I drove from RI to the fair in my new 1964 Chevelle with my girlfriend (wife now), my younger brother, my mom and her mom. I forget what kind of car we rode in during the tour. I almost opted for a new Mustang that year. Those were certainly good days. I was 18.

I was there with my family. My father was a musician at The Greek Pavillon and we visited many times. It was a great World’s Fair. I was 11 and I remember AT&T showcasing a phone with the ability to see each other during the call!! Now it is common place.

Some of my earliest memories are riding in a car at the Magic Skyway looking at all those strange and somewhat frightening dinosaurs :) I must have been two or three when I was there with my family. The other thing I remember was the Skydome Spectacular.

I was 11 when the Fair opened in 1964. We lived about ten minutes from the fair. I went there with the family about 20 times over the two years. Rode the Magic Skyway a few times as well as the GM Futurama. I loved the cars at Ford but I liked the GM ride better as it was a bit more mature.. Ford’s Disney ride catered to younger kids. Some of my happiest memories.

I was lucky enough to go both years. Ford and GM exhibits were the best. I remember some of this video with the cars but not a lot as a young teen. RCA exhibit was a big deal with people going in to see themselves on Video or Tv as they called it then. Great time to be young.

I believe my grandparents went to the fair and saw this thing! As you probably know, the dinosaur segment is the only part of the ride that survived the move to Disneyland. They are now part of the Primeval World diorama along the Disneyland Railroad!

7:00, the Stegosaurus fighting the Tyrannosaurus Rex is an allusion to a famous scene in The Rite of Spring from Fantasia.
@devanhinskey90013 жыл бұрын
Yup. Also, the “Rite of Spring” sequence was originally planned to end with the arrival of early man and the discovery of fire. However, this was scrapped because Walt was afraid of offending religious groups. I like to think that the cavemen in the Ford Magic Skyway as a realization of that original concept.

"Showplace of the '60s!" At the age of 10, I got to sit at the wheel of a new Mustang convertible to go through this ride, and that was probably the most exciting part - certainly it's what I remember the best. I do vaguely recall the brontosaurus chewing on some weeds, and the finale (shown here only as an illustration) stirs a bit of memory too. This was when the future was going to be marvelous through the constant innovations of technology.

They were neat. I was a kid when my family attended the 1964/65 NY World's Fair and it was a very happy experience. I suspect that we don't have these fairs anymore because corporations and countries no longer want to spend the money to build them. I also think that the threat of terrorism would be a big security concern in this dangerous world that we have today. It was a more innocent and safer time in America in the 1960s when I was growing up. Never even heard of terrorism in those days.

My family was in line for this exhibit, as a 9 year old, I was so excited to see a Mustang coming down the line, but, being there was 5 of us, we had to wait, a single man, behind us, went ahead, got in the back seat of the Mustang, pushed the front passenger seat down, and put his legs up. I thought he was the coolest man who ever lived! We had to wait for the Galaxie, I have wondered about him ever since....

Mauricio Ledesma: The cavemen in Magic Skyway are not the same ones in Spaceship Earth at Epcot. Once the Fair closed, those cavemen were not reused anywhere. However, the dinosaur scenes were moved to Disneyland in California and added to the railroad attraction. There's a long tunnel you go through behind Tomorrowland that includes the dinosaurs (Primeval World) and a diorama of the Grand Canyon.

like those flashing overhead, to anywhere in space. Perhaps some day we will drive jet powered vehicles over weather controlled highways in the sky, like the spiraling tubes around you. But all such dreams begin in the minds of man. Men of vision faith and imagination, men of science and industry, education and the arts. As we have seen along the magic skyway, man is always on the move. Searching and dreaming beyond the horizons

At the end of the ride, you were in a future world, Walt Disney gave us this message for the future of cars! We've come a long way on our journey with man Here we are on the threshold of tomorrow Man's achievements in Science and Industry have carried us here. And like the blast off of a space vehicle for the moon and beyond, Man's achievements, have challenged our hope and rocketed our dreams beyond the horizons. Perhaps some day we'll be riding rocket ships

Walt Disney had Imagineers work on the exhibits for this World's Fair while he bought property in Florida for his Florida Project that died with him. I believe if that had been successful, the US wouldn't have overdeveloped sprawl and would have more alternative forms of transportation. Now we only have behemoth trucks, SUVs. We sit in traffic as our Earth dies along with the old hopes for the future. Now FoMoCo will no longer manufacture cars except the Mustang. The company is now run by a former furniture CEO. US doesn't even manufacture furniture like it did before China joined WTO. Junk.
