There are many instances that prove slavery in the Muslim World was brutal. Here are just a few: 1) Arab-African Slave Trade. Male African slaves taken to the Arabian Peninsula were sometimes castrated to serve as eunuchs. Women became sex slaves. 2) In the Middle Ages, Barbary pirates from North Africa routinely raided coastal cities in Europe and sold captives into slavery in North Africa. 3) When the Trans-Atlantic slave trade was in full swing, some of the slaves came from the interior of Africa, along trade routes where they were sold by Muslims. 4) The Zanj Rebellion in Baghdad (869-883 CE) proves him wrong. Those Muslim slaves rebelled because whatever regulations Islam put on slavery were not good enough to make them content with being slaves.

White women ended up marrying the richest men and were even considered superior to us Arab women. Few slaves were white men. Almost no arabs or ottomans were slaves after 9th century. We have to be honest, we Muslims did not follow the Islamic slavery at all. We still do not treat them as our equal and Allah SWT will punish us for that. However, I firmly believe that slavery is inherently immoral, and debating which slave is better is senseless. No human being desires to be a slave. It's important to note that even under German law, if the government orders a person to go to prison do not receive a lesser punishment if the person they ordered attempts to flee. When a slave has initiated the process of purchasing their freedom through installments (via mukataba), the master is prohibited from engaging in sexual relations with them. 2. A master is not allowed to have sexual relations with a slave who was already married before being acquired or was married by the master to someone else. This prohibition is outlined in Qur'an 4:2. Slavery has always, and still does exist in many forms. Indentured servitude within the British system has affected my own family, both in the coal mines of Wales and the penal colonies of Australia. They were all white peoples. I’d like to hear him talk about why so many Africans who were sent to the Muslim world were castrated to become eunuchs? Many Americans I have spoken to wonder why they don’t have a diaspora in the Middle East. Their whole perspective is race based. I have read it was the Portuguese who were the first to frame slavery in a racial way in order to subvert the laws of the day. I would love to hear the perspective of Muslims on this particular point. Much love to all of you x

First of all, “The Muslims countries” today are just secular countries….People are Muslims but laws and anarchies are not (they are Muslim by name only, they don’t follow Islamic teachings and rules) Also, in Islam, there is no discrimination between Arabic and non Arabic, a black or white, except by piety. The Jews used “usery” throughout Europe, as a plan to start spreading their slavery by making people being owed to them, which we know today as “interest fee”. Then, westerns came up with taxes and capitalism ( One is rich, 99 are poor among each 100) Whereas Islam has what we call “Zakat”, it’s a tiny amount of money you pay annually. Simply, it is that you only pay 2.5% of your total money you have (whether it’s cattle, or gold, or money) Oh, and as a counter to “interests” Islam has this simple yet effective solution, which is trading…For example, you want to buy a house for 20K dollars, if you go to a normal “interest based” bank, you just get a loan of 20K, then you will have to return them 21K, and the price goes higher every month or a certain amount of time, right? And if you can’t afford, you lose the car. However, in Islam, (if a bank uses the real Islamic economic system, you simply ask for the house, the bank buys it, then sells it to you higher than the original price, but you pay by monthly or yearly installments, the price won’t go up, you won’t lose the house unless you decide you can’t pay. Islam is a way of life, it has answers for everything, but people working in the dark day a night to blindsight people from the truth for their own purposes. Read about Bilal bin Rabah, the first one to declare the prayers’ calling (Athan or Azan in Arabic) and he was a black and a slave to an evil guy. Go read about him! Hope it helps.

