Love your breakdowns so much!!! It's so great to see you again. Never paid attention to the timing and have listened to it so many times that keeping up with the rapping feels natural but I see what you're talking about! I feel like it makes the emotions clearer, like the verses are more of an angry rant about the past and the settled chorus parts the more nostalgic acceptance

Agree with you! I love this song but it definitely has an unsettling aspect about it. Never knew why but I think it goes so well with this song! I think the end sounds better because everything comes together as a wholistic piece when we were only getting some of the production early on. My favorite part is when the choir starts and they start belting right before the final chorus. So good!

Good to see ya, Mike! I never picked up on the unusual time signature contributing to the unsettled feeling of this one; great observation!

I love your analysis of this. I'm a musician myself, and one of my sons is currently studying Music Technology & Production. We both love NF, and I distinctly remember listening to this song with him a few years ago and we were both struggling to figure out the time signature! It sounds like it's in 6/8, but is really 4/4 like you said -- just incredibly creative production by NF and Tommee Profitt! #nfrealmusic

So nice that you're back. I would think it would be so great if you would like to react to Billie's new things. she did such good new things. Especially in the live and studio areas. I'm sure you'll like them.

A large part of how "unsettling" vs "settled" the beat feels actually as a *lot* to do with NF's flow and tone/emphasis on the beat (in my opinion). The way his vocal cadence and tone "bounces" on the beat and blends in as if it was one of the instruments itself. Where he would emphasize, his tone, etc has a lot to do with it as well and it is actually what makes it hard to catch the 3/5 pattern. It can still feel unsettling, but that's intentional. It's a combination of nostalgia but the unsettling feeling acts somewhat like a precaution to not get lost in the nostalgia. At least, that's how I take it as getting lost in yearning for the past instead of adapting and growing to the current circumstances can be and/or have some rather disasterous consequences.

Yup after 100+ listens the beat is still unsettling but it follows my life so yeah.. lol

Im starting to think this series might go on forever if NF just keeps occasionally dropping albums, and I couldn't really complain. Hope you've been well. And just to keep tradition going at this point Vesuvius by Sufjan Stevens

Have you reacted to his video HOPE?? It’s a masterpiece from beginning to end. Please make it your next NF reaction!
@TheMuserResolute17 күн бұрын
Heya! I have, but it didn’t go down too well due to issues with KZbin blocking so you can still see my reaction and comments, just that the video was cut (and I recognise watching from start to finish for the viewer is quite important and adds to the experience). You can find it on my NF “reactions” playlist :)

Before you listen to "Hope", you need to go all the way back to the song, "Mansion" (It's the key/cypher to unlock almost all of his other songs)‼️ It's a must as it looks like you only did songs from his 4 album, "The Search". Hope is almost a MOVIE with its range of sound & visuals 😮!
