I've always been a firm believer that people who don't recognize the talent required to play basically any sub genre of metal don't know anything technical about music. These channels are pretty much supporting that belief.

Yes I think many of us get a wrong impression of screaming (in a musical way) because of all the music videos and live performances. It takes a lot of practice and technique and not just screaming like you're angry af. Really impressive.

Something people don't realize about metal vocals is that the more emotion you feel and let through into your face, the worse your technique is. Will is a master of basically meditation while screaming. Not literally, but he goes into his deep focus. I understand this focus because I have to do them for my lows screams. It's really tricky and easy to fall out of, hense the intensity of the focus.

YES YES YES Okay so firstly, yes he is doing these vocals in a safe way, and TRUST ME , alot of people who emulate these tones are not. Hes doing what we call "fry centric hybrids" which just means hes using both his true folds and his false cords to create these sounds. Why im telling you that is because it plays a role in how he gets this demonic unique sound. Fry has maybe 3-4 different components to it from nasel resonance to placement to where in the throat the distortion sits. Will is using the traditional deathcore fry element youll hear in bands like Enterprise Earth or Angelmaker. BUT like i said hes also got that false cord playing a role in the scream, so when he does highs its also got this body underneath it, its not just this purely high sounding high like most frys are. And his lows... oh god... where to begin... So for his lows hes using 3 things... fry, false cord, and Epiglottis.... that last one, is EXTREMELY rare for anybody to be able to use in metal vocals without hurting themselves or literally choking on their own vomit....i might know from experience. lol If you check out Alex Terrible, he uses false-cord and epiglottis and if you check out the band DARKO and their vocalist Tom Barber, youl hear his lows are a combo of fry and epiglottis. All three of these men, Will, Tom, and Alex are some of the best in the game and confuse the fuck out of people because nobody can really properly emulate them. They can come close, but never spot on...which brings me to my favorite point.. Different anatomy means a different scream. So literally everybody has at-least a slightly different scream. No matter if theyre doing the exact same distortion technique, its always going to be unique. Thats part of why i love being a metal vocalist. because its such a huge and welcoming world of people just trying to find their voice and do vocals safely. LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!!! KEEP IT UP BUDDY!!!

In my middle school we had an assignment where we needed to perform a solo in front of the entire music class(non-elective FYI) and the rule was no rap, and no screaming… if only music teachers understood the truth of how much effort and talent it takes to perform BOTH rapping and harsh vocal techniques. I completely agree with everything you said, David. Your insight on the connection between this music and the human experience of realizing our brokenness is the same conclusion that helped me to appreciate this musical and vocal style. We can't begin to work on mending our flaws if we never even acknowledge them. Elizabeth from The Charismatic Voice recently interviewed Will. She's a classically trained opera singer and vocal nerd, so she went very in-depth on some of the questions you had. it might be of interest to you. Great reaction!

7:30- brilliant comment. I’ve been exploring why I listen to the music I do. It’s mostly metal with some classical thrown in. But why metal? As someone who wasn’t super emotional growing up, metal has helped me tap into my emotional side. Metal covers then entire emotional spectrum and isn’t afraid to show it. It’s helped me be a better person. Another reason is that it isn’t afraid to dwell in the darkness. Whether it be a personal shadow, trauma, or “negative” emotions, metal isn’t afraid to provide a platform for exploring ones own darkness. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and respect towards this type of music. Peace. Chris

I can do the Darkness the difference is he’s using most likely the false cords to do the voice. I can only keep it up for a minute or two broken up, not constantly speaking. Because I think I’m using my vocal cords for it, cause it scratches my throat and makes me cough. Although honestly pre 2 week flu a few years ago I could do it non stop no issues. Than I got really sick and since than have been unable to do it long term. Which sucks because I identify as an otherkin and can barely even do the voice changing anymore. Like could life had been any more cruel towards me, than to take the one thing that made me truly unique. Well not 100% taken, but I have to be careful nowadays and after a few recordings I have to take week long breaks. There is some minor stuff I do daily that doesn’t affect me. But still broken up about the rest.