This coward is a liar and a deceiver like his fake god, he pikes and chooses the history that makes him look good and by looking at the comments he seduced you with his way of talking and you didn't realise how many lies he said, all he said is easily debunked in the following: 1."as if anyone is the world have been as savage as you (westerners)" He says that when the muslims were cutting off their slaves pen!ses and left them to die once they got old or sick, in the west like you said they would take care of their slaves for financial reason (still no morally right), but muslim didn't spend a cent on their slaves, once he is to no use he is cast out, and let's not start talking about what muslims did to the women, past 23 years old she is to no use, not even a human anymore. 2. "there wasn't some sick quasi scientific rationale claiming that they were inferior humans being (in the islamic world)" no but there was a quasi religious 'prophet' that did allow muslims to treat non-muslims like they're not human, and in actuality the Europeans got their theory of race from islam, because islam says that it's the role of the descendants of Ham (sub-saharans) to do the dirty 'low-life' jobs, and when the fake-Christian Europeans wanted an excuse to practice slavery like the muslims that have been doing it for centuries, they just remixed islam's theory of race. 3. A slave in islam has rights AS LONG AS he is muslim, so basically he would be forced to convert to that religion in a way that no loving God would want, and of course if he converted he would be sent back to a sub-saharan country if he wasn't castrated before he converted because Arab muslims are the greatest race according to the quran and they didn't want to take the risk to mix their population's gens. And the slaves would get high ranked position as long as it's for the benefit of the Arab muslims, but if the non-Arab muslims became independent and only serve themselves (which happened multiple times) the Arab muslims would wage war against them. 4. Yes we do have more slaves today than centuries ago, and yes the USA and Europe is the primary target of sex-traffickers (because they are addicted to the looks of white children and women), but it's not the white westerners doing it, the ones that kidnap white western kids and women the most are muslims, the highest concentration of today's slaves are in muslims country, why? Because they are still doing what the have been doing for centuries which is using them as s ex slaves, even in the UK 96% of the people running under-age s ex trafficking rings are muslims. 5. Yes the western Christians force the muslims to stop their slave trade, the British force the Ottomans and all of west Africa to stop, with the help of the USA they forced the Moroccans to stop. 6. No the westerners didn't make slavery more brutal, it's the brutality of the muslims slavery system that was hidden for so long and every time that we discover the disgusting and horrific dirt under your rug you blame everyone but yourselves like cowards, satan must be proud of you. 7. Yes the USA of today that is run by jews is horrible, but you're still worse, what you muslims do in Dubai eclipse what is going on in the USA, what you do to the real slaves in Dubai is just the tip of the ice-burg of what you used to do in the past centuries, on average 3 slaves a day dies from starvation alone, not taking into account the other reasons they die (get murdered), and they will never see their families and loved ones again, and that's in the United Arab Emirates only, if you want to know how much more dirty muslims are to slaves look up what they are doing to them in Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Sudan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Eritrea, Somalia, Mali and ofc Saudi Arabia.

We abolished slavery and within 40 years 90% of blacks became literate, incredible. The Quran literally condones slavery and being able to have sex with your slaves. It’s evil and disgusting. People need to learn about the type of slavery that was present in the period of the 'Zanj Rebellion'. Brothers and Sisters hate talking about that particular type of slavery. They talk about it in a way that makes excuses rather than admitting it was a very barbaric and un-Islamic practise carried out by Muslims within the Abbasid Caliphate. This coward is a liar and a deceiver like his fake god, he pikes and chooses the history that makes him look good, all he said is easily debunked in the following: 1."as if anyone is the world have been as savage as you (westerners)" He says that when the muslims were cutting off their slaves pen!ses and left them to die once they got old or sick, in the west like you said they would take care of their slaves for financial reason (still no morally right), but muslim didn't spend a cent on their slaves, once he is to no use he is cast out, and let's not start talking about what muslims did to the women, past 23 years old she is to no use, not even a human anymore.

If that is beyond your means, fast for three days. That I’d the expiation for the oaths you have sworn. But keep to your oaths. Thus Allah makes clear to you His Signs, that you may be grateful.” Sura 4:19, “O you who believe! You are FORBIDDEN to inherit women against their will.” Bad people do whatever they will, even fake Muslims of His-story/history. Quran has strict guidelines, however. It was also acceptable to marry slave women -as they were considered by Allah to be “better” than any unbelieving woman-men had to treat the slave woman with the same rights they’d acknowledged to a regular woman, as Brother implied. Sura 90:12-15, “What will explain to you the path that is steep?-It is FREEING the bondman (slave); Or the giving of food in a day of privation to the orphan with claims of relationship, or to the indigent down in the dust…..” Prophet Muhammad’s saying, “”Those who do not give Mercy to others are not from us.”

