My great grand-uncle, Father Sherwin, baptised Grace Gifford in Catholicism so she could marry Joseph Plunkett. He married her sister, Muriel, to Thomas MacDonagh, and they hoped for him to marry Grace and Joseph as well. Unfortunately, the prison wouldn’t allow for Father Sherwin to marry them, so they were married by a stranger. Grace stayed close with Father Sherwin after the events of Easter 1916, and even made a beautiful tapestry for him, with his name embroidered on the back. The tapestry now hangs in Kilmainham Gaol, where Jospeh was held in 1916, and where Grace was imprisoned a few years later, during the Civil War.

When I hear rod Stewart singing grace it really saddens me for the sadness and pain that the Irish people had to go through. I feel ashamed that English people could be so cruel. I am sure it would not be allowed to happen again. I shall be walking in the green hills of kilarney in June and singing an Irish song.

Born in Liverpool England me Ma and Da Irish, Dublin, Cork, first of all I'm a Scouser and wouldn't change it for the world, but as soon as I started thinking for myself the more I'm convinced Ireland has a concrete open and shut case against the English government for the last 800years Discrimination of the highest degree in all walks of life, if the black people all round the world can claim discrimination (rightly so good look to them) for the last 200 to 300 years and win the case WHAT CHANCE IRELAND 800 years of opression, discrimination, banishment, systematic starvation, land thievery, occupation on sovereign soil, no wonder the Irish said enough is enough

Lucy Lafferty Scotland has a long history in Ireland starting with Ulster plantations etc if you write anything other than Irish - like putting Scot in your heritage is that of a people who did not see themselves as Irish. They came to Ireland with purpose : politics of divide and rule. The Orange order are of the same heritage Scotland.
