Sir Syde Ahmed Khan was not supporter of British. He was stooge. Sir Syde divided Muslims in India. He was an Ashraf for Ashraf. Sir Syde was against education for women and Pasmanda Muslims. Even today in Aligarh Muslim University which was founded by Sir Syde it is difficult for Pasmanda Muslims to get admission. Pasmanda Muslim can get admission in BHU easily than in AMU. An unrelated comment : How humiliating that Pakistan, a country founded by a shia muslim leader Mohammad Ali Jinnah, had to explain to Saudi Arabia that its would be COAS isn’t a shia muslim? It’s due to decades long overdose of religiosity and financial dependency, both produced by the so called" Islamic republic system.". Pakistan needs a broader cast that Mr. Jinnah created a secure space for “his” people - all Muslims - which has evolved into a dystopia where, paradoxically, he may be rhetorically idolized but where a person of his habits, worldview & outlook would’ve been carved & minced in public.

I found the speaker to be below average . He got history incorrect/Missed talking historical events couple of times . He was not forthright with hard ,bitter facts about his religion . People want political, social & economic development; dignified livelihood; equitable rights & just distribution of resources; peace & security for development; respect & acceptance for indigenous cultures & languages. However, instead they are given a glimpse of hell on earth…due to a particular religion. Not sure the if the people with Islam can be called normal people wanting 7th century things in 21 century .. Again and again we are seeing any time a country ,population or community makes some progress and moves towards a modernity , science , technology and fact based reasoning some events take place and the country ,people and community would eventually want to go back to their holy book and the literature from 7th century and make life hell for the rest of us . All of the below events are in the last 100 years only . 1. We have the partition in 1947 since Muslims realized they cannot rule over Hindus and they have to compete with Hindus for which they were ill equipped. 2. We have the so called 1979 Iran revolution , it turned a modern state into a suffocating Islamic regime. 3. We have Afghanistan turned to hell on earth . It was state that had an elite that was modern and educated before 1979. 4. We are seeing Turkey now , for the last 80 years tried its best to assimilate modern European democratic values and grow and develop is on the brink of falling for the religion and the book from 7th century . I think the basic question should be if Islam can live with Democratic values OR NOT ??? If Islam is compatible with modern democracy ??

What pakistan really needs is a version of islam that denounces all bad and wrong things from THE BOOK. Most of it is from historical times in Arabia and not relevant today. It also MUST erase completely hard embedded hatred towards other religions and conversion. This version while keeping good things from islam, should bring in encouragement to think, analyze and improve religion. Also while keeping islam, it must include Indic values in it. Then only pakistan can prosper in the long term, else choose to become another Afghanistan eventually!

No. Something more substantial is needed. The presence of England has to be explained in the context of its history. There is a history of intellectual development that took place. Ideas had been generated, for example, in the context of Government, Parliament, Rule of Law. Thomas Hobbes. John Locke. How these individuals shaped the minds of Englishmen? How they shaped the character of a people? How Shakespeare’s plays based on history shaped both England and its people? Any lecture must cover these aspects of an emerging British Civilization. They saw the obvious. Decayed Islam. Decayed Hinduism. “Mother India” exposed that barbarism from both sides in a book. A book people stayed away from.

I think the title Muslim Modernism in Indian subcontinent (1857 to 1947) would have been more appropriate . There really are three persons in the last 100 years that count as modern and Muslims in Indian subcontinent . 1.Jinnah ( Second gen Shia, Gujarati Father converted to Islam for his personal /business benefits) 2 . Igbal (Father Rattan Lal converted to Islam in Kashmir , he was given options to convert OR die) 3. Syed Ahmad ( Ashraf of Ashrafs with very low opinion of pasmanda muslins and women) ) Basically Pakistan has undone the evolution of centuries that is your inheritance for a revolution which you have not thought through. And then eventually to retain some aspects of the evolution and some of the revolution. A daunting/Herculean challenge and an imprudent exercise on the whole! The challenge for Pak is to achieve prosperity without Hindus which is only possible if the society is re-constructed in its entirety to enable socio-economic & philosophical sophistication to emerge in what is now a desert. In contrast, Indian society is not imbalanced . Pak is an experiment which rejects the Hindu social order and seeks to create some thing new. Looking at how that experiment is faring presently, I would place my bets on the Hindu social order & Hindutva marching on successfully! The Hindu social order in the end achieves a societal equilibrium which has existed for centuries. Disrupting that order requires successfully replacing it which is akin to aiming to achieve great results after having discarded your most talented men and women. Anyways, it is us in India who will decide the fate of our society. All societies in the sub continent have always been organized along the Hindu social order. Hindutva is only an evolution.
