Thank you algorithms that showed me your lovely channel this morning. Really enjoyed this video. I am new to the world of art journaling. I have been watercoloring for about a year. Daniel Smith is my favorite but I am in the US, so I think it is a *bit* cheaper for me. W&N are also great. If you want to play around without breaking the bank, their Cotman line is nice. Have you tried PH Martin liquid watercolors? The intensity is awesome. Like any other art supply, they get addicting to buy 😂

I use Winsor Newman professional grade for most of my regular colors and then fill in with Daniel Smith for specialty colors. I don’t know how easy they are for you to get. They are both highly pigmented so go a long way. The WN comes in pans. I make my own DS pans.

One of my favourite items to use in art journaling is pastels (both stick and pan). They can be put on a page and gone over with gesso or water to make them unmovable, they can be mixed with gesso before brushing onto the page. One tip I would give is if you use something movable then simply use a brayer and brayer over the page with clear gesso or medium once you’ve used the movable item. Do not put the clear gesso directly on the page but pick it up evenly on the brayer then roll over the page. There might be some slight movement but it mostly works very well. 😊 I’ve found it great if I didn’t want my dylusion inks to move or seep through subsequent layers. T x

Does this apply to soft chalk pastels and oil pastels? Or only chalk ones?
@TartantazCreates
@TartantazCreates 2 жыл бұрын
@@danielalondongirl933 I have not tried it with oil pastels, though I am not sure I would want to try it with oil pastels. Gesso is acrylic and it is not advisable to put acrylic over oils, only oils over acrylic. As far as I am aware this works with all chalk pastels, though. I hope this helps T x

I don't know if someone gave you this tip already, sorry if you have, I'm just really sleepy right now and don't have energy to read. Anyway the tip is instead of using 2 jars with water to have one to replace the other when it's too full, I've noticed many that do water colouring that they too have 2 jars, one to clean the brush in and one to get clean water from. That way you don't have to get clean water as often :)

Daniel Smith are great watercolors but I donT use them in my journal. No need to use the best ($$$) there. White Nights are very pigmented and have full pans so you can use larger brushes, and White nights are economical. I save Daniel Smith for watercolor paper.
@anjakritzelkram5544
@anjakritzelkram5544 4 жыл бұрын
Professional watercolors are highly pigmented and a little goes a long way. My favourite brand is Schmincke Horadam as they use the same formula for their tubes and pans alike, are easy to work with and mix nicely and are easy to get for me as a german. Other professional brands will give a little different, but none the less a high quality experience. Daniel Smith offers a wide range of colors including ones made of minerals, I have some pans and tube sets. Qor is a nice brand as well. But when you don‘t use your artist grade acrylics but the dollar store ones in your journal you may not want to invest in a professional watercolor brand just to not touch them. Prima Marketing paints are similar to Jane Davenport sets, also the brand Mungyo, here in Germany we have a brand called Jaxon which sells similar paints, they are manufactured in Korea. White Nights are a good deal here in Germany, they are artist grade, sometime a little opaque but nice to use. Many like Mijello for their vibrant colors, for me the experience was very similar like the White Nights but they might easier to find for you. A very nice high quality student grade paint are Van Gogh, they have some nice sets, including one with only pinks and purples.

I dont know if it's already mentioned in the comments, but you can get a daniel smith swatch sheet set for about $30 aud (i'm in melbourne and i got mine from a fine art supply store). They have the full colour range in little dots which actually last a suprisingly long time, and it helps you identify which colours are worth spending the big money to buy the whole tube. Definitely worth looking into, i love mine

Oh my gawd what a cutie! Meanwhile, can anyone tell me WHERE they get their beautiful patterned NAPKINS/SERVIETTES from? I only have my much loved Jane Davenport ones but my journal is in danger of turning into a Davenpeep fangirl scrapbook. Also, along the same lines, any suggestions for lovely printed VELLUM? I feel like this might be more specialised & limited to online from art stores. I have some on the way from Maremi’s Small Art but I already know I’m going to cry out for more in my sleep. As for watercolour suggestions, look up Lindsay the Frugal Crafter + Watercolour on YT. She will tell you everything you want to know & then some. But you’re right... Dan Smith is the crowd favourite. Great video, thank you for taking the time!