Claim 1: Morality is subservient to power. False. There are countless historical accounts revealing that morality can lead to power. In Western slavery, moral apprehension slowly built the vehicles and economic systems to undermine and undo slavery. Claim 2: Renting was more economical than owning. False. Although typically in our modern world renting is always more expensive, this has everything to do with the cost of labor/goods/etc, not renting vs owning. In essence, Western sensibilities around the humanitarian requirements on conditions of slaves, made it less economically viable. But for thousands of years, nations traded back and forth depending on what was more economically efficient. Claim 3: North had no moral desire to end slavery, it was just a power play against the South. False. Abolition had been building support for a very long time in the North and South, and even had 33% favorability in the South until identity politics and the development of vehicles of propeganda in the South. What made timed abolition was mainly the Southern states ceceding. Them leaving the union allowed abolition little resistance and nullified any agreed-upon compromises. Claim 4: The point that abolition was just a mask for deregulated slavery. False. The idea that SOME people didn't improve in their experience after abolition doesn't mean the entire struggle was pointless, nor that no changes were made. In actuality, abolition was the first step in a long line of egalitarian advancements that the West had the courage to make. Problems still exist now, but we are only here because those steps were made. For context, choosing power over ethics, leads to evil the vast majority of the time. The speaker begins by relying on a foundational argument that power always supercedes morals, disqualifies any attempted criticism of efforts made to do good. To try is better than to never try at all. Claim 5: In Islam slaves were protoges, treated well, could be wealthy, and could buy their way out. Not sure where to begin with this. Accounts of savagery in slaveholders are universal. This is honestly just a cherry-picked argument. Muslim salves were brutally treated more often than not. The most extensive difference between the Western and Arabic slavery was in duration and practice. Western countries actually had a long history of non-practice of slavery, intermittent with areas that did. And indentured servitude was still historically the most common form of slavery, where the best conditions could apply, including legal rights and wealth. Chattel slavery was practiced during a very small window in Western history and bares similarities to instances all over the world, including in Arab portions it is not unique to America, as we have learned. Regardless, it's abolition still remains unique. Going to stop there. This is already too long. Peace be with you.

Like many arguments that start with "let's compare the west to Muslims" this man is a sophist and is basically providing a what about-ism of an argument to support his own ethnocentrism. While his point of debt and wage slavery as deregulation of slavery is well taken, his notion that the Middle East is somehow above this is laughable. One could make the comparison of western slaves being treated less humanely than the Middle East's "protégé slaves" from hundreds of years ago but that, like all bad faith arguments from Muslims, compares only ancient history or history from 150 to 200 years ago in the U.S. The modern city of Dubai wouldn't even exist without modern, inhumane slavery of exactly the type he describes as western. Nearly every laborer or barista in the land is an import from Egypt or Syria or other less fortunate neighboring countries. Bahrain's F1 track is a perfect example of egregious modern slavery perpetrated by modern Muslims. A land of royals too good to serve themselves needs exactly the kind of slavery that he described so well, as deregulated. Only it's even worse than that. In fact, I would argue the Chinese took better care of their Foxconn workers in Shenzhen. All examples of non-American countries utilizing an even more extreme version of western wage/ debt slavery, as described by this man. Seeing some educated Muslim man make bad faith arguments when comparing the west to Muslim culture is practically a meme at this point. Let us not forget that the last 20+ years of war in the region were kicked off as a DIRECT RESULT of educated, wealthy Muslim men deciding to act out their own twisted version of their religious and cultural beliefs in the form of a violent attack on U.S. soil. So virtuous. Pied pipers, all of them. So sad that many uneducated and ignorant Muslims flocked to men like that to give everything.

In fact, let's take this a step further. When I say "educated Muslim man" I feel I'm being FAR too generous. This man is a college drop out. Even Osama bin Laden had a more impressive background, both educationally and financially, than this turncoat. He barely speaks Arabic, and he's never been to Egypt - a country he keeps recommending violent protests to.

