Today we spend a full day in Grand Teton National Park, hiking The Cascade Canyon Trail to Lake Solitude.
It is a 16 mile hike round trip so we get an early start around 6AM at the String Lake Trailhead. There is also an option to start from the Jenny Lake Trailhead and even a ferry from here that will take you across Jenny Lake. This cuts off 4 miles round trip on the hike but it costs $18 per person round trip or $10 one way. The first boat doesn’t leave until 7AM and we wanted to get started a bit earlier than this. The walk around the lake is also pretty flat and beautiful so we are happy with our decision to forgo the boat.
We hike around 1.5 miles around the north side of the lake until we reach the turn off for Cascade Canyon. We stop and have a quick break for breakfast before continuing on. We start making our way into Cascade Canyon and it is BEAUTIFUL. The trail follows in and out of the trees and each time it opens up, we are amazed at the mountain views around us.
We hike around 3.5 miles through the canyon and it is relatively flat and easy the whole way. At around 5 miles in, we reach the turn off to Lake Solitude. We have roughly 3 miles to go from here and while this is the steepest part of the trail, it is still very manageable and relatively easy.
Just when we thought it couldn't get any better, this last section of the trail definitely rivals Cascade Canyon. The mountains around us are absolutely breathtaking. The trail traverses over pretty rocky and rugged terrain as we make our way up to the lake. As the trail climbs higher the canyon narrows.
After around 4 hours and 8 miles of hiking, we make it to Lake Solitude. The lake is beautiful. We relax and enjoy the views, have some lunch and Myles even jumps in for a swim. The water is freezing (so I am told).. pretty sure it takes his breath away but he says it was worth it! :)
We hang out for around an hour or so before making the hike back. The way back through the canyon is just as beautiful with the Grand in full view. In total the hike takes us around 7 hours in total... with only really having 1 full day in the park, it was very tough to choose just ONE hike. I can honestly say I am SO happy with our choice! I don't see how it could get any better!

You cracked me up when you called it a long day. Remember the last time up we did the loop through paintbrush, started a bit late, I bit in to some edibles climbing up toward paintbrush and then took the best photo I have ever shot in my 63 years. It was the hair and the tortise with me and my brother, he got way ahead for a bit and then came back towards me, informed me the bears had taken over the trails for the evening. Moose blocking the trail, bushwack around em, drop the video camera, and have one of the best days of my years with a CD Walkman blasting Rod Stewart and such. So I found a tiny lithium flashlite in my daypack and hiked extra miles up string lake, hit camp at 1:30 AM, delightful fiasco.

Yayyy, so glad you enjoyed and thanks for subscribing!! We just started using a Fuji XT3 + a Rode Videomic Go (we used a Canon G7X for our first 100 videos lol). We also have a Mavic Air drone but sadly didn't/ couldn't use it in the National Park 😩😩... but we try to use it whenever it's allowed! ☺️

@@MetroOnTheMove Definitely will check it out! I see the video on your home page is from North Georgia. Is that where you are from?! We actually lived in Roswell but before we sold our house last year so still more or less call Atlanta "home"! ☺️

@@WaypointofView Awesome! Hope you find some new places to explore and film! Since you lived here, I am sure you explored quite a few places in the area. I actually live in Buckhead - Atlanta. However, most of my hikes are in North Georgia. However, there are some from the surround states and throughout the country.
