Islam is interesting in it's history. The doctrine built several empires that lasted for thousands of years. But Egypt has a history and influence that is much much older. The central monument in Washington DC is the Washington Monument. It is an explicit allusion to Egypt. Leptis Magna (your namesake) is where Septemius Severus came from. Cyrene is another great, but forgotten city.

Rasulilah said "I have been commanded to trim the mustache and grow the beard" (Muslim) and "Be different from the polythesists by trimming the mustache and growing the beard."(Muslim). So how can we be behind a leader/person who opposes islam.
