If you are new to piano don't make the same mistake I did by learning songs using synthesia and memorising the notes. When you get to more advanced music it takes you 10 times as long to learn as someone who reads sheet music.

Dude I made the SAME mistake myself.... 7 years of learning (then forgetting) how to play songs by watching people play on youtube... Finally now I'm learning sight reading and making some genuine progress and improvements. Kind of stings to know I could've been SO much better if I just started with doing what I'm doing now, but hey never too late I guess!!

i started about 5 days ago and here's my progress (maybe it'll motivate someone) till 2 days ago I couldn't even do above 25th. and today finally!! I could do all the exercises. tho not along the music in the video but I could complete each piece in the time allotted to it! yesterday I was so demotivated, couldn't play anything right so I practiced only for 15-20 minutes. the day before yesterday, I reduced the speed of the video to do all of them. but still couldn't catchup in normal speed. the day before it I couldn't learn and understand the extra notes (Notes above G in treble cleff and below F in Bass cleff) i dont take any classes, teaching myself the keyboard. i'm pretty happy with my progress today so thought of sharing, might not be too much for most of the people here.

I've been playing piano for about 3 weeks and doing these exercises about 5 days. I kept redoing arpund 20-30 the last couple days as past about 33 they start to level up quite a bit. It's fun though, this feels a lot more useful than just doing musictheory exercises. It's helping me coordinate the sheet music with the actual piano.

Came from Pianote's How to Sight Read video to this. I practiced last night for 20 minutes and stumbled a bit, came back this morning and nailed the first 10 with no problem. This definitely reinforced something in my brain. I also like that the sequences are supposed to make sense musically and you can hear when you mess up even with the video sound off, instead of it just being random notes thrown together. I'll be using these videos from here on out. THANKS BREH

These are the best exercises I've found, not to learn how it works but applying it and just doing quantity work. I'm a flute player learning the piano, so the left hand is really hard to read. But even for the right hand - just knowing what note I'm reading (since I can read that clef), is just half of the job. Teaching your muscles to find the right key is just as important. Please make more of these!!!

How do you know when and when not to use a sharp or flat? And how do you know what key, for example, F will be sharp or flat because at 18:36 (or somewhere around there) the sharp was on the top line where the second F is after middle C.
@pbnjsamich46634 жыл бұрын
It doesn’t matter what F the flat(b) or sharp(#) is on, if it’s on an F you play that F as flat or sharp for every F on the keyboard. To learn what key things are in I would highly recommend looking up a video on the circle of fifths.

the lines mean that either you play without any "gap" or break in sound between notes (if the line connects different notes) or that you hold the note for the sum of the duration of the notes linked (if its the same note). If i couldnt explain well, search for "ties and slurs"

Trying to learn the piano by watching video without actually learn how to read the notes, the analogy is you trying to cook a difficult dish, sure you can follow by watching other people do that. with practice, you can master how to cook that difficult dish. but when it comes to new recipe with on paper instructions, you know how you have to read it in order to cook. that's when you got into a trouble. the piano notes exist for a reason. if you keen to learn piano, please learn the notes and master it. p/s: im taking piano lessons and still learning Grade 1 sight-reading. hope everyone that reads this will master the sight-reading. take your time, our progress is not same.
