I wish the Modulator were available for audio tracks though. And that there were a free mode in the Arp.

Hi Josh, I wanted to take a moment to brag about the fact that because of your deep dives into Logic, I found myself advising a literal music tech professor on Alchemy, and I'm not even a music major. Really goes to show how much good you do for the world, so thank you.

Amazing how you turned a single note into a full groove!! Can we extend this by using buses and controlling each bus output? Would love to see if that’s possible

Nice one! I'm not sure your Modulator plugin was working as expected. The parameters on the ES2 weren't moving in response to it, and I don't think I heard any modulation.

I just double-checked. It's working fine. If I pull up the output level it's very obvious. Also, take a look at 8:50 mark where I use it with a sine wave - you can hear the modulation very clearly there, but no movement on the ES2. For some reason when you assign a CC in the modulator it doesn't move the controls. But if I were to directly assign the modulator to those knobs without the mod wheel, you'd see them move around.

@@MusicTechHelpGuy Thanks for checking! OK after re-listening, you're right, it is working. I guess the subtlety of the modulation plus not seeing the controls move threw me.

Quick question, how do you import a saved loop on a keyboard to Logic Pro X

What do i do if I want to keep the MIDI effects constant, but scroll through different vst patches and see how each one sounds? Why isn't there a Bus feature or something like that?

Hello, I sometimes drop by your channel as I'm very interested in your comments and explanations. Today I have a question for you: I work with Logic Pro 11 and I have recently bought a new interface (SSL12) and from time to time this window appears: ‘Recognised sample rate 40.073. Check the conflict between Logic and your external device’. The sample rate chosen is 44.1 and the SSL12 interface is connected via ADAT to a Focusrite 8-channel device, being the SSL 12 the master. Do you know why? It sounds like a sync problem to me, don't you think? Do you have any idea about it? Thank you very much and best regards from Hamburg, Germany.

MTHG - I’m new to MIDI. I’m wondering if you could do a “MIDI 101” video for noobs like me. I have a Roland MIDI controller that I just use as a keyboard. What are all those faders and dials used for? In this video, you mention the “modulator wheel”. What is that. Where is it? What are “LFO” and “ENV” and all those complex controls? If you could do a video on basics of MIDI it would be great. Thanks.

The faders and dials -- which includes the mod wheel -- are sometimes preset by the MIDI keyboard (e.g., the mod wheel controls modulation, but consult your manual) or (more often) can be programmed to send MIDI signals to your DAW (digital audio workstation - like LOGIC PRO, as used in the video) that then control or manipulate the virtual instrument active in the DAW. The LFO (low frequency oscillator) is a means to automate the variance of some parameter (such as modulation). Without necessarily making it the focus of his video, Josh invoked a number of aspects of SYNTHESIZER programming -- a very large and dark rabbit hole. The absolute best intro to synth programming is Joe Hanley's Syntorial app. There you would learn about all the virtual knobs and buttons you saw in the ES2 synth. Learning to program your keyboard so that the physical knobs on your keyboard manipulated the virtual knobs on the ES2 is the role of the MIDI you're asking about. Unfortunately, I don't know a Josh or Joe level resource for MIDI in and of itself.

Wow with these effect stack and a bit of automation you can literally make a song with just one singular MIDI note LOL

Seriously cool. Thank you. This is a fantastic introduction to MIDI effects. Now, what I really want to do is to automate the FEEDBACK knob on the DELAY plug-in. That final effect with DELAY/FEEDBACK really put it all over the top.