We can talk about Dubai and modern wealth dynamics that enact wage slavery in many cultures and parts of the world. Fair enough. But the religion is clear, even (and especially) if it’s not implemented well in governance. And please don’t ascribe 9/11 to Muslims without taking a really clear-eyed look at American barbarism in the Middle East.

And while we’re talking about Dubai, a touch of context on that system - I’m currently in Pakistan living with relatives. My brother in law, a Pakistani, spent over a decade working in Saudi Arabia in a system such as you criticize. His earnings supported his wife and four children in Pakistan - four amazing children, who got an outstanding education, and three of them are now fully practicing physicians, one working in the UK. The fourth is a wonderful mother of three beautiful sons. Those wages, however small compared to the wealth of those countries, made a tangible difference in the upward mobility of multiple generations, here. In the US, small wages disappear in the face of cost of living. But when there’s an exchange rate factor and cost of living difference, it can still be meaningfully beneficial - much like migrant workers in the US sending wages back home that support multiple generations of their family.

Citation needed on allot of what was said here. While the idea Islamic "slavery" benefited the poor in society is a nice idea, and that slaves supposedly had legal rights and recourse options to right wrongs, it's a definitive fact that black slaves were castrated to prevent males from procreating. Not saying that was the general normal during the entire time of the African or Barbary slave trades by Arabs ( I don't believe that Islam justifies, nor supports slavery), bit its a fact that that happened for hundreds of years. It's also said that the only way of acquiring slaves was through war, but its also a fact that the majority of Arab slaves were captured from raids against other countries and peoples that were not actively at war with Arabs, or Islam. Slavery has, and always will be oppressive, just as American/western capitalism is. It wasn't right in the past no matter the justification for either, and it's not morally right now. Morality evolves and gets better for societies as time goes on, cause that's the nature of time, progress and evolution. A case can be made to not judge the past by what is normal now, but what IS normal now is that slavery is wrong, no matter it's form.

True words, we never abolished slavery, no one did. They just stopped using the dictionary word. Imagine people living in debt because they could not pay it back to the banks with interest. Students with loans. Workers with no rights to leave the country without their master's permission and others who can't see their families for 3 years because their boss didn't feel like it. And finally those who aren't payed their salaries on time and they can't ask for it because they are second class citizens (poor country foreigners).

Were there EXCEPTIONS (like the ones spoken of here) concerning what slavery is/was in the Muslim world? Probably. But for me this sounds strikingly similar to Christian-splaining of slavery and how it "wasn't the same thing as we think of it today. Forcing people into servitude (by sword, deception, or economic cruelties) is something most human beings correctly understand as barbaric. "God" (especially of the Abrahamic faiths) is an argument FOR slavery and against human self determination. Human beings have a lot they need to do better in, but let's not continue to kid ourselves about some divine Being having our best interest at heart. This is how abusers spin their subjugation of others "for their own good " And I actually like a lot of what he has to say!

Wow, I’m never going to defend American slavery, but to put Muslim slavery on some moral high ground is a real stretch. One difference was that it was much more expensive to transport slaves from Africa to the Americas than it was from Africa to the Middle East. The cheaper slaves made it economic to just kill off the older slaves and replenish with younger ones. In the US the economic reality was that it was less expensive to let slaves raise their children into more slaves than to try and buy slaves, especially after English navy was directed to go after slave cargo ships. In all groups, Christian, Moslem, black, white… there were and are good and bad people. No group over an extended period of time can claim a moral high ground…

Excellent overview regarding the comparison between European slavery and Muslim slavery? Ward ship? I ask this because I’m still confused as to where the value exchange is for the “slave“ owner in Islam, and that of the “slave“ it seems from his description of Islamic “slavery“ that the so-called slave is enjoying unilateral benefits. As humans we understand things by definition, so I would like a clarification on these definitions, or perhaps the consideration of the removal of the word slavery when it comes to Islam.
