I just picked up that Lewitt mic it looks like you're using. I've been pretty impressed with it and selling my SM7b because of it. Maybe Re-amping as a follow up video to this?
@MusicTechHelpGuy3 ай бұрын
It's the Lewitt Ray microphone. Similar in sound to the LCT 440, but it has a really cool feature that senses your proximity to the mic and changes the gain of the mic based on where you're standing. I've used SM7B's and the Earthworks Icon for VoiceOver work and while both are great mics, the Lewitt just blows them out of the water for this type of work. I get consistency in my spoken word shots, no matter where I'm located in the room. Although, I don't really use it for music recording much. I highly recommend it though; however, I wouldn't sell your SM7B, still a great mic with a lot of uses. I'd prefer the SM7B over the Lewitt for some vocal recordings. Been meaning to do a video on re-amping for a while now, I'll eventually get to it.

I sent this to my son, who is just getting into Logic / home studio stuff. Really enjoy your work and thanks for the advice on new computer fresh install. 2 questions: 1) will you be doing an update video on Amp Designer like the in-depth a year ago? If that one still applies, I’ll send that to my son also anyway 2) Was there a “Soldano 100” amp sim in 10.7? I have the neural dsp Soldano 100 X, but wanted to show my son something similar in Logic stock amp sims
@MusicTechHelpGuy3 ай бұрын
I'm not going to do deep into Amp Designer in this course, cause it's all the same as the previous one, so that video still applies. I don't believe Logic has a Soldano model. Logic definitely lacks in high-gain rock and metal amps. When I need a Soldano type amp I usually use the "Solstice Solo 100" in the STL AmpHub, but I'm sure the Neural is just as good, maybe better.
@rroades3 ай бұрын
@@MusicTechHelpGuy thanks - thought that might be the case. The Neural is a licensed, brand name on it, so I hope it’s a fairly true representation. Their Toneking is my favorite sim for almost anything lead or rhythm, the Soldano next for the high gain. But has an ambient clean that is awesome.

Could you, perhaps, use a helix or other processor to run straight into your interface? Or would you have it after the interface? Just wondering. Thanks
@joelonsdale3 ай бұрын
If the Helix has a USB output that works as an audio interface (I imagine it has) you can just connect it directly to your computer and then set the Input Device in Logic's audio settings to "listen" to the Helix. Make sure you set the I/O Buffer Size low or you'll hear a delay when recording.

Agree 100% with what @joelonsdale said. Alternatively if you don't want to use the Helix as an interface, you can also connect the line outs on the Helix to any audio interface. It looks like the Helix offers both a mic level and line level output. I'm assuming if you use the XLR outs on the Helix that would be mic level, and 1/4" outputs are line level, but I'm not 100% sure.

@@MusicTechHelpGuy What if I was old school using a pod 2.0? I do have one of these and it’s just so easy to dial in atone without pointing and clicking.

Just wondering why the final chord on the guitars is G and not C?
@MusicTechHelpGuy3 ай бұрын
It ends on G because the progression is in C major, and G is the V chord. Usually when I start a progression on the I chord (C) I don't end it on the same chord. Or if it's a progression that doesn't start on the I chord, I usually end it on the I chord. For example if I did CFGC-CFGC in a repeating pattern then I'm getting two C chords right next to each other when the progression repeats. Although, you'll see the final chord of the example is in fact a C chord.

Man, I was getting so much latency when trying to listen to my guitar with the amps and effect... the only time I was able to hear the guitar in real time was with headphones plugged into the audio interface (audient id4, btw). Is that normal? I lowered the buffer size and everything, no luck. I'm really hoping I'm just doing something wrong because I hate the idea of having to always record by listening to my clean un-amped guitar... I also use logic. 🤷🏻♂
@MusicTechHelpGuy3 ай бұрын
You might have some higher latency plugins running in your mix while trying to record. Right click or control click on the top right of the toolbar at the top, and select “customize toolbar…”. Then show “low latency monitoring”. Turn that on and see if it helps. It will automatically bypass plugins causing too much latency.
