4 scores and 7 volumes ago I had a dream. A dream about cute kick ass anime girls who all things turning into guns. It grew on us and we reacted to it and came to love it and then the guy making the music liked us because we were also musicians and could truly appreciate his brilliant craft. Now we sit as spokespersons for the RWBY soundtracks and life was good. And also a gun. That was a weird runaway joke but just wanted to Say thanks to you lot for the enjoyable reactions and well done lyric videos.

I am so grateful for the music Jeff, Casey, and everyone else who had helped make it over the years. I was 15 when I first listened to the volume one opening and I had no idea what I was doing with my life at the time. The music is the reason I started watching RWBY and how I got inspired by Monty Oum. But before that I was depressed most of my life, I always thought how useless I was and how unimportant I thought my life was. Soon after I started watching RWBY I kept thinking to myself, "keep moving forward, I can do it!" Keeping my head up no matter what gets thrown at me was what got me through most of it. Seeing Monty's dedication and determination was what I strived to be from then on. This show and the people surrounding it gave me a purpose, a goal to chase after. And as of today I have been accepted to my dream college to fulfill the goal that I have set for myself. I give my thanks to this amazing show, the amazing creators, and all of you.

I'm also really really happy that you've done pieces of the score too, because Alex's work is absolutely phenomenal! Further, I'm a HUGE proponent of the idea that some of the soundtrack's vocal songs are absolutely enhanced and *should* be listened to combined with some of the score lead up. Red Like Roses Part 2 is the biggest one, to me; that song just isn't the same without the strings leading up to it. War is absolutely 100% another one. On its own, it's an excellent piece, but it just hits even stronger when it's directly attached to ...Then You Trained Us.

Love to see the appreciation for Fear, my favorite RWBY end-credit song - and from a series that had both Divide and Nevermore.
@Pablo360able3 жыл бұрын
I think part of the reason Fear is so good is that it's backed up by the most thematically-consistent volume in RWBY, which comes about in part because of the new writers (counterintuitively enough). I know that Fear is a bop even without that, but I feel like having that tone in the volume might have helped Jeff with the composition, maybe, a little? IDK I'm blowing smoke.

