Gibson Hummingbird Faded vs Original - Which One Sounds Better?

Gibson just launched the new "Faded" Series including this awesome Hummingbird "Faded" in a Natural Finish… but how does it compare to the Original Hummingbird? Will less lacquer change the tone drastically? What do you think? Leave us a comment.

Had mine about 3 years now. A preloved 2010 just like the sunburst on the one here. It's got that Gibson soft warm compressed "thump", love it!

The beauty of being over 70 is that they all sound the same (pretty much). So, I give serious consideration to things like: does the color of the guitar match the color of my eyes; what did Quinton say; and, other equally relevant features.

I thought I read that the body depth on the faded is less than on the standard? I would think if so that could affect the sound or volume?

A little noisy-er but good. Louder than the Faded 50's J45.and I think with faded Hummingbird I like the finish just as much

That original has a bit more volume than the ones I tried back 10 years ago or so. They were just to soft and quiet for me. I walked in with the intent of buying one but left with a Martin D28

You Absolutely have to try a J45. I’ve loved Martins for 25 yrs and never liked Gibsons at all. Now, though. J45 is my favorite guitar. a they are amazing I’m tellin ya! 😂

I think that new Faded series Hummingbird just looks great. And at $3,499, it's $500 less than the original Hummingbird in either the natural or cherry sunburst finish. You sure can't go wrong with either though.

I liked when Quinton played finger style with a thumb pick how the high strings came across the ensemble more distinctly on the Faded Series guitar; they sounded fresh and clear...

Original sounds deeper to me, and is what I tend to look for in a guitar. It's why I am going to sell my Taylor 717 for a Martin or Gibson down the road.

I used to own a 1956 J-45, and TBH, I loved the deep mellow sound when finger picking and the cannon sound when hammering it. But I always wished it has more sparkle. This faded Hummingbird, to my ear, had the bottom end of the J-45 and the sparkle of maybe a D-18.

I have a j45 standard in cherry finish and it has both bottom end sparkle. Bought from Willcutt guitars @@samk4801

Natural finishes were more expensive back in the day...there's nothing "pure" about sunburst guitars, they were created to hide imperfections and lower grade pieces of wood. Another Gibson "innovation!"...🙄

I really dislike sunburst finishes. I think they are supposed to make a guitar look like it has inhabited smokey rooms for years. But no blonde guitar ever ended up looking sunburst naturally.
