Hey, Jason your right! you got to love "Flatbed". got to have the fever. I spent 3 years with Melton, back in the 90s. I'm retired now. I've seen 60 year old drivers do flatbed. Melton is a great company to work for. loved every minute. Keep your head up Jason...remember the back row of the truck stop is for Flatbeders! We don't mind the walk.

I love those self talks about “why the F am I doing this when I can have a more cushion job”. When your uncomfortable in that situation, that’s how you know that’s where you belong. Keeps you on your toes. We all know how life is and when life gets you uncomfortable, it ain’t nothing more than “F that wind, this load is getting trapped” and that’s how you attack life. Stay hard amigo. That mentality earned a sub from this guy.

I say the same thing; If you just got your CDL I recommend you drive a trailer box truck first , just to gain experience driving a truck . Give it a year then you can do flatbed .

I did it for seven. Would only go back if you got a handful of shipper blackouts or able to refuse earned a year. It was returning to a shipper you had a negative experience with that was defeating. Wheter it eats tarps, eats time, loads over 46,000…. Pits your paycheck for the week at risk with a snafu, short haul, odd hour shipper, etc. I felt like I would get about 6-8 a year out of over 120 loads per. Year. That being said i noticed they have a method. If you have a shorter run it may be so your weekend load is the redemption for the paycheck you want. They got me by allowing dogs. That dog got them 750k miles. She saved me from having the worst days out hit as hard., and kept me chugging along. Loved working there. No regrets, it was just time to get home.

Throw a couple 1 inch straps after Tarping. Not even a tornado can rip off that tarp. Works Everytime. Plus you use less bungees

I agree with you. I just ran some numbers and I need to average $2 a mile just to break even. My thoughts are this, save your money when you’re up so you can protect yourself when you’re down. The rates and fuel prices WILL get back to normal where we can all be profitable. Stay safe out there!
