song

The Warning Performed at the MTV VMA Music awards this last tuesday. Performing 2 songs, More and Evolve, were at an entirely new level. Dany's grit in her voice was grittier. Pau's drumming was on fire. Ale's bass at the top of it's game. The Warning showed the entire world what great music is and how to perform it. In the breakdown section of Evolve, Pau takes control, commanding the crowd. Definately The Warnings most explosive performance to date. Check out The Warning Evolve 2023 VMA's, It is a MUST SEE!!!

I have seen them do this song a few times now, and each time was special to witness. Dany is letting us see her vulnerabilities briefly, and we can't help but get emotional along with her, as she does. One of their first songs and still relevant today, and for a long time to come. 💖

this is Dany's song... Ale and Pau accompany with only their instruments... no harmonies or backing vocals... the blacked out solo beginning and ending with Dany alone in the spotlight is beautiful and quite fitting for this song and what it represents... Dany wrote this when the girls were at Berklee Music College in Boston attending the summer session they offer(ed)... she got very homesick and also had a homework task to write a song... she hadn't any ideas, time was running out, and being homesick was devastating... she did a vlog about being homesick... afterward she realized she could harness the emotions and pain she was feeling to write her song... i haven't heard what grade she got for it but many of us hope it was an A+... Dany has also stated several times that when she writes a song, it is from her heart and whatever emotions she is feeling at the time... so here we are enjoying this truly heartfelt song of loneliness and heartache... speaking of Berklee Music College, their concert at "Liceo" (Spanish for "high school") had multiple purposes... for one purpose, the story is that they needed something to submit to Berklee showing Ale's and Pau's chops and how well they played their instruments... this because both of them were less than 15 years old which is/was the age cut off for the summer program they were wanting to attend... so each of them chose a song to show off their talents... IIRC, those songs were "Hysteria" for Ale, "Everlong" for Pau, and "Crazy Train" for Dany but i may be off on those... old brain and all that stuff LOL anyway, apparently BMC accepted their submissions because all three girls attended at the same time... while there they did vlogs to send to Ellen DeGeneres to keep her and her show up to date on how they were doing while at BMC... this because Ellen and Target gave each of the girls a check to help pay for them to attend the summer session at BMC... In this performance, I love how the lighting director gave Dany the spot light by herself at the beginning, then again right at the end. Nicely done. Ages 15, 13, and 10 when Dany wrote this at Berklee in Boston. I agree with you about solos not being flashy and making them fit the song. David Gilmore was fantastic at that, Dany does it really well too. This song is a lament. A shredding hammer-on solo would not fit here. Bring back the melody in the solo. Dany does that in Narcisista and a few other songs as well. That is a technique my jazz solo instructors drilled into me. Gives people a hook back into the song, repetition will keep the listener engaged and interested. Keep grabbing random stuff. I have found that there is no correct way to discover The Warning. Thanks for your continued coverage of these three sisters that seem to have grabbed so many of us old rockers.

A 15 year old Dany was feeling homesick towards the end of their 6 weeks stint at Berklees in summer of 2015. On top of that she had a new song to submit the following day as part of homework. And she had nothing ready; not even in the mood to create anything. Totally down but not out Dany composed When I'm Alone through that night. The reason this song is so special to her. Last June in Madrid she somehow managed to hold back her tears when the Spanish crowd joined in to sing When I'm Alone in English. So much so that at the end an anxious Pau asked her whether she was okay while Ale looked on with concern.

I discovered TW just over a year ago and went to their show in Denver this spring. Had a blast with the TWA in line waiting to get in to the venue and did the M&G and the sisters are so engaging. This was the jar song on this night and I was absolutely thrilled when it was selected. There’s a lot of testimonials that Survive was the song from the 2017 TedX that hooked them into being a fan but for me it was this song. I wish I could explain it but there is something about it that speaks to me and it obviously still means a lot to Dany. TW, especially Dany, thrive off an energetic crowd and when the audience nails their part in the sing along parts, it means the world to the band and they reciprocate by going even harder.

