Loved the Creed videos, over the moon that you are doing STP next. Never saw them live but Scott Weiland with Velvet Revolver was the best front man I have ever seen live. He was like a force of nature.

STP has more of a jazzy influence with the harmonic choices compare to PJ - both DeLeo brothers like fusion and Robert takes a lot of influence from bossa nova and ragtime

I can't recommend "The Big Empty" by them enough. Everything thing they have is great, but it's a really good song for hitting that sweet spot between hits and deeper cuts.

I found out about Big Empty because I always sit and watch the credits at the end of movies at the theater and it started playing at the end of The Crow. I'll never forget it!

I saw STP when I was in 5th or 6th grade live in a college gymnasium. Btw I love when you take the main melody of songs and play around with it on the keyboard.

I’ve listened to dozens of music reactors over the past few years - none have captured exactly what excites my ears like you’ve done in this one. No surprise that you’re a jazz educator. I’ve loved, played, taught & studied jazz since 1975. Love STP, AIC, Soundgarden

Scott had a lower register almost baritone like Eddie from Pearl Jam but Scott would sing in higher octaves sounding more like Layne from Alice in Chains as he did in Sex Type Thing. Unfortunately, it led to them getting the nickname Clone Temple Pilots. When Purple was released the derision subsided as their sound kept ever-changing and by their third album they were almost a completely different animal.

Dude- do you notice the little bits of guitar feedback you can hear throughout the song? I love those little touches in the mix. You can really notice it throughout their song "Sex Type Thing" which makes it sound like Dean is playing with his amp cranked to like 11 .

Great reaction! King's X was a huge influence on STP & Pearl Jam, as well as many other grunge bands. King's X guitarist, Ty Tabor, is considered to be the innovator of Drop D tuning. His tone goes unmatched to this day! Another LEGENDARY band for you to check out!

So cool how these guys quickly evolved from being so called "pearl jam knock offs" (even though STP was around first as Mighty Joe Young) to such an artsy/bowie-ish/psychedelic/experimental rock band. Unlike most other grunge and 90's rock bands whose sound grew rather stagnant after a few albums.

❤😂I'm all caught up now with STP!! Creed & Linkin Park made my youth heart so happy. Please do more Alterbridge. Fort Minor, Grey Daze, Mayfield Four, Velvet Revolver are side projects that you should react to as well. I want to contribute to your richness in life. I'm gonna be 40 this year. We Xennials need to stick together ❤😅

Poor STP with this song and Pearl Jam saying they were knock offs!! Totally untrue!! It really bothered Scott. I grew up loving both bands and I never heard my friends comparing them and I never thought they sounded a like. Two totally different sounds imo

I agree, I love both bands and never thought they sound anything alike. And STP’s sound evolved so much between Core and Tiny Music, they really played with different styles and genres far more than most of the grunge bands of their time.

You'd be really interested in the interview Rick Beato did with the bassist of STP recently. It was great! Also, when this stuff first hit the radio, I thought it was Pearl Jam (oops) because Eddie Vedder kind of swallows his tone (sings more from the middle of his mouth) too. Scott Stapp does it too.
