City mapper was super helpful. I walked most places during my trip but the few times I did ride the metro it alerts you when you get to your stop which was helpful. Thanks for the suggestions.

I think your review on DC is amazing and one of the best! Please note Yelp is not honest and there is a lot of talk about how their sales team bully small companies and manipulate reviews based on if they advertise. I do not use or recommend Yelp anymore. Google and others seem fine :D

Thanks for this! I’m downloading the apps I don’t already have so I can use them when I come to DC. I use Yelp a ton in my hometown...I’ve found tons of awesome places to eat that I would have no idea about if I didn’t use it. My hubby and I found some awesome places in Hawaii to eat at using this app. It’s probably my most used app.

Sometimes apps temporarily disappear from the Google Play store (this happened with Smithsonian Mobile earlier this summer). It looks like NPS National Mall and TapIt are currently missing. Sorry about that!

i was wondering do you know anything that can help a wheelchair user get around DC? I plan to visit in the next 2 months and don't know how wheelchair accessible the city is.

Hi Jennifer. I've had visitors in wheelchairs on my monuments tour and never had any trouble getting around. Most of the major tourist sights are accessible, including the monuments and museums. On the National Mall, only the Jefferson and Lincoln memorials require the use of an elevator to get to the main rooms. Most hotels should have wheelchair accessible rooms available, and you can call to confirm if you aren't sure during the booking process. Metro was built starting in the late 60s with the goal of being fully accessible, however sometimes elevators are broken, so it's worth using an app like MetroHero to keep track of those things and plan accordingly. Lastly a good resource on wheelchair accessibility is from Destination DC (washington.org/node/2470). Please let me know if you have any other specific questions!

You'll find several if you search "DC Metro" in the Apple Store or Google Play Store. They all mostly do the same thing (tell you how long until the next train) but I like Metro Hero because it has the very useful live map.