This implies that you have not yet watched their TEDx 2017. The Warning, aged 15, 13 & 12, were invited back to Univ. of Nevada after their 1st TEDx at the same venue in 2016 became a major hit. The girls played 3 originals from their 1st album XX Century Blood released an year earlier. The session was a mix of talking about their journey till then & playing Unmendable, When I am Alone & Survive. I suggest that you react to TEDx 2017 which is about 18 mins. long before doing Survive from Teatro. That Survive in 2017 has been the start of The Warning journey for numerous members of The Warning Army. When we watch When I am Alone & Survive in 2017 and then again in 2022 at Teatro we can grasp the extent of their evolution. Yes, they have matured as individuals into consummate professionals and this development is expected. But what has also augmented that process is the absolute top of the line instrument they use now. In 2017 Dany played a Les Paul with a basic pedal board. Ale a shortened Mustang bass. And Pau used a hired kit I believe. Luis didn't have the team & funds for his daughters then. Fast forward to Teatro in 2022. Their bespoke equipment is a dream for thousands of musicians across the world. Ale's signature 5 string Spector bass, Dany's customized PRS with Linus 6 pedalboard & Pau's DW with Sabian cymbals, Vic Firth sticks & Remo skins. Now they have a professional team with their own equipment shipped to different venues. Most of us believe the girls should redo their old albums after talking to Jason Flom of Lava.

Nice Reaction! I agree with you on the guitar solo on this song and in general. The guitar player for Nightwish does the same kind of solo's also. If a guitar player wants to shred and show their skill they can have an extended solo outside of a song and give the rest of the band a break. Eddie Van Halen used to do that and boy did he shred!

I’ve been emotionally connected to this song from the first listen years ago when I first discovered them (an IG story with a singing drummer had me searching and finding their 2017 TedX performance). This is a perfect, old school rock song. You mentioned The Wonder Years. I lived them growing up listening to those classic rock songs when they were new. Boston. Cheap Trick. Queen. Clapton, Gilmour, Angus. Solos back then were melodic, not necessarily technical. Rock fell into being formulaic where every release had a guitar or a sax solo. I find it refreshing that DPA write songs with what the song needs, not what’s expected. Great reaction guys!

Another great, thoughtful, and entertaining reaction from you guys on this one. Exactly on point about the guitar solo - it mimics the melody of the song, adds to it without distracting from it, and is one of those solos you can hum every note after hearing it. Dany sheds the gritty rock vocals she has grown into with a surprising vulnerable intro that totally entranced the crowd. As far as asking for suggestions what to do next, the Teatro Metropolitan show has been the gold standard of live Warning performances for a year now, but last week, the VMA awards performance has The Warning at the next tier and milestone in their career. Totally new look, more swagger and confidence, and a bigger production budget. More professional than ever in every way and well worth your time.

Funny story about the Wonder Years. I always assumed the show was old, even when it was in fact brand new; I figured it had been filmed in the era it was set in, when my parents were kids. (In my defense, I never actually watched it, so I only knew it from promos and the opening credits; and also, I didn't know it was in color, because or television set was black and white.)

This song is from the XXI blood album their first full length album and in my humble opinion, is some of their best work to date will always be for me a definition of their sound regardless of where they choose to go in the future. The girls were quite young and worked their tails off on this album and in trying to stay independent released it with the help of family and fans with go fund me donations. Some live songs from this album "Black holes" live@ Dakota bar a song about addiction sung from the addict's point of view and written by Pau when she was 13 "River's soul" from the same show "Shattered Heart" same show," Copper Bullets" from the same show it is all good! The official video XXI blood is also worth checking out as well cool song and message! If you would like to check out a live performance of something from their first EP "escape the mind" "Take me down" live @ Dakota bar I have read that Ale wrote this one when she was 10? if so wow! They've done quite a few songs acoustically in various settings and aced them. Ironically, the one that I think was a miss was a power ballad, The End, and that was because the guitar solo cannot be played on an acoustic guitar. It's a beautiful, melodic solo that's at most 15 seconds long, but the song really suffers for losing it. It could be done on a violin or viola, but none of them play those instruments. Dull Knives, one of their hardest rockers, worked well and had a bit of a Beethoven feel with Pau on piano and Dany singing.

Definitely you should listen to the full versions of Evolve and More from the VMAs. Evolve is even better than it was at Teatro Metropolitan (not that surprising as it's a year later, but there are other reasons why), and More is their most recently released song that postdates TM. They played this song in Boston in 2022, and Dany sounded even more inspired than usual, not at all to my surprise.

I think vocal melody guitar non-solos are fine depending on the song. It works here, it's fine, and not everything should be super-shreddy, but it's also the reason people say "Nirvana killed the guitar solo," because _everybody_ abandoned original guitar solos and replaced them with the vocal melody. And then eventually bands quit doing that as well and just sat on the bridge.

I'm thankful for that. I grew up with what is now called Classic Rock. I didn't care for a lot of that music because of the long, and often seemingly gratuitous guitar solos. I much prefer a good riff and good vocals.