The whole discussion about adding emotion into songs reminds me of something I heard before for either Cold or Indomitable, probably both, where Casey had to get all the tears out before they could get the final takes. And speaking of those songs, I heard them both before I finally ended up at a psychiatrist and started depression medication, and I was not prepared the first time I heard them afterwards, totally broke me for a few minutes.
@SirsMadamsEntertainment4 жыл бұрын
Adam Peterson yep if I remember the conversation we had with Casey, she had to listen to “indomitable” for something like 20 times to process it so she wasn’t a total wreak while trying to record it
@SuperiorPosterior4 жыл бұрын
Adam Peterson I know that feeling. I had been in a long bout of depression for about 3 years when I finally gathered enough courage to see a therapist and get it fully diagnosed. This pandemic has prevented me from going to sessions, but even after only two months of sessions a lot of RWBY music hits different. Like, while my situation isn't anything close to Weiss', Mirror Mirror Part II's beginning describes my hesitancy to seek help rather well. "My life is comfy, so what right do I have to complain?" But now I know that I do have that right. My mom died on April first when I was 13. My dad was falsely accused and sent to prison when I was 2. When my aunt adopted me, my uncle used that kindness as an excuse for mental and emotional abuse, to the point I was actually happy when he kicked me out. Seeking help isn't a sin. Finding joy in anime and friendship in fandom don't make those feelings and friends "fake." A friend online is just as real as a friend IRL. I had given up looking for a job before I got help, but now I've held a job for the past 6 months, much longer than the 3-6 week odd jobs I had been lucky to come across. I can do this. *You* can do this! After all, this life is mine.
@adampeterson28284 жыл бұрын
@@SuperiorPosterior That first verse of MMpt2 was a pretty big wow moment for me, actually that's not quite right, more like the start of a very long period of realizations, but Weiss' whole musical backstory of isolation and self-loathing is almost a comforting thing for me, as messed up as it sounds. Not that I'm glad that other people are in this situation too, of course, but the knowledge that you aren't alone, that other people have struggled and recovered from this sort of thing. It can't have been the first sign of that sort, but for some reason that's the one that really got through to me. Thats probably part of why I latched onto RWBY as much as I have, it's not perfect, but the combination of the writers and musicians somehow still combine to make these characters stories impactful. I'm sorry you had to go through that, but its awesome that, whether forced or not, you got out of that shitty situation and are finding ways to make things better for yourself. We can indeed do this. I always feel like i'm oversharing in these sorts of comments, but I realized recently that this is exactly the sort of thing my therapist encourages, even if its to random cool people on the internet instead of family members. As you said, this being the internet doesn't invalidate the fact that you're an awesome person that was willing to have this conversation with me, so thank you for taking the time to not just read, but reply too. And thank you to S&M also, for being the people that are cool enough for me to not feel too self-conscious and anxious about this sort of thing, if you end up reading this whole wall of text. So anyways I just spent over an hour trying to figure out how to express my deep inner emo-ness and need food, so I wish you all a good day. (edit: hopefully its obvious enough that that's not intended as a jab at anyone, I do think its important to be able to laugh at yourself.)
@KikiYushima4 жыл бұрын
Indomitable was a huge balm for me personally when it came out. Honestly, I attached _hard_ to the 30 second clip from the ending episode of V6. I _knew_ that song was going to be something special and it _was._ I was _bawling_ to it on the third listen when I finally understood the lyrics. I'm a writer and have been for twenty years. I write out _everything_ by hand and it resulted in me getting tendinitis. I had to limit my writing time or wear a brace when I did write, but I managed to live with it. Two years ago, I fractured my wrist in a way that just _completely_ fucked over my right forearm. Whenever I wrote for more than an hour, I ended up in complete and utter _agony._ Indomitable came out and it reminded me that I'm a creator and I shouldn't let anything keep me down. That song _literally_ made me pick myself up out of the year-long depressive episode caused by that wrist fracture. I started on a _huge_ research project for a RWBY AU that's so dear to my heart. I didn't start writing until this year again and I'm still struggling with it. But I put my perfectionism aside and tell myself to just enjoy the process of creation again. My prose is abysmal but my characterisation is enough to carry the bad prose.

Honestly, this soundtrack surprised me a lot but in the _best_ possible way. I have a full ranking of _every_ song an the order I like it in as well as the order I like the soundtracks in. (I exclude remixes because those just aren't my personal taste and acoustics since I just feel like they're never as good as the original. There is _one_ exception to that rule, though....) On my first listen, I was just like, "Eh, maybe it'll overtake V6 for third place." After I sat with it more, it was just like "MOVE OVER, BITCHES, _MY CITY NOW."_ I rank songs 0-10 based on personal enjoyment (a number of factors) and since most of the soundtracks are within ten points of each other either way (70 for V5 being the lowest, V7 being the highest at 90), I think it's a level enough playing field. Anything above a 7 is basically _beyond_ exceptional, so most rankings are within the 40-50 range. V7 is a whopping 64/90. V4 was originally the highest at 49/80. It took a bit for the songs to grow on me, but I absolutely _love_ them. The funniest part I was _completely certain_ that Hero would be my absolute favorite. Turned out to be the I May Fall acoustic (my first and _only_ 9) followed by Brand New Day. I did _not_ expect to latch onto that little duwop song so much, but it turned out to be my absolute _favorite_ V7 original. (Hero is my number three, so I wasn't _too_ far off at least lol) I doubt you care, but if you're wondering, This Life Is Mine and Indomitable are my top two.

I kinda wonder if it's because they're so leitmotif-heavy, cause they don't seem to recognize (or if they do they never mention it) the individual character's themes. Like, Fear has Oscar's leitmotif all over it and it only got a passing mention? And those two tracks (and Free Ride and a Show also) jump themes very VERY rapidly and so it might be too hard to follow? Not entirely sure what their reasoning is.

@thatname44514 жыл бұрын
I actually think that Casey is a soprano, her voice is light and the timbre is brillant too, if she sounds better in the mids, I think is because she uses a more balanced mix in that place, but when she go to the highs, she uses too much chest, a example of that would be Hwasa of mamamoo, or Solar of Mamamoo.
