Never enough of Hank Williams. "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry' saddest song ever. Soooo well written by Hank.

When Hank recorded this song, along with several other Gospel songs, they were released under his "alter ego" Luke the Drifter. Hank was so hot at the time, that anything he recorded went straight to the jukebox in the bars and honky tonks. The record company was afraid that these songs would make it to the jukeboxes, and it would make people a little scared to put order Hank's new stuff because they wouldn't know if it was stone cold country or Gospel. So they came up with the compromise of letting him record his Gospel stuff but not release it under his name, but Luke the Drifter. That way they could distinguish what type of song it was before they heard it.

Love the country music of 50's.. the one take record has something special with all the imperfections. Tx for this from Québec Canada 🇨🇦 🤠

You might have seen the video of The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band sing this with Roy Acuff, but this was Hank Williams' second song he recorded for MGM in 1947. The first was Move it on Over.

I sang this song to myself when driving in a blizzard kind of as a plea to God to keep me safe and let me get home.

I heard a lot of Hank Williams growing up since my parents were fans. There was one song I liked, but at the moment forget the name of it. In general though, I'm not a country music fan.