Would highly recommend listing to Infant Annihilator and Shadow of Intent on the channel as well. Dickie Allen of IA and Ben Duerr of SoI are some of the best in the game and Will Ramos credits them as being some of his inspirations. They also did a track together [Hollow Prophet's Scumprophet]. Would also recommend Brand of Sacrifice and Crystal Lake. Kyle Anderson of BoS is an absolute monster with a crisp clean voice as well, and Ryo Kinoshita of CL is also just a powerhouse of a vocalist. All sorts of talented bands in the scene, but those are the 4 I think I most want to recommend for someone just listening to modern deathcore. Ryo's also done a track with Spiritbox, a band you've checked out before [Spiritbox's Holy Roller ft.Ryo Kinoshita - there's 2 versions of the track].

The technique he's using is a combination of false chord gutteral screams and throat tunneling for the lows. The highs are fry screams and sometimes combined with throat tunneling. Throat tunneling is done with your tounge pressed against the back of your bottom teeth and when you do this with a false chord scream it sometimes makes the audio illusion of double distorted vocals. It also makes getting lower demonic sounding gutteral screams way easier from what I've seen just from trying it.

From what I know Will started as a fan doing covers like a lot of us. Singing along is one thing, but having immaculate control and just nailing the rattling highs with full range is something that's really hard to achieve. As a metal fan and somebody who aspired to be a voice actor as a child I can certainly sing along but doubt I'd ever achieve such crispy highs as Will. I can follow along the lows no problem but highs I can't quite get. There is tremendous talent here on top of endless rehearsal and natural gifts to have every transition, flip and vocal demonstration absolutely polished.

Will getting the recognition he deserves really makes me happy. I love that man so much and would be an absolute honor To meet him. Coming from a guitarist, he’s inspired me to start practicing vocals a lot more!

As somebody who grew up listening to heavy music and had to argue against people trying to illegitamise my music taste for decades, it's great hearing people from so far outside of my genre really enjoy and respect the artistry. On a more funny side of the coin, Jared Dines went around to concerts and challenged normal people to try these types of vocals... Needless to say nobody who hadn't spent years learning to do it absolutely could not do it. I love the more extreme forms of metal music because when done well, it displays the absolute pinnacle of technical mastery one can have for their chosen instrument. So much music that sees airtime is overly synthesized, autotuned, and produced to a point where it's predominantly plastic. Back in the 80's and 90's it was punk rock, honest and unrefined, and it gave a voice to those who were were considered the counter-culture. I feel like fringe subgenres of metal like this have picked up that torch and brought real, organic music back to an overwhelmingly synthetic world.

You could definitely argue Dickie vs Will... but Will has done so much to bring our art into the mainstream and getting the respect it deserves... but Allen definitely deserves a watch man

There are many unique vocalists in the metal world, personally Gareth Mason of the band Slice the Cake is my favorite vocalist/lyricist and has been a huge influence for 10 years now. I whole heartedly believe that some of the best lyrics exist in metal across multiple sub genres that people like to slap on bands.

3:53 "Does this guy do voices in video games too?" Well no, but speaking of that there was Mike Patton (lead singer of Faith No More) who voiced a few of the zombies in the famous 2008 zombie game "Left 4 Dead", who's voice for the zombies sounds very similar to Will's.

Wills vocals have a certain depth that many cant emulate, specifically it having such a deep clear tone. He has to borderline be doing hardcore vocal type of techniques with more control so no damage is done. One thing that blew me away about deathcore was the level of breathing control you have to have. Anyone who denies metal genres not having any skill or talent should give it a go :)

Honestly to me only Dickie Allen has the skills and versatility that Will has. If you haven't you should react to some Infant Annihilator, that's the band Dickie is in and he has some similarly jaw dropping performances.