Black and white pens are very -versatile/handy/useful?? Mattify is a word yes and think glossiness was the word. Thanks for the useful supply tips for a true beginner like me! Which black pen can i write with over paint (micron pens got ruined from that) and to seal id need gesso or sealant..right? Collage acrylic, soft pastels. And are oil pastels notoriously hard to fix in a journal? Sorry for all the questions

Watercolors: I use a mix of sennelier, winsor and newton daniel smith and lukas and i love them all. Also i have been using tombow markers to watercolor with lately. Really fun. Honestly it is much cheaper to buy tubes and squeeze them into pans. The tubes last for years and refill your pans at least 5 times and loose pans are very cheap. I like irit landgraf for a watercolour youtuber. By the way i have found a dual tank water pot like you see in art supplies stores for only $6 at my local kmart. Bargain! I also am convinced our beloved uniball signos had a bad run a while back and i still get one, once in a while....

Just found your channel Alice. So nice to hear someone speak of things that have been common to me all my life. I see faces and animals and elementals in trees, rocks, and clouds. Dragons are regularly in the clouds here where I live. Animals are in the lava rocks at the ocean's edge. Love your story about your personal dragons assistance. Besides telling your personal dragon to help you, it is also important to address the person who is trying to put the shame, blame, or guilt on you. Tell them how their words make you feel and that they will need to find more loving ways to communicate with you. This behavior from others is not something we should tolerate more than once. I say, three strikes, and you are out! Thanks for the video. It was much enjoyed!✨️🧚‍♂️🌳

Excellent video! Thanks for all the information. I’m a newbie to the art journals tho luckily I have most of the supplies already. Lol. The only thing you didn’t mention & that I personally love are fountain pens & fountain pen inks. Your son is absolutely adorable. He made me miss my kids & my grandkids which is ironic bc that is who I am going to make the journals for. I subscribed to ur channel & I am looking forward to watching ur other videos. The only issue I had is that I am hearing impaired & didn’t always get the names of your supplies & could not read the names of them on the tools themselves. Thanks again for the information & sweetness overload at the end. It’s just wonderful that you are sharing ur creative talent with your son too. Peace & blessings.

Here’s my 2 cents about watercolor. From what I’ve read Daniel Smith are top notch as well as Schmincke. They are professional grade, that are light fast. That is, your work would not fade if hung on a wall. If your plan is to incorporate watercolor into your journals, you don’t need to invest in light fast paints. I am NOT a watercolor artist, but I’ve done a lot of research before selecting my paints. If you’re interested in learning about watercolor check out Lindsaythefrugalcrafter on KZbin. She’s awesome😀.

@sometimesiwander7146

A 30 minute show on national tv has 8 minutes of ads. Ads drive me a little nuts too, but I figure maybe the ads provide the income that helps feed her family & allows her to give us the free information. I remind myself of that every time another ad starts. It makes it much more palatable that way. Plus I am usually taking notes so it gives me a chance to catch up. Lol. I might start going one step forward & forwarding her videos to the arts & crafts stores I like to shop at so that hopefully they will sponsor her & the ads I will see in the future will be ones that are relevant to me & maybe offer a promo code I can use to purchase something fun for my crafting habit. In fact I intend to do exactly that right now. No time like the present. And as much as I hate how we as a society have turned into a never ending subscription universe I can see that youtube might be the one subscription I would get a lot of mileage out of & never having to see ads would be a blessing imo. Lol. Of course I am now on the wrong side of 50 so to me every second is precious so ads are probably more annoying to me than most ppl in general. Lol. Personally I blame the airline industry. They monetized it. Making us pay extra for something that should have been included with our ticket. Now we have to pay not to see ads. (Streaming services, Duolingo, youtube, etc) The world is upside down. Now we subscribe to things on a monthly basis until we die.
