The construction seems Rickenbacker-inspired, too: rosewood fretboard, maple neck, neck thru with mahogany wings. The body is like the 4003W, but with mahogany wings instead of walnut wings.

Been researching 8-stringers for a while now and this one seems to be at the top in terms of quality build. The wide neck has kept me from pulling the trigger on buying one. I know the dual truss rod system must be accommodated, but my hands aren't Peter Steele sized so it's just not going to happen. Thanks for the review as there aren't a lot for these instruments!

I used to have a custom 8-string with j-bass setup on a mahogany body. It was a lot of fun to play but I wish I’d thought to throw an octaver on it - that was a neat organ tone. I also had a 12-string with humbuckers and some very neat wiring allowing, among other things, to run the bridge pup to one amp and the neck pup to another - kind of allowed a distorted rhythm and bass in full sync.

I would love to hear that bass tuned BEAD. I love having a low B string, but I don't like its timbre - it's so fat that you lose the all the overtones. I was wondering if you pair that string with an octave B string, you could get some of that timbre back. What do you think?
