Love, love, love your videos. Just finished watching the sequence on Flex Time, Flex Pitch, and Automation. Previously watched sections on audio and midi recording. Step by step, I'm learning Logic because of you. Thanks so much for being such an articulate and inspiring teacher. My CD is coming along day by day, largely because of you! So grateful.

Hey man, remember to use the marquee tool and just get an area and then pull up or down, you don't have to click four times that way.

Your tutorials are a godsend, thank you SO MUCH Musictechhelp guy - I refer all my newcomer buddies to your account. One thing I might add to this video is that doing volume automation (probably other kinds of automation as well) too early can be a REAL PAIN later on if you're trying to adjust your volume levels.

Wanted to thank you for the excellent tutorials with Logic Pro x. I have been following right along. I have been using different DAWs for the last year 15 years as clients bring different projects on different DAWs. I have always been intrigued how logic does things. You explain it just right, not to much just the right amount of info to get you in and out of trouble. Great job! Where does external controllers fit into your list of topics to come up? Having some issues getting through the very basic manual logic has.

The problem with this volume automation is that you lose the ability to set the levels of the tracks relative to the other tracks using the faders. If you try, then as soon as you get to the point in the song where the automation begins, it will override your manual fader level. A better way is to set the volume automation parameter to “Relative”. This way, you can still use you faders for mixing and the volume automation will be relative to the fader level.

I've been trying to get the automation points on the line and looked at various Logic Pro X videos and nothing would work at all.. totally frustrated.. (I have used other DAWS on another PC with no problem doing it.. it's always so obvious!) But now on a macbook pro with Logic Pro X it just wouldn't work.. tearing my hair out! Only on watching your video when you mentioned double clicking for deleting points I thought I'd try that (as I've managed to get a couple of points on using another method from the menu) and it turns out that double clicking, on MY system, puts them ON ! So finally I can do it.. what a F*** headache! WTF?

Hi there! What would be the best way once you have all automated to make a quick +1 DB to all the track? I find it very time loosing to open the automation window select all, etc.... maybe you have a trick for this? I would love one function where you could pick up the fader and that would pick up the complete automation line.... any ideas? Thanx

Great tutorial. May I ask a question? When in read mode either in the mixer or on the inspector column, sometimes the entire read button is green with the word "read" in white; sometimes the button is grey with the word "read" in green. What is the difference? It seems to me that I cannot move the settings when the entire button is green, but I can move the settings (similar to latch mode) when it's grey with the green word. These both occur with the automation on. When I hit the "on/off" button to the left of the word in my mixer board setting, then the word "read goes to white against a grey background and it is truly off. I'm not sure why one gets chosen over the other, or if you can toggle them somehow? Thanks for you help on this.. And Merry Christmas!

There was nothing you did, including option dragging to copy automation points, that I was not able to do with the pointer tool. I'm not seeing why you needed the special automation tool for anything here, unless you want to introduce it for future use where it's actually needed.

In my Logic Pro X "AUTOMATION SELECT TOOL" doesn't make any sense because i can select automations with my normal "pointer tool" , am i right or is it just a lucky glitch of my logic ?

Hi, first of all, thanks a lot for your videos, they are sooo helpful, but I do have a question and I've been trying to find the answer but I can't. I've been using nuendo/cubase and there was a very fast way to modify the volume and the height of the waveform in 2 seconds, isolating the part of the wave cutting before and after and then simply raising the volume in the part that has been cut. I hope it makes sense, I saw that there was something similar you did previously in another video changing the gain, but is there any way to actually see the wave changing instantly so you can visually see the selected part changing the height of the wave instead inserting the parameters? Thanks a lot.
@robfulco47399 жыл бұрын
First, does it matter to see the audio change size? Or does it matter that the audio changed in the way you want? Second in Pro Tools it is called "clip gain", in Logic X it is Flex Pitch. You have to turn Flex Pitch on in the track you want to change the gain on. Select the region and adjust the gain.

should automation be added to a track before or after a mixdown?
@MusicTechHelpGuy8 жыл бұрын
Automation is typically the last thing I add before mixing. It becomes a nuisance when I'm trying to make level changes late in the and I've already added automation.

@randman218 жыл бұрын
In case you're still wondering, yes! I am by no means an expert (quite the opposite, actually), but yesterday, I applied automation specifically to the amount of overdrive on a Guitar Rig 5 plugin. It's so useful.
