Something about this song inspires the most incredible longing in me. It's almost overwhelming, this unfulfilled NEED. My problem is I have no idea what I'm longing for. It just makes me ache for something.

Zeitgeist is soooo underrated. listen to the entire album and man the writing, the composition and how cool it was sonically... my favorite Pumpkins album (and I'm old enough to remember Dream and Sadness etc being released) But for me Zeitgeist was just pinnacle Billy and Jimmy.

One of the anthems of my teenage years. Love this song. Mayonnaise was another of theirs that's stuck with me over the years. When you were mentioning the chord progression I couldn't help but think of "4 Chord Song" by The Axis of Awesome, an Australian comedy rock band. I think you'd get a chuckle out of that one. I think they have 4-5 different versions of it now.

Thank you so much for this video David! To this day, Smashing Pumpkins is probably still my favorite band; listening to and playing their music has helped me to channel and release a ton of emotion throughout my life. I was moved by your appreciation for that quality in this song. Along that vein, I enthusiastically encourage you to listen to their songs "Mayonaise" and "Thirty-Three". Take care!

I would really love to hear your thoughts on their '95 album, "Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness". The title track, "To Forgive", "We Only Come Out at Night", "Lily", "Thru the Eyes of Ruby", "By Starlight", etc. I guess the entire album as a whole. The first concert I ever went to was them during this tour in Wichita, KS. I was in 7th grade. Absolutely magic.

LOVED THIS. One of my favorite Smashing Pumpkins songs! (Thirty-Three is another beauty.) Gerard Way sounds somewhat similar to Billy Corgan and cites the Pumpkins as a major influence on My Chemical Romance’s musical style. Still impatiently awaiting an MCR breakdown. I maintain Early Sunsets over Monroeville is a standout track from the early days. 🖤

agree, i love Early Sunsets over Monroeville (and Demolition Lovers) and MCR is definitely worth a deep dive as well. i would say he should do a 5-by MCR but 5 tracks doesn't do the band justice!

A good band for you to hit up in the shed would be The Cure, just try to avoid Love Song and Friday I'm In Love, maybe go for Pictures of You (video is an edit of the album version that chops off like 2 minutes, sadly) or Just Like Heaven or Inbetween Days, those are all songs that are more of the classic Cure sound. Also, Depeche Mode: Strangelove, Enjoy The Silence, World In My Eyes, Walking in My Shoes, Behind The Wheel If you really want to go down a rabbit hole, I would suggest Cocteau Twins: Heaven or Las Vegas (Unfortunately the video is an edit of the album version), Iceblink Luck, Carolyn's Fingers, or Aikea Guinea. Just know that you will not really have words to go from, she uses her voice more as an instrument and changes the pronunciation of words to twist them into sounds rather than words. You might find that concept fascinating to break down as a concept.

great reaction. SP are my favourite band ever since my dad introduced me into them when i was around 13 yo. finally after so many years i saw them live in 2019 with my dad and bro. so many great memories of them. They have so much heavy stuff but its those slower songs that make them shine. here is a tip for free for you: listen to theri song Mayonaise. You wont be dissapointed. Great job (y)

You really ought to check out the band Movements, they are a newer band from California. Their singer, Pat is unreal, and they have a cool post-hardcore rocky sound. I'd say start with the song Deadly Dull, 12 Weeks, or perhaps Colourblind!

i LOVE movements. "Colorblind" by them is the song I play when I need music to make me feel better. Saw them live in 2018. They're amazing. The first song I heard by them was "Protection" and they integrated a piece that was like spoken word. Very beautiful. Music to cry to. I hope he reacts to this band too!

You should check out My Chemical Romance. Gerard and Billy almost sound alike, look similar and Gerard's favorite band is The Smashing Pumpkins. MCR also got to play with the guitarist of Queen in a festival back in 2013? Fun fact Gerard is also related to Joe Rogan. Anyway.. yeah, MCR. Check out Helena. It's "The show stopper", its typically the last song they play at every concert. Helena is also about his late grandmother who passed away, he wrote how he felt, all the anger and feelings he felt (she showed Gerard how to dance, act, draw and sing. She was a major influence in his artistic life). You hear vicious guitars battling back in forth but in a beautiful harmonic way. The song reminded me of when I was 5 my grandmother died. I remember being upset and extremely angry, and angry towards God. Years passed and this song came out. It explained many emotions that helped me heal. Love the videos like always. You're a cool dude man!

I don’t think he’s terrible at all. I don’t even believe in that word when it comes to music but more so, he doesn’t have a conventionally “beautiful” voice yet he moves so many with it and has such a huge influence. He has the perfect voice to deliver his music.
