Not even maybe before 2005 that’s recorded I’ve seen him at least 12 times since that any given Thursday show and he’s been better and better each time. And as professional studio guitarist myself I wouldn’t say a best solo there is no best solo only great work. Just like comparing guitar players there’s so many goats. He’s the only guy I’ve seen in ten years that has gotten better every single year. My generation is lucky to have him. He’s also the only guy Rene Martinez wanted to work with and if you don’t know who that is 🤷🏻‍♂️
@inchskater
@inchskater 4 жыл бұрын
@@keithremedy I would agree with you regarding his versatility. But if you want to hear all out blues jams I think there were better times to see him live. I feel like he settled down a bit which is absolutely fine but might be less satisfying for some guitarists listening.

the part at 6:20 can be explained as an E minor pentatonic lick rather than D minor, the notes played exist in both scales. The chords in that particular section go from A major to E (E Major being the relative major key to C#minor). So if you're thinking of the tune in the context of E major, shifting between the E major and E minor pentatonic scale makes a lot of sense, as in blues it is common to shift between the minor and major tonalities. The E minor pentatonic sounds particularly good over the A and E major chord (it's like a IV I in the key of E)

That was so informative and I will incorporate this into my playing..I think John Mayer is talent that comes along only once in a lifetime....He can sing, write, and solo incredibly.. Anyone of those three can be a career in music.,and he’s got all three! His playing with Dead and Company has also been a joy to see and hear...Thanks for this wonderful tutorial and I love the tone and wood grain on your PRS guitar... you play from the heart and is a pleasure to listen to..

That little minor pentatonic half step up trick is a great way to build a feel of tension before resolving....which makes a resolve to a root note or a major 3rd even sweeter. Its like it makes your ears parched and thirsty for a drink...and then you get that sonic glass of ice cold lemonade at the resolution, and it just makes it so much more satisfying.

Great stuff. I noticed many guitars hanging in background. Well done. Many people neglect to use the "hanging tune" tuning, when they store guitars in this fashion. And as a result, the frets become very fretsifonic. Just a reminder to all. Hooray and good day!
