Am I the only person who thinks that very few people would actually speak up not matter who was getting harassed. I remember a social experiment back in ?2008? where a young girl, 4 or 5, was calling out 'YOUR NOT MY DAD LET GO OF ME' and it took almost 45minutes for someone to come to her aid, and they did it in the middle of the day in Manhattan. I think that people just suck in general and if you expect strangers to look out for you, you may be expecting a little too much.

I kept telling myself, “Maybe people were afraid of the situation” - but not the fact that you are Muslim, but the fact that they didn’t understand the conflict. I feel so many people fear to step in due to questioning their own judgment, and watching the faces of some onlookers who could only watch in disbelief… I wonder if they could even process the situation. Maybe they thought to themselves, “This can’t really be happening, this wouldn’t really happen” or because they’ve never seen it happen. My first thought would be to ask if you knew your attacker. Humans have a strange way of showing “affection”. Some of my barbaric friends greet one another with a head-butt, or degrading “joking” teasing. Humans are super weird and complicated. But all of this being said, the moment it became physical and you were visibly being attacked, regardless of whether a person thought the two of you had a prior conflict, they should have stepped in. You were not being combative or responding in any way other than to hold you ground and exhibit your rights. That is a clear sign to me. Being very involved in the Jewish community, I have seen many instances of Anti-Semitism. Instead of engaging their attacker, every single Jewish person I have seen fall victim to prejudice simply tells their attacker that they are loved by god. I once asked a Jewish man why he allowed another man to degrade him, and he told me that we are all “his” children. He smiled and walked away. Actually, giving it less thought… any person watching and not aggressively kicking your attacker in the balls is a disappointment to humanity. I guarantee you I would’ve relocated his prostate into his esophagus. #weareallhischildren
